That is crazy bruh...

My Commander wouldn't give me a memo because the M9 isn't my primary weapon...even though (like you) I spent my fair share of time as a RSO. I had to take the class...

I  heard of this happening to prior service members, but not active duty...

In other words you're not special. You have to do the course like everyone else so stop whining.

The issues with not currently being in the military and therefore a letter from your commanding officer regarding your prior handgun training aside, there's more to the handgun safety course than familiarity with the safe handling and operation of firearms. The HRS requirement also includes instruction to become familiar with the State of Hawaii laws regarding legality of specific firearms, transportation requirements, use of deadly force, etc.  The course also covers safe handling of various types of handguns, like revolvers, and goes beyond the experience that even someone who possesses a mastery of the M9 would have.

Just some things to keep in mind. Not saying that your frustration isn't warranted, just saying that there are other things to consider. In the end, there are specific laws in effect and just have to live by them until they are changed.

How is it that you are always the one sour patch kid in every discussion?

I'm the one pointing out the common sense things. DUH!!! The safety course covers the Hawaii Revised Satutes and its application to the 2nd amendment. Just because you are a MP does not mean you are exempt. From what I have learned in my 18 years in the military is that MP's aren't exactly the sharpest spoons in the drawer.

Happened to me too. The upside was taking a course made me realize i need to keep working on my pistol work even with all my years as an MP.

First, don't ever disrespect me for what I did as an MP. You have no idea of my training background and/or experience(s), so regardless of what your opinion of what MPs do, keep it to yourself when referring to me.

Second, If you don't like the subject matter, the questions being asked, or the rants being raved, then simply pass on by and keep your negative nancy comments to yourself. Your continuous illogical input on irrelevant topics do nothing to help clarify or justify the subjects being discussed, and serves only to piss people off.

always people out there trying to prove something.......to be honest Q i have learned more firearm safety in the military than i did taking the handgun safety course....i understand where your coming from & i think they should have certain waivers for applicants with justifiable work experiences and backgrounds

The only thing i learned from the handgun course was how many people SEVERELY needed that course (including a military guy how couldnt rack the glock at first.  not naming a branch).

I thought it was a waste of time, other than being able to try a number of pistols i wouldnt have normally, but hey, everyone had to do it.

The reality is that not every person who serves and or served in the military is qualified to safely handle a firearm.

How many of us have seen some dumbass kid in the military doing stupid crap with a firearm?

Instead of getting in a pissing match with people, just take the hunters Ed or pistol class.

As sad as it is to say, it is what it is. No amount of complaining is going to change it.

i think its really funny sometimes how people on forums pages can just judge other people because of questions, comments, etc without even knowing their background or who they actually are.  and i most importantly hate the fact that some people talk more $%#^ on forums behind a computer screen.........

i agree with that, i have seen countless mistakes by soldiers that majority of civilians wouldnt even make or even think of doing, no matter where you are or what you do, there are always people out there that really shouldnt be dealing with firearms or anything dangerous for that matter, however the comments that some people make are a little over the edge and it needs to be addressed
