Nope, it was reported as an AR-15 assault rifle on HHN.  I'm just wondering if it was actually real..... there was a report of a shot fired "in the area" and that there was an injury but the lack of detail is truly amazing.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

He's 15 and now has a felony arrest.

I'm wondering who gave him access to the rifle.

According to one story, at least one shot was fired.  Didn't specify if that shot was from this weapon, though.

i believe i heard him call it a "semi-automatic assault rifle"
and i'm not quite sure i heard it correctly, but he was saying something like "not all police officers are trained/qualified to use one"

He's on the level of Hawaiian Ryan on opinions. Most of his comedic acts are just reruns of past Hawaiian comedians.
Most police officers perceived public need for firearms = 0. Meaning that if you , the citizen needs help call 911. Then someone with a firearm will respond to your need...hopefully in time. There are some LEOs that recognize the inalienable right to self-defense but they are few and far between

David Clarke needs to be president one day.... maybe in 9 years or so.

I notice that they're being very careful not to say the idiot child shot anyone, or that he even fired the rifle. Only that "At least one shot was fired" and "One person was injured".

Normally they would be drooling over the opportunity to say someone was shot, especially by someone with an "Assault rifle".

I also was watching KHON, they reported that "At least one shot was heard in the vicinity". It's what they don't include that makes the story in this case.

That being said, every gun owner in the state should be allowed to line up and slap this moron child upside the head once, for each gun they own.

There are idiot legislators writing up bills for even more restrictions on gun ownership while I type this.

According to the U.S. DHS who submitted a purchase request, these AR style rifles are PERSONAL DEFENSE WEAPONS.
You can view the Solicitation # HSCEMS-12-R-00011 which is titled Personal Defense Weapons Solicitation online.   This is what I would submit as part of testimony against any AW ban attempt in Hawaii.
Ask the legislators if they intend to prohibit citizens from possessing weapons for their personal defense which is a right granted to all Americans from the 2nd.  Why does a civilian need a weapon that can hold >10?  Ask trained LEO in Maui and Oahu (Palolo 1995) in which 3 officers had to fire over 40 rounds to stop a suspect.  In the Palolo case, at least 2 of the officers had to have fired the full 15 rounds from their weapons.   This is based on the newspaper accounts at the time of amount of rounds fired.

I think the owner should be charged with failure to secure the gun from unauthorized access

.....
"If a minor under 16 years of age is likely to gain access to your firearm, without parental permission, except as provided by law when at a range or hunting, you may be guilty of a misdemeanor punishable by fine and jail (unless obtained by break-in, etc.).

The owner of a firearm is “absolutely” liable for personal injury or property damage caused by the discharge of he firearm unless the firearm was stolen and reasonably reported stolen, or unless the discharge of the firearm was legally justified. A firearm must be locked up or otherwise reasonably secured unless carried on the person or in such close proximity that the person readily can retrieve and use it as if it were carried on the person."
