Chit happens usually at the worse time. Why did he stop and hold up the whole entry team to recover the mag. He should have had more on him. No? The last guy could have recovered it.

Could we assume that since the mag wasnt seated right (fell out), when he pulled the charging handle, no round was chambered. So he had an empty rifle?
I wonder if anyone shouted stuff like "bill, ur mag fell out. U empty. Reload".
Robbery video showed about 8 guys rushing the jewlrey store.
Man in there with his family, shielded them until they could flee the store. He got a huge set on him.

Happened to me in a shooting match.
Seen it happen to other guys several times.
Usually caused by extended or larger size mag release button.

For handguns, I've seen folks who make their own holsters, the holster body can hit the mag release if they are not careful.
For long guns, a deliberate load procedure would have prevented. I am in the habit of doing press checks, but a simple "seat and pull" for the mag should have prevented that. I've noticed that mag seating problems tend to happen more when loading full mags on closed bolts.

Yeah that too.
Now that I think about it, that's what happened to me at the match.
The problem was that I was practicing with a new gun at The bullseye range where only 5 rounds are allowed.
So when I got out to the action bay for the first time with that pistol, I loaded the mags up to full capacity.
When the mag is full it takes a lot more effort to lock in.
At home, the extended mag release activated when I put the pistol in my quick access safe box.
Needless to say, I do not do that any more.

I've been in classes where folks who have been through many training classes (this one was actually a Fed LEO) still make that mistake. This was actually a failure to chamber a round and went "click" on first round in a timed challenge. Not once, but twice. He went for a run after the second time. ;D
I think folks get so focused on other things and forget the basics of stuff like loading, trigger control, etc. I guess why you often seen even veteran competition guys DQ or do potentially unsafe things from time to time as their mind seems to get sucked into the task at hand (shooting) and they forget other stuff. For me, also stresses the importance of drilling those basics to be performed with "unconscious competence" (as a wise instructor says) so that you can focus on the truly "important" tasks.

Yea, I keep my ready AR mags loaded to 28 or 29 as trying to put the mag into the gun with 30 and a closed bolt requires you to firmly bang on the bottom of the mag and then rip at it to see if its in there good or not. In a stressful situation, it would be very easy to overlook that without training past it.
I really dont like that 5 round limit at all - I just dont like limitations in general maybe, but often times you wont have problems with a magazine until the thing is fully loaded to capacity and down-loading the mag is one way to hide/avoid functioning issues. I'd rather have my problems at the range with a full mag than at home with a full mag when it counts.

Well, midway through the course of fire, can't seat the mag no matter how hard I try. Luckily that was only for two out of my 6 mags. I used to usually load with an open slide (or open bolt for AR), so that can hide stuff like that too.

Were those mags originally standard capacity (12 rounds) that were blocked to Hawaii's legal max of 10? If so, how were they blocked? For the majority of the mags that I have that were blocked, a stick of plexiglass was epoxied on the underside of the follower. That can be filed down pretty readily. I started to do that to the PPQ mags, but ended up just using the 10 round factory mags that seem to be able to be depressed about the height of 1/3 of a round past the 10th round. I was planning on filing the stick that blocks the mag to get it to match the height of the factory 10 round mags.
For my blocked CZ mags, I think the follower hits a depression added to the tube of the mag. In that case, I didn't want to try altering the follower itself. If that's the case for your wife's M&P9c, I'd say I would 50/50 modifying it or just living with it.
Wouldn't be an issue if Hawaii went with standard capacity mags. . . :( >:(

On a side note, armed mall security and plain clothes cop stopped the robbery. Who all 7 are illegal immegrants.
Security could have been killed if they wanted to. He didnt check his corners. PD did and saw 1 guy.
