Nope, it was reported as an AR-15 assault rifle on HHN.  I'm just wondering if it was actually real..... there was a report of a shot fired "in the area" and that there was an injury but the lack of detail is truly amazing.

He's 15 and now has a felony arrest.

I'm wondering who gave him access to the rifle.

According to one story, at least one shot was fired.  Didn't specify if that shot was from this weapon, though.

i believe i heard him call it a "semi-automatic assault rifle"
and i'm not quite sure i heard it correctly, but he was saying something like "not all police officers are trained/qualified to use one"

He's on the level of Hawaiian Ryan on opinions. Most of his comedic acts are just reruns of past Hawaiian comedians.
Most police officers perceived public need for firearms = 0. Meaning that if you , the citizen needs help call 911. Then someone with a firearm will respond to your need...hopefully in time. There are some LEOs that recognize the inalienable right to self-defense but they are few and far between

I notice that they're being very careful not to say the idiot child shot anyone, or that he even fired the rifle. Only that "At least one shot was fired" and "One person was injured".

Normally they would be drooling over the opportunity to say someone was shot, especially by someone with an "Assault rifle".

I also was watching KHON, they reported that "At least one shot was heard in the vicinity". It's what they don't include that makes the story in this case.

That being said, every gun owner in the state should be allowed to line up and slap this moron child upside the head once, for each gun they own.

There are idiot legislators writing up bills for even more restrictions on gun ownership while I type this.

According to the U.S. DHS who submitted a purchase request, these AR style rifles are PERSONAL DEFENSE WEAPONS.
You can view the Solicitation # HSCEMS-12-R-00011 which is titled Personal Defense Weapons Solicitation online.   This is what I would submit as part of testimony against any AW ban attempt in Hawaii.
Ask the legislators if they intend to prohibit citizens from possessing weapons for their personal defense which is a right granted to all Americans from the 2nd.  Why does a civilian need a weapon that can hold >10?  Ask trained LEO in Maui and Oahu (Palolo 1995) in which 3 officers had to fire over 40 rounds to stop a suspect.  In the Palolo case, at least 2 of the officers had to have fired the full 15 rounds from their weapons.   This is based on the newspaper accounts at the time of amount of rounds fired.

I think the owner should be charged with failure to secure the gun from unauthorized access

.....
"If a minor under 16 years of age is likely to gain access to your firearm, without parental permission, except as provided by law when at a range or hunting, you may be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by fine and jail (unless obtained by break-in, etc.).

The owner of a firearm is “absolutely” liable for personal injury or property damage caused by the discharge of he firearm unless the firearm was stolen and reasonably reported stolen, or unless the discharge of the firearm was legally justified. A firearm must be locked up or otherwise reasonably secured unless carried on the person or in such close proximity that the person readily can retrieve and use it as if it were carried on the person."

Yes, irresponsible reporting calling it an assault rifle repeatedly - however on the rerun of the story last night they corrected the verbiage to semi-automatic (thank you) and did not use the "panic inducing" and made up term, "assault rifle", not even once.  Again, thank you news crews for following up accurately.

At least someone in the news has common sense.   Someone commenting on S.A.  also brought up this fact.   I think if no follow up reporting on how this kid got the rifle, it was stolen and not taken from the family member.   Wonder what happened to the stolen AR-15 from the state LEO's car some years back.  IIRC, he kept it in the trunk even at home.

Here it goes:

The kid was coming down Waialae Ave on his moped when he cut through the McD Kaimuki parking lot to avoid the light.  6 Micronesian boys blocked him from exiting the parking lot and 3 more came over and took him moped and School Bag.  He was on the ground getting mugged by the others. Getting punched and kicked repeatedly.  Some bystanders saw what happen and intervened.  They helped the kid get back his stuff and he rode off on his moped.

Unprovoked Attack.
Same kids been know to mug others right there and not only kids. Adults also.
This is the 2nd time the kid got mugged by these punks. His friend got mugged by the same group.
The group is called LK
The police know about them and have continued to let them slide for months.

He went home angry. broke into his dads safe and went back.....the rest you know.

The same 9 kids were finally arrested the following day and the next day for doing the same thing to other people!!
But not for the beating up the kid.

Irritates me that the news does not report on this.  I talked to some friends who are officers and they said the
violence with the kids that come from the Micronesian area is terrible now.

Hope the dad eventually gets his rifle back.   What is described is terrorism and if HPD knows about it and happens at the same location, they should have got together with McD's to keep that gang out.   Especially since students from at least 4 nearby schools go there.  However this is Hawaii and the big thing is protecting their identities and making sure they got a Micro interpreter.   The Micro presence here is similar to the amigos coming over the border with many belonging to MS-13 and similar groups or the refugees (ISIS or AQ?)  now flooding central Europe.   Like all that have fallen, this nation (actually BHO and minions) is allowing and encouraging a rising fifth column within the gates to bring us down.   Every single eligible voter here had better vote with no excuses.
I've been to that McD's before in the morning and it's a nice place.  Long ago the Palolo McD's was called Palo-Wai Drive Inn.
