« on: November 08, 2010, 04:32:05 AM »
In a previous discussion, I stated that even if Cleared of charges, the record still exists and can come back to Trouble a person,

well, here's great example:  http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/crime/bs-md-hermann-gun-challenge-ross-20101106,0,7066356.story

the guy was cleared by the Supreme Court, records to be expunged or so he thought........

I wish I could apply for a CCW for Hawaii, unfortunately I'm not a resident.  I live in New Mexico.  Not having a permit is one of the main reasons I probably won't be visiting the island anymore and spending my tourist dollars.  Hopefully things will change.

Well, hopefully we'll be able to change things here and make CCW an option for residents. Once that happens, then reciprocity could potentially be set up...which would be a really great step forward and would convince others like yourself who have reservations about going to an unfamiliar location without any means of self defense.

I don't remember any residency requirements.... If you can show me please let me know.

Hawaii Revised Statute: http://www.capitol.hawaii.gov/hrscurrent/Vol03_Ch0121-0200D/HRS0134/HRS_0134-0009.htm

No where on there does it list a resident requirement.

Alex, that is somewhat good news, however, it appears that one must apply in person and also that the permit is only good for one year.  That would, unfortunately, preclude many on the mainland from even attempting to apply.  Personally, I would apply even given the one year renewal if that stipulation were amended to allow, like Florida and Utah, to allow one to apply from ones home state.
