our good ole friend the Yankee Marshall again
I would love to have that Korth, or the 357 Korth, or any Korth
I would prefer the 357 but I would take any Korth, too. I think I like the 6” model in the video over the 4”. [drool]

Gotta love his ammunition storage and categorization skills.  :shake:
Bet if you asked him for .38/.45 Clerke, he'd turn around, move a couple boxes and pull out a round.

Once again Ruger is treated like an orphaned stepchild.

Thanks for the vid. I think he did a good job with it. It really comes down to personal taste.

The comparisons were helpful, but it requires trigger time to know which one you'll decide on.

I like my 6" 686.  For me, a .357 with a 4" barrel helps when carrying, but the longer barrel is my preferred configuration with magnum loads.  Much more controllable IMHO.

If you only practice with .38 Special, any barrel length is fine.  But for magnum ammo, give me the longer barrel.

My first handgun was a Charter Arms .357 with a 2.5" barrel.  I could shoot 5 rounds of .357 and still be able to grip it as I needed to.  .38 +P was my HD load when stored at the house.

Size really does matter.

I have 357's in 2 inch, 3, 4, and 6 inch barrels. The 6 inch GP100 I shoot more accurately. It's my test mule for reloads. The weight and Altamont rubber grip makes it comfortable to shoot heavy loads. The 2 inch S&W 627 PC and 3 inch GP100 WC I would carry OWB if I could, where owb would be appropriate. The 4 inch would make a good owb for a trail gun or farm gun. I dont really have a favorite. Each one serves a different purpose

Very nice! Congratulations!!!

Thanks inspector. It's like having Christmas gifts in a glass box that you can't touch, and it's right there! My appointment to aquire is Nov 6. I was fortunate to get even that. I scored that couple months ago too.

Lucked out on the Ruger redhawk revolver, my first one. It might feel discriminated against though, in the safe with all the Smith revo's. Going to have to remedy that when I can.

I almost passed on it as I thought it was a new model. 8 shot. The fiber optics sights fooled me. The new models come with those. But I decided to handle it, I opened the cylinder and "lo and behold" it was a six shot. It's an old model in 357 only manufactured for two years 1984-1986. Only 5,000 made with 7.5" barrel. Rare bird and to find one in the islands.

Most excited about the model 13 though. I was looking for a birthyear gun and was fortunate to find one I wanted in such excellent condition though I paid too much. If it wasn't a birthyear, and in excellent condition gun I would have passed.

My S&W’s have to play nice with my Rugers as one of them is a Super Redhawk in 454 Casull. It intimidates all the others and protects it’s little brother.

After you get your Redhawk I suggest you research it as if it is truly one of the older ones there may be a problem with it. I recommend you contact Ruger with your serial number. I am saying this from memory so I could have some details wrong. The original Redhawks had frame or barrel cracking issues right at the point where the barrel attaches to the frame. Ruger originally could not figure out the cause and thought it could be a design issue which is what caused the Super Redhawk to be designed/built. That is why the Super Redhawk has the built up area where the barrel attaches. What they found out after several years is the thread lube they used on the barrels would dry out and expand under certain conditions and crack the frame or barrel.

Fortunately, the fix is easy and inexpensive if Ruger won’t check it out under warranty.

I looked for the dreaded cracking as it was local.  All good. I knew of the potential problem before hand. Do you know of anyway to figure out if my gun had the suspect lube? couldn't find serial # rannge anywhre. And is there is a remedy if it was, and nothing happened yet? Or should I just shoot the shit out of it it ain't broke yet  :geekdanc: lol

At the very least I would write Ruger and ask them. There used to be a website that had the serial number range but it has been taken over by hackers. At the worst you could take it to a gunsmith and ask them to remove the barrel and the old lube and reinstall the barrel with good anti-seize. It should not cost that much as I imagine it would take no more than an hour.

Great find!!!

...there was a run of this back in the 1980s when we first started making stainless magnums. Ruger had a few dozen guns
come back when I was there. All were traced to one guy on night shift who was over-torquing barrels on Redhawks which
didn't quite line up, instead of taking a pass off the front of the frame on a Blanchard grinder as he should have done. He
also used a wrong, slippery high sulphur thread lubricant intended for chrome-moly instead of the specific anti-seize compound
used with SS.

This condition is aggravated by tight fit of barrel threads, such as when using a class 3A, combined with high stress, high
temperature, and high barrel torque. Ruger fixed their problem by changing to a looser 2A fit on the barrel threads and
assembling barrels to the frames using a Loctite product to cement them solidly while reducing stress on the threads and
positively preventing any seepage of cleaning solvents into the barrel threads after they left the factory.

https://www.thehighroad.org/index.php?threads/ruger-redhawk-barrel-failures.224251/

Based on that, just having a specific serial number range might not be good enough.  They would need a list of all serial numbers that one night shift guy worked on.

Contacting Ruger looks like the only good solution, especially since the issue affects pistols from the 1980s.  Yours might have already been repaired by Ruger before you bought it.  If so, they should have a record of it.

also, good info, Flap and link about the Redhawk's issues.
good thing its the older Redhawks from the 80's.  mine is maybe 5-6 years old so it should be good
