While I all all for people overcoming, rising above, etc disabilities. Come on man! Yeah, I get this may have been fun. Making someone feel good about themselves and such. Still...

Consider this.
In the United States, any person with vision that cannot be corrected to better than 20/200 in the best eye, or who has 20 degrees or less of visual field remaining, is considered legally blind. 20/200 is the big "E" at the top of the eye chart. If you read the E and nothing smaller, you're legally blind.
That's corrected to 20/200, meaning it's worse uncorrected. Do we place restrictions on gun owners like we do drivers? "Corrective lenses required to operate?"

Again, I am not one to deny someone their right to defend themselves. Just my opinion that I don't see a blind person CCW being a good idea. If you or anyone else want to legally, or illegally for that matter, carry, rock on.

I could name a half dozen variables that would have to be considered in answering that.
1. distance to the threat/s
2. number of bystanders
3. unique characteristics of the threat which make distinguishing from others easy (voice, colors of clothing, ...).
4. number of threats
5. amount of lighting in the vicinity (i.e. dark alley versus bright day in park).
6. familiarity with the location. Memorizing the layout previously can be an advantage.
He'd have to judge if using the gun himself is prudent.
Consider this. If he's with others, he may have the opportunity to pass the firearm to someone with no visual impairment. At least one person planned ahead and packed an iron! :geekdanc:

All kidding aside (I think), whether "legally blind" or "blind blind", if such a person was in physical contact with the criminal (as during an assault) a firearm would be the most effective tool for self-defense. But it is my (limited) understanding that unless one is careful and/or able to keep the muzzle directly off the body that a revolver is recommended as pressure against the muzzle (as when pressed against a body) can cause malfunction of a semi-auto. Seems like a "legitimate" cause for carry for a blind person.

I think that is a bad idea.
The 3 NRA basic rules...safe direction, unloaded till ready, finger off trigger.
How would he know what is a safe direction to point the pistol?

He shot better than the guy that was next to me at HFR a few weeks ago. He was at 3 yards shooting his 45 and barely on paper. As in majority of his shots were not in the black silhouette and in the white background. He needs Jesus.

I find it wonderful that someone like that has the aspirations to get a CCW. Pass the test, carry the gun, and feel proud. Give him the benefit of the doubt that he knows his own limitations.
