It may not be a scope, but if your also looking for a great red dot sight you should look into the Bushnell TRS 25
I got mine for $80 and its amazing for the price!
Give them nothing. But take from them, everything

Try the Centerpoint scopes sold at Walmart. There's a 4 X 16 illuminated red/green reticle going for $80. Got one sitting on my Mosin. Cheap scope for a cheap rifle being shot by an even cheaper owner.

Depends on how bare bones you're willing to go. I'd put at least $200 into an AR-15 scope but any plinker scope on a 22 is fine

Does a good scope for under $100 exist?  No, they do not.  For under $100, you can get a crappy scope, a garbage scope, a passable scope, a surprisingly-good-for-the-money scope, or a few other variations, but there aren't any *good* scopes for under $100.

I agree that a good scope for under $100 does not exist.  As mentioned one persons definition of a "good scope" might be different than some one else.  And no I am not a scope snob, but I certainly don't like crap either.   :)

I would suggest saving to purchase a quality scope at the onset, rather than rushing out and buying a cheap scope.

Inevitably, you'll end up realizing that want to upgrade to a higher quality scope.

In the end, you'll have ended up spending money on the cheap scope PLUS spending money on the upgrade (quality scope).

Buy once, cry once.

Just my $0.02

I agree. When I first started getting into shooting, I spent money on scopes that "looked" like they could perform. I realized that I wasted more money in compromising instead of being patient and saving my $ for something that performed.  I can speak from experience that lifetime warranties don't mean anything if you keep sending the damn scope back. Think about it. A loose lens and/or prism and you have to take the scope out of the rings, and re-zero the new or repaired scope. Quality and solid engineering isn't cheap. While, things aren't perfect, I expect a less chance of something going wrong with a proven, reliable scope. The holy grail is a cheap scope that can take the punishment and retain zero. There are lot of cheap scopes that look like a Leupold, Nightforce, Aimpoint, EOTech or Trijicon ACOG but they sure don't perform like they are.  It's a harsh reality but it takes time and good resources to make a good scope and that unfortunately in this current state of technology and manufacturing processes, does not equate to less than $100. There are even iron sights that cost more than a good Leupold or Nightforce. Why? http://www.warner-tool.com/sights.htm
In an analogy, are there abortions under $100? Sure!

+1     Good scope and under $100 usually don't coexist.  Most times under $300 either

+2, with one caveat - you can get away with a cheaper scope for a .22 rifle such as a Simmons 4-12X44 44 Mag scope ~$100, but I wouldn't use it on my AR.

The thing to understand about scopes is that yes, pretty much any old optic will have you shooting better groups than with irons.  But when you start comparing scopes side by side, the differences become pretty obvious.  Look through a Tasco and then through a Trijicon and you'll immediately see the difference.  High dollar scopes have better light transmission, more clarity across the field of view, etc.  So there's that.  But then there's other considerations, too; ones that aren't obvious when just looking at the far wall of the store.  For example, my Leupold VX-R Patrol is a hell of a nice scope, and I'll wager that the glass is every bit as good as a Trijicon costing three times more.  So why the devil would anyone pay $1200 for the ACOG?  Well, because when you fall the last thirty feet off of a fast rope, crash through a roof, and cushion your fall with your rifle, the Trijicon will still be good to go, while the Leupold will most likely be a useless mess.  That's not a concern for me, so I'm fine with the Leupold.

There's other things, too, one of the biggest being repeatability.  If you shell out the greenbacks for a quality scope, the click values are absolutely right, every time.  If you click up twenty-five clicks and then back down twenty-five, you'll be right where you started.  Although this seems like a no-brainer, not all scopes can do it.  One of the tests that guys put scopes through for review purposes is called "shooting the box", where you shoot zero, then click up say ten clicks and right ten.  Shoot another group.  Down twenty and shoot another group.  Left twenty and repeat, up twenty, repeat, and finally left ten and down ten, which on a good scope will have you shooting right back at zero with the other four groups being right where they should be.  Cheap scopes won't do that very well at all.

All that said, if you don't care much about accuracy, shoot mostly milsurp ammo and have never bothered to look up any kind of ballistic table, you may be perfectly happy with a sub-$100 scope.
