hpd now takes your photo for long gun permit?
« on: January 14, 2011, 08:08:03 AM »
My gf applied for a long gun permit. She said the officer who finger printed her said she has to take a photo when she returns to pick up the permit. Ive never heard of this. Is this something new for 2011?

No, I took one for my FIRST long gun permit.  To renew after that, didn't need to.  I remember taking the picture b/c they put a small pic of my face on the top of the permit.  My first permit was a few years ago.

I've had a new photo taken every time I renew.

I can't remember ever taking a photo. I remember getting fingerprinted like a criminal. Don't remember a mugshot.

let us look to the statute!  -- legal reader deploy!!!

--- will get through this tonight, currently producing a nice little OIP document.

(b)  The permit application form shall include the applicant's name, address, sex, height, weight, date of birth, place of birth, country of citizenship, social security number, alien or admission number, and information regarding the applicant's mental health history and shall require the fingerprinting and photographing of the applicant by the police department of the county of registration; provided that where fingerprints and photograph are already on file with the department, these may be waived.

So reading that, they can waive them, not sure who decides that. They must take them, i.e., by the police department of the county of registration.

got photoed the first time.  havent on subsequent long or pistol permits.  also,  ive never given any medical or physician information, which seems to be the norm from what ive read about Oahu.

Your only required to give it, if you have it.  If you don't have a medical doctor -- there is nothing to give!  Which is why the whole thing is stupid.  The state can't make someone get a doctor to say they are good, nor do they have the funds or services to prove that someone indeed does have a doctor or an issue. The only way would be if a court ordered you somewhere for mental issues, would that stuff show up.

It's a "feel" good measure with no real meat or purpose. They can't say that specific provision of the law would have helped or stopped any crime, because they don't know if the guy would have told them he had a doctor, if a doctor even existed.

They took my picture the first time I bought a pistol out here back in the mid 90'S. Went back when I got back on the island and registered guns, they gave me my photo back. Never took another and haven't yet, even with a renew.

No logic here.
Relax, I've banned myself..

It has always annoyed me that they ask to see a photo ID when my permit to acquire has a photo on it.  And, for that matter, that I have to present my copy of the permit when they kept one for their files.

But then again, I should give up expecting bureaucracies or laws to be reasonable.
