Definitely illegal on public land to hunt after sundown.  I don't know what would apply on private land, need to research that, but my initial guess is no also.  Sorry it's been years since I took the Hunters Ed course.

Secondly, you'll need to take the Hunters Ed course.
http://hawaii.gov/dlnr/dofaw/hunting

That course will cover all the information you'll need to know.

FYI from the link I provided:
Quote
Hunting in Hawaii requires a hunting license whether you hunt on public or private land.
So you'll need the Hunters Ed course to get the license, or provide suitable alternative education.

Be careful, not all LEO's know/understand the applicable laws.  I'd ask him to sign a letter stating that the activity is legal per his training/understanding of the law.  He said/she said means nothing if you get arrested............better yet, I'd find the applicable law/HRS that applies.

Thanks for your caution but he's my cousin and it was back home on Molokai. Where the recheck Hawaiians come from . Yeah I would be more cautious if it was here on Oahu .

a letter would not help any more than he said/she said
always know the law

True, but it would help a bit.........plus he's LEO, might get some LEO courtesy and get a free pass and jade ring to the back of the head instead of getting arrested and charged.

I got couple loose goats that I saw  running the tree line 2 days ago and there tracks came close to my fence line, but I don't see any signs of them getting. But earlier today I got out of my vehicle and seen what appears to be a 2 half bread hog and some piglets jolting towards the mountain from my farm and it did a lot of  damage.

I already got 2 of my good close friend wanting to camp out and get some free meet and I'd be glad for you to join brother!

To be "legal", you will need a wildlife control permit from DLNR. This is not considered hunting, but nuisance animal control. The permit will be specific as to the target species, location and method of removal. Monthly reports must be submitted to DLNR on how many animals are removed and how they were disposed of.

According to DLNR Hawaii , No overnight hunting is permitted via public or private land. Also it is un-sportsman like; and very dangerous( how do you know if someone is not trespassing on the land{if private} and you take a shot not knowing what your target is. Trespassers / hikers do not know to were orange or to identify themselves with the property owner or caretaker. I would highly advise against shooting at night. I am not 100% sure if I am correct; check with local law enforcement before taking such actions. I know for a fact that hunting with any source of illumination is in violation of law. If you cannot identify what you are shooting do not shoot. Just my honest two cents....

I was a professional pest control dude. Traps, guns, poisons, nets, and barriers.
It's not about sportsmanship, but it was legal, permitted and recorded. Half the work was done at night to not disturb the patrons. Think about that the next time you eat out.

Actually its already well taking care of.... me, couple of my friends, and 2 officers camped out and took care of the situation... i didn't use illumination. i used my night vision equipment. Trespassers should not be on my property, so i have the right to defend my property! and theres no hikers up there especially at night except me. they were a nuisance to my organic garden so i had to take action.. We made sure that the animals was in the kill zone on my property so that i can control where the bullet end up .. and I would like to thank the PD officers that i shared the meat with for hauling and returning with some awesome smoke meat!!!

Teich, I always wanted to get into trapping, nets, barriers, and snares. thats like your last line of survival to getting food on the the table. and a more sneaky was to catch them.

ok, sorry I did not mean to step on any toes; but I have never heard of a wild life control permit. I know that if you are on private land that is totally enclosed then you can hunt/shoot anything on property as long as it is documented to keep track of species population. through all of my minor research it was determined that on Oahu which I live it is illegal to hunt at night!! therefore according to OP post you can use nightvision and thermal optics during normal hunting hours just not at night..Also can  You please shed light on the certain  circumstances and situations....... as I am not a DLNR or Departmant of Wildlife and Resources Officer

I had a friend that had a nuisance pig that did a lot of damage to his yard. He called the DLNR and they sent someone with a cage trap to catch the pig. But after several weeks went by without catching the pig, he asked me if I could catch the pig. Since it was on his land and with DLNR approval, I set up my own traps. Caught the pig in 2 days. Since the pig was also wrecking all the neighbors yards, DLNR instructed me to leave a copy of my hunting license with my friend. Just in case the neighbors called HPD. But if you have any more unwanted, PM me.  :shaka:
