Went to the 9th Island and got to enjoy freedom for a week (CCW).
Realized that carrying AIWB is a real pain in the ass. Especially when you have to pee or crap due to pistol being in the way and the belt buckle being off set. I would rather carry at the 4 o'clock, but due to gambling/crowds, I like to have the pistol in my front. When I play, I lean forward so carrying at the 4 position would print majorly. Also if I were to carry 24/7, I would carry something smaller than a VP9. But for only 1 week, it's do-able.
Seen a motorcycle cop with an AR attached to the side of his bike sticking straight up (like a flag), but muzzle down, no mag. That was interesting.
Went to Bass Pro and 1 guy was OCing and had to check his firearm. When he took the mag out, he had trouble racking the slide back. Took about 6 seconds or so. He had no round in the chamber. Thought to myself he might be screwed if he had to rack the slide under stress or with 1 hand. He should really be carrying with a round in the chamber. It was a Glock 43X.
Noticed the Nike Outlet at Premium Outlet North had 2 Metro cops at the entrance. I guess they get a lot of theft.
Other than that, never had any issues CCWing for the week.
Went to Battlefield LV and they have a new thing where you can shoot a machine gun from a chopper. Shooting at either steel, cars, and planes in the desert. $450 for 125rds with a SAW. They're working on a mini gun.
While I was there, met an Englishman from northern England. He was there to shoot. He was military and fought in the Ireland war or something. And he said even he's not allowed to own a gun. He and many of his army buddies have "replica" guns (airsoft). I asked him about the "no-go zones" and he confirmed and said the cops in England are useless. They and their government are too PC and cares more about being PC than protecting the people. He was pissed. Also said their "free healthcare" is a joke. But the people are getting more upset and starting to revolt.
The main takeaway was because I was allowed to carry, I didn't feel as scared and nether did Mrs.CMO. I'm walking around with $3K in cash and didn't feel like a potential victim. Or we drove through a shitty area and at the stop light or parking lot, didn't feel like a victim. Mrs. CMO was cashing out a lot and at 1 casino they had a guard at the cashier, but he was unarmed. So she looked over to me and asked "wtf is he gonna do? I feel safer with you, than the guard there".

Awesome!
One of my buddies did the helo shoot with the SAW. Saw the video and it looked awesome. Looked like a lot of fun.
What casinos did you go? I see some with armed security and some without. We stayed at the Venetian last trip and the parking lot was huge and seemed like many opportunities for folks to get jacked, but security there seems decent. Some of the station casinos on the otherhand. . . :shake:
Glad that you enjoyed the freedom to protect yourself in a manner that you see fit.

We as in my buddy and I. Not trying to hit on or relate to CMO, at least not like that. . .
And I give myself a +1

We stayed at Palazzo, but same same. Some armed, some not. Noticed many had an "OD Kit" attached to their belts. I guess it's that much of an issue there. Yeah their lot even at Palazzo is very dark and isolated (no security patrolling). But because I'm armed, not too concerned. Just kept the head on a swivel. But the worst lot I would say is Circus Circus. It's in cholo gang control from what a Metro told me. So valet if going there.

Awesome. Yup, earlier in the year I was in Vegas & Arizona. Greatest feeling in the world being able to CCW.
That’ll never happen here smh.

"Never" is a long time... though given the (lack of?) mentality of Hawaii voters I'm guessing you're correct in terms of an "unforced" legislative change.
You don't think that once SCOTUS makes a ruling or two and Young is finally decided that we all won't be open carrying wherever we want? Oh, ye of little faith...

I've noticed the comments on FB have changed a lot since about 1-2 years ago regarding ccw and guns. Prior to this year most comments were anti 2a and HI doesn't need guns, blah blah. Btu this year it flipped big time. Maybe cause FB not editing comments anymore, or the people are getting sick of criminals having the upper hand?
-
I want to get a smaller handgun to CC than my G19. The Springfield Hellcat looks interesting. I will be going to Vegas for 2 weeks in April.

Awesome! Palazzo is a nice! I've stayed there and Venetian many times, but mostly Venetian since that's were I got comps. Was always intrigued by the security when you enter the property. I recall they used to look closer at the drivers coming in than they did in when I went in July.
I've heard the Stratosphere area is pretty ghetto. That and those areas just outside downtown, on the edges of the renovated areas.

Many gun people on IG were sent a very nice package for the Hellcat. Nice case, holster, mags, and nice box. So the running joke is Hellcat will get good reviews like all other guns get. And many didn't mention they got the gun for free. It's Springfields marketing program. They're giving it away like candy.

Free is good. I gladly take one for free. Only 1 inch wide and standard is 10+1 or 12+1 extended.
-
Im not interested in all that Springfield drama. I just like functional guns do what they do in their category. I'm pretty sure you can just stuff a tiny rock or something in the magazine to legally block it to 10 rounds
I'm thinking about getting one to try out against my P365. I want Glock to quit being boring and cut some meat off the G26 to compete. I'm a Glock Guy ***Dives for Cover***
-
I like Glocks too but the G19 with 15+1 plus the thickness gets uncomfortable after a couple hours carrying it IWB. Don't notice it with a OWB holster. S&W has a new subcompact that just came out to compete with the Hellcat. Gotta check both of them out.
-
How about the IWI Masada?

Yes, the only comfortable place to carry mine is appendix but having to use a bathroom stall to take the rig off just to take a leak gets old real quick. Carrying a G19 9 o'clock just doesn't feel right cause it bulges out so much (I wear lite clothing). Which is why the last time I went to Vegas I just carried the P365 9 o'clock. Almost forgot it was there when I dropped my pants back in the hotel LMAO. Hope it's drop safe for that very reason.

You know, I've always told myself I would like to expand my experience with other striker fired mid to full sized guns other than a Glock. But every time I go into the store thinking I'm gonna either adopt a CZ P10, SIG 320, S&W M&P, etc. I've walked out with a receipt for another Glock
I have a problem lmao. It's probably just because I just have too much mags and spare parts for the brand. I buy Glock and AR mags and parts like my wife buys clothes she never uses.
One day I'll do it I swear!

The P10C is one of my favs. I like the aggressive grip for my sweaty palms. And the trigger is on par with the VP9.

This came in handy. Prior the mag was sticking straight up and gets in the way when setting or bending.(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20191004/7a26681a10476200129c7d922bcc412a.jpg)

I’ll be following your lead soon. I am moving to AZ and will be less than a 4 hour drive to LV. I’ll be looking for places to try fully automatic fun in AZ first but my wife and I plan to visit LV at least a few times a year. So I’ll be doing some full auto shooting one way or another. We are not gamblers but enjoy the shows mostly. If we want to gamble there are plenty of casinos in AZ. Freedom for me also means being able to conceal carry everywhere I go.

Been working on the wife to consider this in the Prescott area, high enough to not be a broiler like Phoenix. Hard sell so far, she is spooked by the temperatures summer and winte, likes her ocean viewr.
Were i wealthy enough, would buy an inexpensive home there to store things out of reach of the HPD. Dunno about security if not physically there though.

When we were there a couple of months ago it was 115 in Phoenix and 90 in Prescott/Prescott Valley. Prescott Valley has the better home prices right now. And some very nice subdivisions. Including one or two with extremely low HOA (I think $7/mo). Also plenty of older subdivisions with no HOA. I think crime is average there. I am lucky to have family out in Phoenix that all recommended Prescott. If we can’t live Hawaii I think this is the next best area for us. Let me know if you ever convince the wife.

Damn man. The way things are going with work now, I’m tempted to move to that area, get a house and work as menial job and just enjoy life. My buddy is somewhere in the Phoenix burbs and has a 3000 st ft house with pool for around 1/2 of what my current place is assessed at. So since I owe about 1/2 the value 🤔

Another of my nephews had moved to Phoenix a few years ago. He went to work for the AZDOT. Decided he wanted to move back to Utah after a year or two. They offered to let him telecommute. I think he still has to travel to Phoenix once a month. He feels he has the best of both worlds. Didn’t know that government agencies have that type of opportunity.
AZ isn’t the best state in the republic, but they offer a lot that Hawaii does not. For instance, when I sell my house here I will have a chunk of equity that I will use to pay down my mortgage in Prescott. We bought a more expensive home in Prescott than we planned on. I will recast my loan with the same terms but based on less than $50k mortgage. It will only take me 3 or 4 years to pay that off, if not less. If we had not bought a more expensive house, we would be able to pay off the house instead. If you want to buy in the Phoenix area, I would suggest somewhere on the outskirts. I just bought an investment home in Mesa for under $250k. It’s a very nice house in a nice neighborhood. It is a 3 bed/2 bath, 1600 sq ft, 2 story, 20 yrs old. Not much land but I prefer that for a rental. Not sure what you are looking for, but it sounds like you have already started to consider. If you don’t already have an agent in Phoenix, I have a terrific one I can recommend.
AZ also does not tax my retirement income. Gas is a little above average but prices on other things are less than Hawaii like electricity, water, etc. Fresh fish is hard to come by. If you don’t mind desert living you can live even farther out and not be around a lot of people like where we are moving to. But, AZ has very expensive healthcare prices. They are still on the Obamacare debacle. They were one of the states where Obamacare prices went up 100% in one year. But I’ll put up with it for 3 years until I qualify for Medicare. One thing I noticed during my commuting around Phoenix is little to no graffiti on the freeways. Everything that is supposed to be green was green and not brown.
Dustoff moved to AZ and we continue to stay in touch. He and his wife are having a house built for them currently. We will be meeting for shooting and talk story after I move.
-
Mrs.CMO wants to check out AZ 1 day. Maybe next year do a few days in Vegas and a few in AZ. We are definitely retiring somewhere in the mainland, but 30 years is a long time and things can change.

Why is the VP9 not comfortable for you AIWB? I have no problem carrying appendix and it is my preferred and really only position I carry. I have several holsters and I've come to the conclusion that there's a big difference with "cheap" and quality holsters. I use separate firearm and magazine so I can do #1 with little problem. When I use my holster that has them both together, I use a closed stall to go #1 so I can take it out (the holster that is). That holster is looking to get upgraded shortly. Restroom visits are not a problem for me.
You might have to try carrying at different positions AIWB. Instead ot straight 12 o'clock, try 1 o'clock and at a angle. Try deeper or shallower heights at home to see what feels best and prints to a minimal. For me muzzle right at the "V" bend of my right hip joint is super comfortable. I also add padded, adhesive neoprene to the backsides of my holsters. Super comfortable and adds grip so holster doesn't rise on a draw. Sometimes I forget it's there. My magazine I prefer at 8 o'clock and blade is at 11 o'clock.
I would carry a larger firearm like a G19, like many do, but I'm skinny AF. I can still conceal my double stack and 30 rounds no problem.
I have never felts unsafe or fearful when travelling. I don't carry because I'm scared or afraid, I carry because I can and to be prepared.

For me, Northern AZ, Southern Utah are good substitutes for the islands. Tho it is hard to write that there could ever be a substitute for the islands. CA, OR and WA are no longer friendly to me. Hell, I'd even move to LV before I would move to the left coast. LV is a nice place to visit but I don't want to live there. There are areas of NV I would also consider.
If you do ever check out AZ I recommend you explore northern area like Flagstaff, Jerome, Prescott, etc. My wife and I are actually pretty excited about living there amid our sorrow about leaving the islands.

Will do. We would want a place that's a close enough drive to Vegas. Like 4hrs or less. 6hrs seems to long.

Prescott and Prescott Valley is 3.5-4 hours to LV. I don't like driving much more than 5-6 hours at a time, either. So other areas around Northern AZ would be similar drive times.
-
Utah and Texas were others that I looked into, which is saying a little more than "what if" mind games and talking to folks that live there and stuff. Don't see it happening any time soon, especially with most family here and good job, but those motivations are diminishing. I also have more friends doing the Vegas thing. Maybe if I could make it as a pro poker player. . . :geekdanc:
