here's a pic of my 2 GP100's loaded with Winchester PDX1 defender 125 grain ammo
sad to say that the blued one is now enjoying life with my nephew bc he is now the proud owner of it.  but I still have the stainless one which was made in 1993 and still looks like new and works flawlessly
these 6" barreled GP100's are one of my favorite revolvers to shoot.  they are built like a tank!

Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum
big revolver, big Hogue bantam grips
great platform for shooting the .44 magnum caliber
shooting factory .44mag 240 grains isn't that bad at all with this revolver

trigger is heavy and long pull in double action mode, but it is very smooth
shot 100 rounds out of it this past weekend
usually I don't shoot that much 44mag at 1 time, but the feel of this revolver is very comfortable shooting
the Hogue bantam grips are pretty big, but not overly big.  feels like I can get more of my hands on the grips so its easier to control vs smaller wood grips.  although I do like the looks of wood grips.
its hard to decide which 44mag is my favorite between this one, my super blackhawk, or my vaquero.  they're all good in different ways.
but this redhawk compared to my other revolvers seems to handle hotter loads better.  I think the grips make for much of the ability to handle the hot loads.

That's badass!

Is that a 4" barrel?

When I was looking for a .357 Mag revolver, I initially was looking for a 4" barrel.  Then the 686 Plus 6" was in stock and I picked it up.  After shooting it, I really like the 6" barrel.  The weight really helps balance the gun out.  Not that .357 Mag is super hot, but I can imagine that for .44 Mag it would help even more.

Stang you got some great revolvers there!!!

I have the Hogue Tamer Grips on my Super Redhawk. They do help a lot! Especially if I get the nerve up to shoot some 454 Casull out of it  :shake: :shake: :shake:

its a 5.5" barrel.  this is the longest barrel of my 44's.  I would've liked to get a 6", but with the redhawk it was either 5.5 or 7.5 that I would like, so I went with 5.5
my super Blackhawk is 4.6", and vaquero is 3.75" with birdshead grip which is a challenge to hold on to

thanks.  as soon as the .44mag gets boring, maybe i'll up my game to a 454.   :shaka:

I load 45 LC rounds with a 250gr SWC over 5.6 grains of Titegroup. I can hit just about any target on the silhouette range out to 100 yards with it if I do my part. It's fun to shoot all day with those loads.

I have nicknamed the gun "Thumper". There are a few male members on this board (they will remain nameless for now) which are terrified of Thumper. And when Zippz had a Meetup at the silhouette side, a nice young lady came up and I invited her to shoot Thumper. And she did. With hot 300gr SWC over 21.5gr of H110 and the 454 Casull commercial loads. Put the guys to SHAME!!!

Nice!

If I were to get a .44 Mag revolver, I would want something around a 6" barrel.  I think the heft of the Ruger revolvers would be a good combination for the .44 Mag loads.

I changed the old wood grips on my Security Six to some Hogue monogrips
feels good in the hand. the Hogue gives me more to hold on to.  feels like I can control it better
we'll see how it shoots

old school vs new school with my LCR

since I was on ebay and ordered those security six grips, I ordered a hiviz fiber optic front sight for my GP100
installation was easy
theres a spring loaded latch that I just press with a punch and lift out the old sight, the new one goes in just as easily.  took less than 5 minutes
here it is before and after the install
these pics kind of suck.  with the auto focus on the phone, its hard to get the front and rear sight in focus at the same time.  I'll get better pics later.

I like my Speed Six. It is quite heavy, though. It is stainless and in 9mm:

This thread is making me want to bust out the 686+ and a like 200-300 of .38 SPL and hit the silhouette range this weekend.

I was just at the silhouette range on Sunday. I brought Thumper (Ruger Super Redhawk in 454 Casull) with some reduced .45 Colt hand loads tuned for 100 yards and my High Standard .22 convertible revolver and shot both .22 LR and .22 Magnum. Went through about 350 rounds (100 rounds of .45 and 250 of .22). Good fun!!!

I plan to go this Saturday.
test out my 3.75" barrel birdshead .357 with some .38sp and some light .357 reloads
I got some 158 and 130 grain 38's, and the .357 reloads are 158 grain that I estimate around 1000fps.  (I don't have a chronograph, only my palm-chrono)   :shaka:

shot my Vaquero .44 magnum for the second time this past weekend
first time was with factory ammo, and was too much for this small gun and small grip
so I dialed it down a couple grains on my reloads and much better now
accuracy was pretty good considering the u-notch rear sight and blade front sight.  much better accuracy than my Vaquero .357.  the 357 front sight is taller for some reason, making the POI lower.  I'm going to have to fix that sooner or later.
but back to the .44mag.  with the lighter load its much more enjoyable to shoot, easily hitting the steel targets at 50m.  that's all I expect out of this gun, its not a target or hunting revolver, just a nice looking SA with decent accuracy.
shot all 50 rounds of my reloads, and my hand was no worse for wear.   :geekdanc:

comparing my SBH to the Vaquero.  SBH is 4.6" barrel, Vaquero is 3.75" barrel.  you can see SBH frame and top strap is more beefy

I have heard that if you write Ruger and let them know about your SBH printing (insert number)" low, they will send you the appropriate lower front site blade. It looks like it is only held in place by a roll pin. So easy to change out.
