not all high end 1911's are good shooters
seems like more than a break in issue

I’ve been waiting for the Dan Wesson DWX.  Looks like it will be available in 2023

Never warmed up to the newer versions of the 1911.....

The standard 1911 by WC or Les Baer never gave me problems like this.............

The LBs that I have, I recall that 2 or 3 of them had that "failure to return to battery" issue in the first 100 rounds or so, due to the LB being so damn tight.
The problem disappeared and never returned.

I have a Springfield RO Elite target that had same issue in the first 150-200 rounds maybe 1 out of 20 rounds where it just slightly would not go fully into battery but after that the issue went away. The slide to frame was very tight at first

Asking 2aHawaii readers about bluing:  What would you do if your gun bluing starts turning into a plum color?

My Wilson Combat Supergrade 45 was made in October 2015.  Looking at the original pictures some 7 years ago, it was a deluxe Baron bluing BLUE.

I noticed a tinge of plum color a couple of years ago, but didn't think much of it.  A recent photo that I took with my phone in the sunlight
shows me that the plum color has gotten deeper.........

It seems that the temperature of the bluing salts make it turn plum color, from what I've read on the internet.....

See the first picture and the recent picture.

I'm on the fence on whether to send it  to Wilson Combat for re-bluing..... don't know if they would re-do it at no charge or maybe I'll have to pay the full price......

If I do send it back, I want the front portion of the slide with the carry cuts and ball endmill cuts polished and also deluxe-blued; right now it's matte bead-blasted....

What would you do?  Keep it as is?    Send it back?

You have to do what makes you happy/satisfied, especially with a gun of that value.  Seems like it's bothering you, so I would at least contact WC to see what options are, even if you have to pay some $$$ to address.

Personally, I would just shoot it and enjoy it.  Including any wear the guns shows through use.  That said, I don't own a high dollar pistol like that, though I wanted one for a long time.

What would I do?

I would focus on the front sight instead of the color of the slide.
What, Me Worry?

drck1000, yes, it seems to be bothering me which is why I was thinking of having it reblued......
however, you would just shoot it, no?............

Even oldfart says worry about the front sight instead of the color of the slide............

I'll just let it go for now and not let it bother me.........

I guess there's no Kokohead to go to nowadays, so I'm just cleaning & re-cleaning my guns for lack of a better thing to do...........
nitpicking every little thing on my guns.....

This WC shoots real tight when it came to me.  I don't want to have the slide re-blued which might disturb the fit of the slide to the frame and ruin the "harmonics".

If and when it shoots loose, or needs some sort of tuning, I'll send the whole pistol back and then
raise the issue of the plum-color slide, and see what they say.

Would I shoot it?  Totally!  I don't have much .45 acp ammo, but if you gave me that pistol, I'd shoot the heck out of it.  It's what it wants to do, be a sweet shooting pistol!  ;D

From what you said above, I would at least contact W/C and see what can be done.  Maybe they'll say send it back and they'll redo it.  Being satisfied, completely satisfied with anything you own is very important.  For me, finish of a pistol isn't something that I care about.  I mean I don't abuse my firearms, but primary enjoyment I get is from shooting them.  I do very much understand some firearms are meant to be admired and shown off.

Some people would pay extra to have a plum colored gun.
If you told people that you paid Wilson an extra $100 for the "deluxe plum finish option", they would believe you.

 :D    You probably right !

After I started this topic, I asked Steve Boelter in Las Vegas about sending the slide back to WC......  he said

"Would you be satisfied if WC reblued the slide beautifully, but somehow the pistol didn't shoot as well as the plum slide?
Why would you jeopardize the pistol's accuracy to change the slide's color?  The WC gunsmiths got everything to work
perfectly and now you want to disturb the harmonics of their work?"

I have to agree with drck1000, oldfart and Steve that they are correct............

to reblue theyd probably have to subject the slide to sand blasting - a destructive process

I finally got around to taking pics of these:

1968 vintage 50 year anniversary of WWI--this is the 2nd Battle of the Marne model.  Grips are French Holly.  Royal blue finish from the 60's--beats the pants off of 70's-80's vintage Pythons.

My WWI Colt 01911 reproductions, made in 2004 and 2006.  Both are carbonia blued. There are slight differences between the 2 if you know what you're looking at:
