The reality is that not every person who serves and or served in the military is qualified to safely handle a firearm.

How many of us have seen some dumbass kid in the military doing stupid crap with a firearm?

Instead of getting in a pissing match with people, just take the hunters Ed or pistol class.

As sad as it is to say, it is what it is. No amount of complaining is going to change it.

Unfortunately, the same can be said of the  Hunter Ed class and any NRA class.  Just because someone takes the class doesn't mean they are safe to handle firearms.
It is what it is.

I was instructed not to touch the inserted mag of an M4/M16 or it would hella-jam. No dont even think about touching the mag while shooting! "Oh your rifle jammed you musta touched the mag"!!!
And another tip: taking a gulp before squeezing the trigger. Not sure if the soldier (who was SF & Ranger qual'd) was having fun with us.

First, don't ever disrespect me for what I did as an MP. You have no idea of my training background and/or experience(s), so regardless of what your opinion of what MPs do, keep it to yourself when referring to me.

Second, If you don't like the subject matter, the questions being asked, or the rants being raved, then simply pass on by and keep your negative nancy comments to yourself. Your continuous illogical input on irrelevant topics do nothing to help clarify or justify the subjects being discussed, and serves only to piss people off.

Haha. That's pretty funny... First.I never disrespected "you"!
Second... I could give 2 shits about what "you" did as an MP.
Third... You also have no idea of my training background also. It's likely way more advanced then you may think.
Fourth... Mission successful... I was trying to piss you off, because I'm tired of people complaining about how they should be exempt from this or exempt from that due to a "little" training in their past.

Fifth, and likely the most important... This is a forum! People express their thoughts so If you can't handle a little Criticism then maybe you should go watch you tube with your spare time.

I call BS. The only people exempt from the wait period is people with 24 hour carry and arrest powers.

So, that may also include Coast Guard.

Quote
The Coast Guard has law enforcement powers within U.S. waters, which extend 200 miles from shores, and on international waters. Coast Guard authority supersedes that of the U.S. Navy in terms of law enforcement -- a Coast guard captain can halt, board and even seize any vessel without a warrant, court order or direct orders from a superior, including U.S. Navy vessels.
When only cops have guns, it's called a "police state".

Well, um... you know they added MP's and various other police to the revision of the LEOSA? i.e. nationwide carry?

Unless it changed in the last month all MP's turn in their guns at the end of their shift. Ie: no 24 hour carry or 24 hour arrest powers.

Well first things - MP's don't lose or gain their arrest powers when they check in for a shift. That's not  how the military works.   I'm also not sure where you think that people need 24 hour carry, that's not a requirement under LEOSA.   Other positions would also qualify, like those on the Deserter Apprehension program.

There were substantial changes to the LEOSA - military police are now included in that act, so are DoD police and others. Calguns had a very informative breakdown discussion on it, which I don't feel like going to dig up, but you can feel free to go review the most recent changes to the act signed under this nears NDAA.

Military Police now have credentials 24/7 and are explicitly covered under LEOSA. This includes active duty and retired MP's, and even under certain circumstances medically retired ones as well.

They still need to meet the credential requirements (Shooting tests annually etc.) so I'm not sure how that would go together.  I think it's something the military has to look at now and will likely be required to provide some sort of support for.  It's all new, so there are certainly going to be some growing pains.  We will see though!  Hell, when I left they were still trying to figure out where to put badges and stuff on the new uniform lol.

It would be interesting to see how it develops and what the requirements are for being medically retired are under leosa because my DD214 is under a medical re code.

That's why I'm glad I brought my pistola's here.I would have to recert on the basic and judgmental pistol course just to get the letter to go buy a pistol here. A lot of guys I work with want to buy guns here, but they find the process "annoying" so they just wait till they Transfer. I try to explain it to them and its not that bad, but I do see the point of when I can go to the store buy a gun and be completely done in 20min on the mainland, well in some states.

Yes, not everyone in the military is an expert gun handler I've seen it many times and I myself have taken shortcuts, especially after a long night of chasing shadows.

As the way the laws are, it gives the HPD Chief discretion of permit issuance. If Chief wants you to dress up as an anime character then thats the way it is. If we trust the legislative process to make it easier and not pervertit, perhaps we need to lobbyour lawmakrsnext year. An across the board standard for handguns - oreliminate it. Just luke stupid car safety checks.
