Where to buy "BOB" and "PREPAREDNESS" supplies on island or oniline?? (Read 12638 times)

Pizzo

So, I'm re-doing and re-amping my BOB's and personal preparedness kits and realized I'm missing some items and some of my stuff is old and/or out dated.

Which brings me to the topic......where can I go on island to buy good gear, medical supplies, military surplus etc??

Also, what are some good online sites that I can buy from??

Any input/info would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. If this topic has already been covered, I apologize,  please direct me to the thread....mahalo!!  :shaka:

Thanx Macsak, I appreciate the info!!  :shaka:

I've been to the surplus shop at 99 but never been to Be Ready Hawaii....gonna have to check them out! Ya, some of the safety supplies retailers on island can be pretty expensive!

macsak

be ready hawaii is a cool shop, and they have some stuff not readily available on oahu
but you should compare to amazon before buying
it can be expensive at the shop, but if you ordered off the 'net, you gotta pay shipping (unless on available on amazon)

it's past waipio costco in an industrial park near an offroad truck/jeep place

Dave can also order some nice packs to carry your stuff.  I've got an Eberlestock backpack from him.

With regards to milsurplus..........ain't cheap anymore, at least not on Oahu.  IMHO they are just too overpriced.

The place in Kunia, damn I wish I remember their name, but it's just not coming to me.  :(

Are you thinking of the Camoflage Shop in Wahiawa?

x2 on the pricing at the shops. Anyone looking for specific items should avoid them and search CL or garage sales. Service members PCS/ETS'ing are always trying to save on moving cost by dumping their extra gear. You can get some really good deals, but I'll add one caveat...just be careful of anything with a serial number (or that's defaced/missing a SN).

Ya, shoot me the info...I get some pretty good bags but it never hurts to have one more..lol!  ;D
"just be careful of anything with a serial number (or that's defaced/missing a SN)."
What's the reason behind looking out for SN's or defaced SN's? Does having a serial number mean it was issued to a certain person and should've been returned after use....or does that mean it's for military use only and not for civilian use?? ???

Depends what it is...some items are considered sensitive. Military bags are not one of those items. Most sensitive items would be hand receipted from supply to someone else. If that item was lost, then the responsibility would fall back on the individual who was signed for it.

Thought that'd be self explanatory...
All serialized items are accountable and anything purchased by the military under contract is government property. It doesn't matter if it's a controlled/sensitive item, it belongs to the government until it has gone through the process and released as surplus or otherwise disposed.

It was self explanatory. I was just looking for clarification as to why it would be something "to look out for" and you've answered that question....thank you. :shaka:

The whole "government property" bit makes perfect sense to me and so far I have yet to run into military items with serial numbers. The only thing I would love to get my hands on, that I can't,  is a military issue full/intact medics bag.....those are GREAT!!

i got my IFAK from chinook medical
seemed to be really complete, and they have a great advisory staff, so i hope they know what they are packaging/selling
not sure if it's the cheapest or the lowest shipping, but that's who i chose

I figured you knew what I meant, but wanted to clarify because there are a lot of people out there who believe "surplus" means everything military thats sold to civilians. But it's really supposed to be items that have gone through DRMO (or deemed not serviceable at the supply level/CIF). As for serial numbered items, the estimate is that 80-90% (mostly armor related items) of what's out there was reported lost/stolen.

You're looking for a medics bag?  Do you mean the combat medic kit or IFAK? A complete combat medic kit (as issued) is impossible to find complete. It's $400-600 worth and I don't know of any medic or corpsman willing to take a hit for that. But IFAK's on the other hand are easy to find...I think I have a couple in a bin somewhere.

Ya, I would LOVE to get my hands on an actual Combat Medic Kit but realize that I will have to settle with IFAK's and similar kits.

Colt808, do you have an extra laying around that you wouldn't mind parting with??

I was planning to pull my bins out of storage this weekend anyway (my kids want stuff to put on eBay).  With 12 deployments over the last 24 years, I've accumulated a lot of crap...so let me if you're looking for other things.
