Bro, honestly, if you only have 1 rifle and 3 handguns then by all means take them with you on the flight.

Remember to have them all unloaded.

Put them in a hard locking case ( like a pelican) with real locks on it. Not that TSA crap.

Get to the airport an additional 15 minutes earlier.

Remember to declare the firearms to the person at the counter checking in your bag.

They'll have you open the case to make sure they're unloaded, have you sign a little fluorescent orange card and stick the card in the case with the guns.

Make sure your name and phone number are clearly marked somewhere on the case in case someone needs to see in it after the fact. (That is highly unlikely)

This is the absolute easiest way to get your firearms to where you want to go.

You can even take up to 11 pounds of ammo with you in the same case if you'd like. As long as its in factory boxes (not loose)

You will be amazed at how easy and not complicated it is to travel with firearms.

I do it all the time.

I have all the original hard cases for each gun. They're not bad. The Sig rifle case is so-so, though. Do I need to put them all in one case? Or can I put the handguns in a checked bag and check the rifle separately? Apologize, I know you're not Hawaiian, but just in case you might know the answer ;)

check the airline's website, they may have a specific preference on how they want things. Most just say pack it in one of your checked bags, the rifle will probably have to be checked seperatly.

You don't have to have them all in one case, it just makes it easier to check in.

You're only opening one case instead of 4.

You'll also have to fill out individual firearms declaration cards for each case.

I would get a pelican case or a similar strong case to ship in.

Those stock rifle cases suck big time.

I've done some searching and it seems the Pelican 1700 is a "universal" rifle case, which is what I was looking for.  So that answers the rifle question.  My question remains for my pistols.  I have 3 and all 3 have their original "crush-proof" hard cases.  Now do I need to purchase an additional hard-sided bag to put them into?  Or can they go into, say a regular suitcase to be checked?  Just thought I'd throw it out there for those who have experience traveling with firearms.  Thanks guys!

I would just put the pistols in with the rifle in the pelican case and mail or ship the pistol hard cases to yourself.

You could just put the plastic pistol cases in with your luggage but definitely put all firearms together in the pelican case.

I only have one rifle and 3 handguns. But I'm not shipping household goods. I'm mailing everything via post office (so far). I don't want to go through the hassle of dealing with airports (but just might put up with it, Idk) and wanted to have the security of knowing an ffl was shipping my goods. Which is why I asked. I still don't really know which avenue I will be taking in regard to how I should ship them and if I should even worry about shipping ammo...-_-

But I do appreciate the replies and help offered!

Last time I moved from Hawaii, I picked up my truck at the Long Beach port, so I had a overnight stay in Cali.  Because of this, I shipped all my ARs in one large case to myself at the Lake Havasu, AZ post office and picked them up when I got in town.  Came out to $300 or so, but better than dealing with California laws.

This is my favorite.
Probably the most durable case I've ever used.

Looking at the other cases I guess I went relatively cheap.  Had this case since 2006 and it has been interisland with Hawaiian, Go, and Mokulele.  And 4 trips on American and United to Texas and Michigan.  All trips with two scoped long guns, boxed ammo, and hunting knives.  No oversize or overweight charges.

Does the foam come pre cut like the picture shows? Or do you cut it yourself?

Btw, thanks again, everyone for the help!

I had to cut it myself

It's better that way because you can arrange it any way you like it

Lol, I was going to say....would be difficult to fit an AR into a conventional rifle cut out.  I think I'm going to go with that one.  Thanks for the recommendation!
