good day at the range today. much needed range therapy. went around 1 and had an hour to shoot.

but i didn't know from 2-4 is a closed range and only allowed the RSO's to shoot....right? Then i noticed that 3-4 individuals came around 2:15pm, who werent the RSO of the day, got to shoot.  So my question is "why do they get to?"  I'm all for the RSO's and their turn to shoot but was confused on why the others could.

Alright so yes the range time from 2-4 is rso range time it also allows us to train with other advanced shooters to elevate our skills so we may pass on the knowledge we gather.  It is also a time that we self regulate on safety duties which means there is no dedicated rso which means we will not leave it to chance for the general public to participate. We dedicate so much time and energy to make this happen for all. so those last 2 hours is intended eventually building it up to remove advanced shooters to this late session make room for more attendees in the 102 instruction. Hopefully we can do a total of 45 total participants.

Who is defined as an 'advanced shooter'? Is this based on range day attendance or actual experience/training qualifications?
I didn't  want to label it as advanced shooter for lack of a better term what I should have said is " course development" Rso enhancement time. With a intention of developing that time into a course for more attendees. But yes it is based on both of those plus some additional qualifing. Hopefully this helps. But if you feel you need more please see our NRA certified instructors henry or kanoa.

Funny how people can call you an a$$hole on the internet.  Then again.....I am one of those. Here is an example of an advanced shooter:

We have a fat guy down....send help.  Too bad, it must be nice to play tactical Barbie!

Course development......hmmm sounds like a bunch of shooter getting together to practice Dynamic Pie Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures for the most part.  LOL ;)  I just finished the NRA Pistol Instructor Course up here in the mainland.  It's a joke but it helps pad the resume in spite of  lacking any certified pistol instructor certification.  Can anybody enumerate on what type of Program of Instruction (POI) they are working on?  You should elaborate on that to prevent any kind of misperceptions about personal range use.  Unfortunately this happens a lot in some of the private clubs up here in our state.  I feel bad for you guys in the  "Aloha State"  when it comes to shooting, because Koko Head is the only place you fellas can shoot.  Are there any other organizations who will allow the development of defensive/tactical pistol craft on Oahu besides the HDF Fun Shoots or is there a select few who are able to do this kind of training at a location besides Koko Head? Please let us know.
hop2it I can hardly call the 4hours of instruction time teaching a basic 101 and 102 instruction personal dynamic pie with up to 40+ attendees on a open invitation with a additional 2hours of individual practice time "personal" use??? And I dont personally take calling the nra a Joke it was important enough for you to go thru??

Unlike you, we do not require NRA Certs to purchase a firearm in this state. So I am fortunate to not have some wanna be instructor take on 40 unknown skills sets on the ready line.  Yee Haw!  If you are asking to train all al sorts of skill of levels at one time..... well then you are just kidding your self. Give me a break!
If you can provide your Program of Instruction I would really like to see how you are qualifying yourself as a pistol instructor instead of hiding behind NRA Certs.  Too many You Tube Warrior out there!
Well, I'll stop bothering you and go out to my back yard burn off a couple of rounds.  It's nice to have have a place to shoot instead of waiting to shoot only once a month to practice.
Good luck and stay safe :closed:
We don't need NRA certs to acquire a firearm here in Hawaii. What are these skills you talk about anyways?

At the end of the day we are lucky to have a place to shoot and where more experienced guys help out the less experienced guys.... All walks of life and all skill levels get together to learn, teach and have a safe fun day....

I think everyone would like to be the best, know everything and own everything but hey we got what we got and we make do with what we have!!!!

Gotta be thankful we have some good guys who took over the event to teach, setup and administer!!!!

With the very limited amount of resources and time we have here, HDF does a GREAT job!

Chris, Mac, DL, Henry, Kanoa and others should be commended for what they do and not attacked, especially by someone from the mainland who obviously has no idea of the environment here.

The best part of HDF is that they do welcome everyone. I looked into different groups and many wouldn't give me the time of day, so when I found HDF I was very happy and appreciative. I've been shooting for over 30 years with extensive tactical/advanced training and still learn something new every shoot. Being able to teach a little is nice too.
No elitist attitudes, just good training.

Seems like something is in the water and everyone wants to throw in their two cents; "why did they get to shoot" , " what's a advanced shooter", " what are your credentials"........suggestions and ideas will always be welcome, but damn lets all chill out. Hopefully it's all from shooting withdrawals.

HDF continues to evolve to safely & consistently train and educate. Lets remember HDF accomplishes alot beyond the range too!

I'm proud to be part of HDF
