Legal and Activism / Are we required to give first aide?
« on: May 05, 2012, 06:47:03 AM »
If someone entered your house and you shot them, do you need to give aid? I know you shoot to stop the threat but I'm not the greatest shot, if you get what I'm saying.

Preparedness and Survival / New survival kind store
« on: December 25, 2011, 08:34:11 AM »
Last week i was cruising around windward mall and came across a new store called soul trex.  Apparently they been open for about 6-8 months and sell equipment geared to the outdoor individual.  They sell backpacking bags, fire tools, filtration gear, food rations, rock climbing stuff.  Pretty neat store.  If any of you are in the area go check it out.  The owner is a lady from waimanalo, talked with her for a bit, really cool lady that knows her stuff.  Im hoping that they will start to bring in more gear and offer more of a variety of stuff.
Heres a link to their website.

Reloading / reloading supplies
« on: December 13, 2011, 09:21:47 AM »
Looking to pick up reloading supplies soon.  Still in the research and asking questions stage, but was wondering where everyone grabs their supplies from, (consumables).  I know dean at x-ring has some supplies, any other local shops sell supplies or anyone have extra stock they want to sell?  I also know there is that sticky up top with websites to order from.  Surely however some local gun store has to sell something.  Thanks for all the help guys

Firearms and Accessories / Rifle differences
« on: November 14, 2011, 06:52:15 PM »
So i been wanting a semi-auto rifle and have started doing some research.  Seems like AR and AK are 2 of the most popular choices out there.
My biggest question would be what is the difference betweent the two.  From what i gathered today at the gun store, the AK is designed to be tossed around and still function properly, meaning not having as tight tolerences, affecting accuracy, while the ar has more tighter specs, meaning it needs to be kept cleaer and can shoot more accurate.  Does that pretty much sum it up or would others like to offer there advice as well.
Also what is the difference between gas and piston and which is preferred.  To my understanding piston requires less frequent cleaning, and the piston is the operating system that chambers the next round.  Gas uses the gas from the barrel instead to accomplish this.
Needs are pretty much to have a semi-auto rifle handy, maybe even for SD or something along those lines.  Dont plan to shoot past 100yrds(i think). anything farther then that i plan to get a .308 bolt action or something.
From what i have seen there are a lot of manufactures out there that have designed there own variety.  Everyone and there grandma makes one.  For work we shot my boss' colt l&e, was a nice gun to shoot.  Little recoil, easy saftey and stuff like that.  Personally never shot a ak, although i plan to get out to the range one day and hopefully try someones out.  Also tried to do a search and these are the only links i found so was hoping could gather a little more info.
And saw the saiga 7.62 at OGC for like $399, thought it was pretty cheap for a AK so was thinking of picking that up and trying it out.  At that price if i dont like it i can always turn around and sell it and i wont be breaking the bank.  Anyone have experience with the Saigas?

Firearms and Accessories / .308 Research
« on: September 20, 2011, 06:54:16 PM »
Anyone on here got a .308?  I checked some out today.  I like the feel of the bolt and the trigger on the remmington 700SPS.  The XRS was smooth as well.  They are bare guns though so i would need to buy rails, scope, etc, etc.  Also checked out a mossburg 30-06.  Felt just as heavy as the .308.  They didnt have a .308 i could hold though.  Liked that gun as well.  Was wondering what everyone thought of these guns or recommend any other .308s.  I know the remmingtons have a lot of good reviews and are suppose to be super accurate.  The recoil pad is great as well.  Heard they had trigger problems though in the past on the 700 series.  The mossberg i havent heard much about so just staying open minded.

Looking for a gun with a smooth bolt and smooth trigger.  Accurate.  Plan to shoot pigs and goats.  Let me know.  And sorry for all the new threads.

Preparedness and Survival / vacuum sealing
« on: September 17, 2011, 03:20:55 PM »
I been recently looking into storing food, dried fish, meat, etc but one problem im coming across is the food molding in ziplock bags.  I like my meat a little soft on the inside, so i wrap it in newspaper or paper towel and store it in the ziplock bag.  After a few days it starts to mold.  I think with a vaccum sealer it would eleminate this problem cause all the air is out.  You guys recommend any good brands, pointers, things to look out for when buying one?  Any help is appreciated.
