hours are from 8 am to 4 pm
please, we need tents, tables and chairs
we are short staffed and under equipped right now
due to the last minute nature of the reopening, some of us made other plans
some people will be asked to RSO in turns
but everyone is welcome
we need target stands using 0.5 X 2 legs (not 1X2 or 2 X 2)- any height ok
or people to bring 0.5 X 2 pieces of wood and cardboard
and paper targets
-
NOTE:
EVERYONE PLEASE
i know we all have a lot of pent up energy and frustration from the range closure
but we need to remember that we are under EXTREME scrutiny at the range
any problems or breaking of range rules ANYWHERE on KHSC can lead to more difficulties for the shooting community
we do not want more closures and restrictions
so let's have a safe and fun day tomorrow
aloha

I'm in. :shaka:

wow fun shoot from 8-4? sounds good. i can help watch the line before or after my friends come by. im gonna invite a couple people i occasionally shoot with to check it out.
i got a small-medium sized folding table. it can at least hold all my gear plus one or two other persons.
i dont have any wood, but i have a lot of wing nuts and bolts to build targets...but i think 1/2' wood might be too thin. these bolts are only half threaded and are pretty long overall length for making rifle stands. i can bring em if you guys want but that means id need to bring a drill to make the holes for the bolts. maybe metal clamps would be faster if anyone has em.
i also have some cardboard and paper targets to donate.

oh
i forgot
STAPLE GUNS
we basically put the 1/2 by 2s in a rail in the ground and staple the cardboard to the wood
it's very low tech
clamps work too
-
Note
so to sum it up everyone.
*You will need to bring your own targets and stands
*you need your own water and lunch for the day
*must leave range better then we got it.
*open to all no membership needed.
*A monetary donation will be collected for our new steel targeting system for all to enjoy which hopefully will be available for the Feb hdf day. :shaka:
Thanks everyone lets try to make this a successful event i feel the more attendees we have consistantly the more we can push for the larger action bay so support...WE DO THIS FOR ALL OF US!!!

Okay, I can make it for medical. Almost wasn't able to because I figured the range would be closed! I'll bring my staple gun and two large sheets of cardboard, I don't have any targets though. I can also help with RSO duties as needed.

Brett
no worries Brett. This shindig will be in the action bay #1 in the kokohead shooting complex. As you enter look on your left that's where it is. The correct bay is the one with the shipping container.

Gah! I made plans that day :( I guess it's next month for me :(

well it takes a good man to admit his card was pulled. Lucky you at least get to hold it...sometimes. that's ok this month is just a steam blow off anyway. So next month will probably the same training plan that was supposed to be for this month. ( pistol )

good day at the range today. much needed range therapy. went around 1 and had an hour to shoot.
but i didn't know from 2-4 is a closed range and only allowed the RSO's to shoot....right? Then i noticed that 3-4 individuals came around 2:15pm, who werent the RSO of the day, got to shoot. So my question is "why do they get to?" I'm all for the RSO's and their turn to shoot but was confused on why the others could.
-
Thanks guys for allowing us to participate... Kanoa always does a great job...
Volcano needs to wear eye protection at all times even while standing and just watching... Next time if he is just going to stand and watch pick up our damn brass.... LMAO give him hell next time!!!!
Nice meeting Stomp and Mac!!! I did see the gangsta lean.... Hahaha

volcano definitely needed eye protection during the "watch steve demonstrate his lack of rifle knowledge" portion of the range day
note to the gawkers/helpers/razzers: i just got the charging handle back on
mahalo for all your input

Alright so yes the range time from 2-4 is rso range time it also allows us to train with other advanced shooters to elevate our skills so we may pass on the knowledge we gather. It is also a time that we self regulate on safety duties which means there is no dedicated rso which means we will not leave it to chance for the general public to participate. We dedicate so much time and energy to make this happen for all. so those last 2 hours is intended eventually building it up to remove advanced shooters to this late session make room for more attendees in the 102 instruction. Hopefully we can do a total of 45 total participants.

who had da better lean?
Not sure about the lean but I know I had the most flinches every time on the last round... I better bring at least 500 rounds next time to practice... Damn ammo goes fast...

ok thanks for the clarification dirty.

Who is defined as an 'advanced shooter'? Is this based on range day attendance or actual experience/training qualifications?
I didn't want to label it as advanced shooter for lack of a better term what I should have said is " course development" Rso enhancement time. With a intention of developing that time into a course for more attendees. But yes it is based on both of those plus some additional qualifing. Hopefully this helps. But if you feel you need more please see our NRA certified instructors henry or kanoa.

Funny how people can call you an a$$hole on the internet. Then again.....I am one of those. Here is an example of an advanced shooter:
Diamond Ring Trick Shot (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuJ4Jv0orgE#ws)
28 April Run and Gun (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XeKNYC8wC4U#ws)
We have a fat guy down....send help. Too bad, it must be nice to play tactical Barbie!
-
Course development......hmmm sounds like a bunch of shooter getting together to practice Dynamic Pie Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for the most part. LOL ;) I just finished the NRA Pistol Instructor Course up here in the mainland. It's a joke but it helps pad the resume in spite of lacking any certified pistol instructor certification. Can anybody enumerate on what type of Program of Instruction (POI) they are working on? You should elaborate on that to prevent any kind of misperceptions about personal range use. Unfortunately this happens a lot in some of the private clubs up here in our state. I feel bad for you guys in the "Aloha State" when it comes to shooting, because Koko Head is the only place you fellas can shoot. Are there any other organizations who will allow the development of defensive/tactical pistol craft on Oahu besides the HDF Fun Shoots or is there a select few who are able to do this kind of training at a location besides Koko Head? Please let us know.
hop2it I can hardly call the 4hours of instruction time teaching a basic 101 and 102 instruction personal dynamic pie with up to 40+ attendees on a open invitation with a additional 2hours of individual practice time "personal" use??? And I dont personally take calling the nra a Joke it was important enough for you to go thru??

and yeah, bring 500 rounds next time
mag dumps take a lot of ammo

Unlike you, we do not require NRA Certs to purchase a firearm in this state. So I am fortunate to not have some wanna be instructor take on 40 unknown skills sets on the ready line. Yee Haw! If you are asking to train all al sorts of skill of levels at one time..... well then you are just kidding your self. Give me a break!
If you can provide your Program of Instruction I would really like to see how you are qualifying yourself as a pistol instructor instead of hiding behind NRA Certs. Too many You Tube Warrior out there!
Well, I'll stop bothering you and go out to my back yard burn off a couple of rounds. It's nice to have have a place to shoot instead of waiting to shoot only once a month to practice.
Good luck and stay safe :closed:
We don't need NRA certs to acquire a firearm here in Hawaii. What are these skills you talk about anyways?
-
At the end of the day we are lucky to have a place to shoot and where more experienced guys help out the less experienced guys.... All walks of life and all skill levels get together to learn, teach and have a safe fun day....
I think everyone would like to be the best, know everything and own everything but hey we got what we got and we make do with what we have!!!!
Gotta be thankful we have some good guys who took over the event to teach, setup and administer!!!!

With the very limited amount of resources and time we have here, HDF does a GREAT job!
Chris, Mac, DL, Henry, Kanoa and others should be commended for what they do and not attacked, especially by someone from the mainland who obviously has no idea of the environment here.
The best part of HDF is that they do welcome everyone. I looked into different groups and many wouldn't give me the time of day, so when I found HDF I was very happy and appreciative. I've been shooting for over 30 years with extensive tactical/advanced training and still learn something new every shoot. Being able to teach a little is nice too.
No elitist attitudes, just good training.
Seems like something is in the water and everyone wants to throw in their two cents; "why did they get to shoot" , " what's a advanced shooter", " what are your credentials"........suggestions and ideas will always be welcome, but damn lets all chill out. Hopefully it's all from shooting withdrawals.
HDF continues to evolve to safely & consistently train and educate. Lets remember HDF accomplishes alot beyond the range too!
I'm proud to be part of HDF

What's your problem? I'd be more worried about some wannabe instructor who takes the NRA cert course to pad his resume. The ole resume has got to be a little light if you need the cert to pad it. Your ignorance of our local laws a long with your characterization of participants as undisciplined cowboys further demonstrates your arrogance. Yes, please go home and burn off a few rounds in your backyard you seem to have a lot of pent up negativity and need an outlet to make yourself feel better. Your criticisms reek of amateur hour - what are your credentials sir? What have you accomplished that gives you the right to be so judgemental?
-
The best part about HDF range days is the variety. Sure some guys are itching to bust out the plate carriers and compete with each other but it's still accessible for those who love blowing wads of cash with pointless mag dumps, or at least put in the bare minimum training so we don't become a total liability and make things worse in a bad situation. If the rso's want to relax and have a good time at the end with their clique then go for it. The rest of the complex is still open to the public, and it's a great opportunity for them to compare notes and come up with a better plan for the following month without the risk of some busybody injecting unsolicited opinions.
-
Sorry if I started this dirty. Should of just pm'ed u bout it.

I know the sign says DNFTT, but like others, I am a sucker...
hop2it, sometime people have a hard time seeing through my words and understanding my meaning. I want to make sure that doesn't happen here...
You are being an asshole.
You are insulting people who are volunteering their time. You are insulting people who want to see an improvement, both in the skill levels of individual shooters, and the 2A community as a whole. You are insulting people who you know nothing about. Why would you do such a thing?
I'm glad you have a backyard to play in. I sure wouldn't want you on the line next to me.

Yep, agreed Lifer. HDF never said this is some HSLD Operators only need apply shoot anything that moves class or event! Not training for the end of the world sheesh. If we're lucky to have such instructors in our midst some day I'm sure they'd be welcome to add or hold a class. I don't believe we're locked into KKSC either. Chill out guy i think the winter is getting to ya.
