Went to register the CZ P10C and the snack shop side was open for apps. I went right to register the pistol.
Wanted to drop off CCW app after that but was told the snack shop side is a "gun free zone".
Cant leave gun in car, and HPD had no "storage". Only option was to go home and drop off gun and come back. Or drop off back at gun shop and come back. I didnt want to make a 3rd trip in 1 day.
What was salt on the wound was there was no line. Ill try again later.
Was told to go home drop off gun and come back.

If you had the gun case in a backpack, and if you didn't ask if it's okay to bring a pistol in, I doubt they would have even known you had it.
Did they have signs posted saying "no guns"?

Something like that, I believe No Firearms?
-
There is the sign "gun free zone"
I've witnessed someone leave a firearm on the gun side while they do business on the paper side before, but this is hpd firearms division. Expect the unexpected.....
-
Walk past gun free zone signs every time. They do no one any good.

I've seen this many times, but hey had to go and feed the meter. The issue is that the people there registering guns won't steal anything (law abiding). But it's the others who come in to pick up police reports might. I've seen bums inside many times.

Guy at window told me "only PD or military can apply".
Told him we are a "may issue" state and anyone can apply.
Asked if i was testing his knowledge. Situation started to be confrontational.
Asked if i was the guy that kept applying. Told him i was there on weds registering a pistol, but couldnt enter due to "gun free zone" sign.
Then another officer said "he's just trying his luck". And that i can apply.
Was made to fill out 2 sets of medical waivers (yellow and white 4 total papers) and 2 permit apps (ones in the front, not carbon). Even though app online doesnt require. I didnt want to argue more.
After that officer was cool and said he actually thinks its a good idea.

Does HPD even know what the laws actually say? Obviously looking through past posts about registering, permits, CCW, etc, they just seem to make it up as they go along and on how they feel at that particular moment.

I wonder how many others were turned away because they were told the same. I did feel uncomfortable while trying to explain the law, but that's just the way I am, I don't like to rock the boat.
I was surprised they didn't ask for my pistol registration. But I guess when I showed what's required via the HPD website, #1 says must have a registered pistol in Hawaii, not bring your reg.
Don't want to be labeled a "fanatic" either.

They already have your pistol registration on file. They can easily look it up if that's all that's stopping approval.

They looked it up on the system. But what's stopping the approval would be the chief. Officer at the counter said my CCW app goes straight to her desk. But did like my reason why I fear for my life.
-
Reason for CCW in Hawaii?
Because carrying a big dog is not practical.
Well maybe if we can alter the definition of "service" dog to include self-defense dog.

that is a correct observation
when I applied years ago, officer told me, "what you going apply for? you going get denied anyways."

Which is funny because I would say it’s the one time they could get away with Rapback enrollment

How the hell is that constitutional here at all?! Such absolute bullshit. Just carry regardless of their BS laws.

You got it all wrong. You get the dog to carry the door stop. Both can remind of bad advice. I had high hopes for the new chief. Not so much now. One somewhat old guard going after the really old guard and union reps. No different MO than past chiefs.

Kind of like ethnic cleansing. Except you loose your job and not your life.

Here's a website for ccw stats from all the states.
https://www.gunstocarry.com/concealed-carry-statistics/
Hawaii is the only states with no permits issued. But on the bright side we have one of the lowest CCW permit fees in the nation >:D
-
Yup, cost me zero...well $13 for the pics at longs.

Wait until I walk in there with shipping docs for all of my firearms, Federal retirement orders, and plane tickets for Wed and ask to un-register my weapons. Ought to be interesting.

Don't forget removal from RAPBACK, too.
You should ask the Data Center at some later point in time to verify you were removed.
-

You have got to be shiiting me...........
Once you are in the database, you never get out.
Why so many of us refuse to get any new "permission" slips from our benevolent masters.

HPD says you can be unsubscribed if you no longer have guns registered in Hawaii. It would be great for someone to do that and verify the subscription was removed.
RAPBACK is a reporting system. If you're ever included in the FBI's biometric repository, then you'll remain forever. RAPBACK reports to the subscribing agency (HPD) if you have any interaction with law enforcement in any other state. They should be able to cancel that.
-
I was never in RAPBACK. I refused to buy a gun after that crap. 100% of my firearm property is no longer in my possession.
-
I want the to unregister my weapons or write me a letter stating they cannot because the law does not allow them to.
-

Cool. I'm the same. So far, nothing registered since RAPBACK became law.
-
When I permanently removed my firearms to another state and asked if I needed to fill out some type of form, I was told "once it leaves the state of Hawaii, we don't give a $h!t".
That was when RapBack was just a thought..

They're right. Because many states do not have registration nor care. My first time CCWing in Vegas, I called metro just to confirm what I read online about the law is correct. They kind of laughed. No reg, no places to keep, don't care about ammo either (not treated the same as firearms). The only thing they were serious about was if I have a long gun inside my car, don't chamber a round. That is illegal. But I can keep the rifle on the seat next to me without a case if I want.
I could have been more of a dick and not filled out the additional forms, but I didn't want to escalate the situation even if I'm right. I could have also argued that when applying for CCW, the law doesn't mention enrollment into RAPBACK even if I'm already in it.

That's just it. I care even if they don't. I want my name and my property erased.
I can un-register my car, pet, and bicycle but not my firearms. Something basically wrong with that. I am going to find out what they say tomorrow.

"when applying for CCW, the law doesn't mention require enrollment into RAPBACK''

Here is a little cliff notes of "why I fear for my life". The app ask that question, so putting stuff in about the 2a right doesn't answer the question.
1) Chief said we're short 200+ officers, letters going out to victims about how detectives don't have the man power to investigate crimes
2) Warren vs. DC supreme court case said that PD doesn't have a duty to protect and won't be held liable if failure to do so. So combo of ruling plus shortage means in I'm in trouble, I'm on my own because cops are rarely "johnny on the spot"
3) My neighbor was robbed at gun point 20 feet from my door in 2016 (no report #, but time and date and location provided)
4) My car was broken into in March 2018 and the criminal tried to run my neighbor over when confronted. There were 5 of them in the car. (report # provided)
5) The app also ask "why I fear for my property". I wrote that I can't use deadly force to protect my property due to our deadly force law (death, serious injury, etc...) and I understand the law. So I do not fear for my property.
6) I have my Nevada CCW and completed the required course approved by the Metro PD. Which is required by law. (shows I have some training)

For that matter, how do we know that our names are being added to the $30 FBI database or if our names go into a round circular file?

Well, you could go to another state, get arrested for a felony, and count the number of days before HPD contacts you to surrender your firearms.
