Ok just want to release some information on the October Hdf range day. The subject matter is going to be shot guns. This is the first time that HDF is presenting this session. some clarifications to DL's post:
the october range day will be a new one for the HDF
we are going to hold a shotgun class
due to the nature of the firearms system, and the fact that for almost every attendee will not be that familiar with running a shotgun in this manner, we are going to strictly limit the class size and the class will be longer
and, in turn, we will also be increasing the range fee for this session only
you will need a pump or semi shotgun that can hold 6 rounds or more (1 in chamber, at least 5 in tube/magazine)
no single shot or over/unders allowed
you must have the ability to carry 10 rounds on the firearm or on your person (side saddle, speedfeed, etc on firearm or belt/bandolier/pouch/etc on your body)
approximate round count is 30 slugs 20 rounds 00 buckshot, and 200 rounds birdshot (#7 or smaller)
long pants and covered shoes are REQUIRED
some people will be more comfortable wearing gloves of some type
slings are optional, not required
signups will be the standard 2nd saturday of the month 8 am
please ask any questions you have now so we can all be on the same page
have a great weekend, everyone

Attendees will be limited in size.

...and 200 rounds birdshot (#7 or smaller)...
Shot size #7 1/2 and smaller correct? Same as the trap side at Kokohead? Should we also bring our full assortment of chokes as well?

we will be doing patterning shooting 00 and buck so I would just to be safe.

my feeling is that you should use one choke for everything and pattern it
you are not gonna change chokes in the middle of a home defense situation, right?

7.5 is better
but the range staff said 7 is ok if you cannot get 7.5 or 8

Is it ok to bring a shotgun that holds 15 rounds?
-
Would using a saiga12 for the course defeat the purpose and drills?

yes you can..we just have a minimum of 6 in the tube requirement.Would using a saiga12 for the course defeat the purpose and drills?
yes it does but if thats all you have then run it if you have to.

When is the all steel day?

That's discrimination!
It's because they're black right? Racist.
You should find a way to make the drills more "inclusive", otherwise Saiga owners could suffer damage to their self esteem.
We must stop this war on weapons with detachable magazines, it's not fair!
I think I'll sue, for the sake of "the children". :shake:

Damn, I want to do this so bad, but I got two things going against me... First, I gotta work medical at the UH game, so I can only stay until 1300 or so. Second, my car lease ends around that time, so I may not even have a car. Dammit, I have been dying to run my Mossy at one of these shoots!

Yup Jonjon shooting our calendar. The men of chub and dales. I got June. Q got December. Speed is January got to start off the year with a bang. Dirty got October since he likes to play dress up. Mack stomper and hound got November only way they make weight requirement. Still taking applicants. :geekdanc:

I've always had an issue with the term "cylinder choke." A choke is a constriction of the barrel. The so-called cylinder choke offers no constriction, so the term is a genuine oxymoron. I realize that, at best, this is a D list item, but still, it bugs me.
If it were up to me, chokes would be graded on a percentage scale. 0% would equal what is referred to as cylinder, and 100% would equal an obstructed bore. Or we could do like baseball and inflate the scores by a factor of 10, going from 0 to 1000. it would give a much more accurate representation of what the choke actually was.
Anyway, hope you all have a blast!!!

Dammit.
I was gonna come just watch you guys you guys shoot.......
IRound count will be something like 100 00buck /100 slugs / 200 bird
After 200 rounds of 12 ga slug and 00 buck, I figured somebody might need a ride home due to a dislocated shoulder.
Can anyone say flinch. JK
50 rounds plus bird is much more reasonable. ( for most people at least )
Have fun you guys. Sounds like a great day.
HDF stepping up. Keep up the good work.
P.S.
No open shoot ?

NOTE TO ALL SHOTGUN CLASS PARTICIPANTS:
our instructor corps is recommending you cut your thumbnails on both hands to prevent breakage of nails while loading
they are also strongly recommending long sleeve shirts for prone shooting

I'll be coming from the station that day, but I will be there for medical again. I'll have to bail in the early afternoon before the free shoot to work my other job, but I hope to be able to squeeze in and do some scattergun stuff with the rest of the gang!
