idk man... I mean I get a letter each month from publisher's clearing house saying I could be a millionair. now how much you wanna bet I didn't win?
-
Check the Mayors calender, I'm sure he and some other politicians would be there for ribbon cutting type reopening.
-
I'm thinking it's a partial opening, that the rifle range is still closed. I don't think they work that fast.
-
???Does anyone know who we can contact to get the ball rolling on getting back the full range?

I just shot this off (pun intended) to Mayor Caldwell.
Dear Mayor Caldwell,
Than you for your support.
I understand that work is underway to rebuild the 100yd berm.
Is their any plans to relocate the steel plates, so that we can shoot beyond 100yds?
I have been using the Rifle Range for more then 12 years, at least once a week. I'm eagerly awaiting the reopening.

Current proposed new rules are 100 yards, paper targets only
I would be very surprised if there is any deviation from this
Does not hurt to ask, though

IMHO, we need to keep pushing to get the whole range back. The ricochet theory was based on the plates that were laying down. I understood, that their are folks ready to do to do steel repairs.
How many years has the range allowed shooting steel at various distances out to 440 yds, without one incidence. Except for the 50 cal which are now banned.
-
.
-
I'm more worried about allowing 50, 25 and even 10 yd distances. I personally do not shoot out beyond 50 yards, because thats the effective range of my weapon systems.
Don't say that! My Mosins reached the 240 yd steel 4 out of 5 shots all day long!!
(and No Scope!)

They didn't say which Friday.

Freaky Friday

I'm glad the range is opening again, however this is still an unfortunate win for the anti gunners. Kokohead went from shooting paper and steel at 50-400 yards to temporarily shut down and now basically shooting dirt at 100 yards. Guaranteed well get complaints of ricochets even when only shooting paper. Yes, we need to get the distances and steel restored

Jim,
How does this ricochet theory work with plates laying down? You talking about the plane of the plate's surface being parallel to the level ground? The law of reflection dictates that the angle of incident equals the law of reflection. A round skimming the surface of a plate lying down would therefore be reflected off a flat plate at the same angle.

My point exactly! This is one of the arguments used that limited us to 100yds only..

This is the response to my e-mail about going beyond 100yds.
Dear Mr.
Thank you for your email
the shooting distance of targets
on November 22, 2013, regarding the decision to limit
at the Koko Head Shooting Complex Rifle Range.
This management decision was instituted on November 1, 2013, due to
problems with the long distance targets which were being moved and/or placed in
inappropriate locations or in an unsafe manner. It was difficult to identify and correct
because the persons putting up targets were doing so possibly during the closure hours
of the range.
The decision to limit the maximum distance of shooting to be 100 yards is to
maintain a safe and controlled environment for the benefit of all users.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Todd Hiranaga, East Honolulu
Manager, at 373-8013.
Sincerely,
Kirk CaIdwell
Mayor

The evidence, or lack thereof, does not matter here. The facts are that the range has now found itself in the middle of a residential area. The 'repaired' range will be severely limited for rifle, from this point forward. A purpose built rifle venue is the only option left for rifle owners. Unless you are content on putting holes in paper exclusively at 100 yards.....

The range has had the community all around for many years. My question is, why did it only start raining bullets in 2013?
A new venue would be fantastic, except I don't believe it will happen in my life time.
-
Anyone got word if they opened the range today and if so what sides did they open?

Forward needs a first step. Otherwise, one is just standing still.

So................who wants to tell him the reason why he wouldn't be able see the eyebrow is because he's taking pictures from the wrong side of the range? I love it when people try to sound smart or educated on a subject, and fail at it.

Just got this from HRA:
The entire Koko Head Shooting Complex remains closed for remediation work. Not withstanding a KITV News report, the opening is planned Wednesday for noon, Jan 29, 2014, per Rangemaster Mike Muramoto.
The work is progressing nicely. As of 1:30 pm this afternoon, it appears that the Rifle Range eyebrow is framed and 1/3 roofed, the large sandpiles have been distributed from the 50 yard target line to the backstop, and there are large piles of clean dirt at the 100 yard target line ready to resurface the backstop.
Mahalo to Mayor Carlisle, Parks Director Toni Robinson, Rangemaster Mike Muramoto, and all the County employees who are working so expeditiously to re-open the ranges.

obviously a lie, the greg said no work has been done on the eyebrow
changes to twitter feed in 5, 4, 3,............

Just saw the repair work pics on his twitter. Don't know much about construction, but what is the purpose of laying out the sand on the range like that? Guessing the dirt is going to be used for the berm. And yeah hopefully they covered the holes, or maybe they'll make new ones since the old ones were filled with dirt and rocks.

I can only hope that the sand is in place to allow shooting at closer targets.
the sand is to fill in the ruts as you walk to the 100 yard line

Do other ranges have sand? I hope it doesn't become a problem after a rain and wet sand gets stuck to your shoes and ends up all over the bench areas. Or gusty winds blowing the sand around. I'm sure everyone knows what it's like to get sand blasted at the beach. Rifles and sand don't mix, except AK-47's of course.
-
Why you gotta crush my dreams!
it's what my people do
>:D
-
I googled gun ranges, looks like some do have sand.
-
I was thinking they was going to use the sand to level the area out then, topsoil over, followed by grass. Too nice?

That makes too much sense. ;D

Water plus sand equal quicksand. It's a liberal plot to drown all practicing, law-abiding gun owners in quicksand!

Kaneohe Gun Shop had more info on his site, about range being open to only 100 yards only.

But all in one place

will silhouette side be affected at all?

Will we be allowed to breath while shooting? :wtf:

"Breath Control" .... makes all the difference when shooting!

Oh how wonderful...looks like I won't be using the rifle range ever.
Knudsen scores another victory! One less shooter at "his park"!!

"Firing line point numbers 28 to 105 will be for bench shooting only"
"Firing line point numbers 16 to 27 will be for position (standing, sitting, or prone) only."
Wish there was more spaces for standing, sitting, prone. 12 seems too little, compared to the over 75 bench only places...
Plus what about numbers 1-15?
-

From telling people they are dumb asses because they don't need things to quit going to the rifle range because it's limited to 100yards.... :-\
Wonder if you can still set up clay pigeons on the backstop, they might pose to much of a ricochet risk though. ::) ..and no buck shot? Do they think the shot is gonna go over the hill? Nor no 25 or 50 yard targets?....meh

I hope this changes. I like to change positions when shooting, to include going from bench to prone especially for targets beyond the 100yard line. But with all these changes will we ever be able to shoot beyond 100yards?

likelihood is that for the forseeable future, 100 yards only, no metal targets

It would have been nice if the folks making range decisions would have asked for input from the end users.
Or do they think we are mushrooms, to be kept in a closet and fed BS? ::)

You need to clean your closet!
Just saying...

Aw...are you still mad because I called you out for being a tactical fan boy who wants a sawed off shotgun which has no application whatsoever aside from trying to impressing the girls and guys at the range?
You should really back track and read posts as to why I might have said I won't shoot at the rifle range before you make yourself look dumb again.
P.S. you still don't need that shit
What is a "tactical fan boy"? You keep using that term, come up with something better.
No, I don't wear plate carriers running around my house if that's your question.
And no, I don't need one nor do you need an AR. That's doesn't mean I wouldn't want one.
Fact is you sound like a bitch.

You're still responding so obviously you do..Guessing you're too dense to put that together though.

A quality, top-notch range there.

Since the range did not, in fact, open, we should close this thread. Latest word is, the range will open on Wed, 29 Jan -- 9 days from today. This topic, Range Could Open Friday, has been Overcome By Events (OBE).
