Title: Alternative Activities?
Post by: oldfart on March 21, 2020, 08:48:58 AM
The range is closed. What are you doing instead of shooting?
Since the range is closed, I don't need to load more ammo now. I may host a bullet casting seminar if I get really bored though.
For the most part, I'm sheltering in place and I told my kids to do the same. So no weekend family activities for a while.
Here is my to do list:

vacuum
wash dog
cut bamboo
wash car
laundry
weed wack yard
and much much more

If you your place, now is a great time to get supplies and add some sweat equity to your place.

Also,  weed whacking.

Ineffective? It’s genius. First line of defense is the the “holy shit she’s hot” response that will cause a pause in an attack, providing valuable time for reactions, separation, etc.

If the attacker is a gay male or 56 “other gender”, then quicker draw.  :P

When I need to unwind, I watch youtube. Most of the members are well aware of the many firearm/2a videos on youtube.
It also has some of the best music videos.
Here is one of my favs. Local artists Taimane and John Cruz are featured in it.

Taimane is awesome.  First heard about her watching the Don Ho funeral.   To me, she is way better than Jake.  Her playing is clean, like Herb Ohta Jr.

Thanks OF.

If anyone is interested in the pipe frame, check out "Makerpipe"  they have a bunch of different fittings to assemble 3/4" EMT conduit.  The applications are pretty much limitless, of course within the restraints of the structural properties of the thin wall pipe.  I've done a few other projects with it and have a few more in mind.

Amazon had the Plano ones on sale last week.  The prices seem to fluctuate week by week.  They had the larger and smaller "field boxes" for around $7-10.

I just check Amazon.  Most of the Plano ones are reported as "Get it as soon as Tue, Apr 21".  Wow!  Guess people have been buying up ammo boxes too. . .

I am not in the least bored staying home.  Got a 3 acre lot surrounded by vacant lots.  Can shoot, clear more area, build stuff, make hidden storage spots outside of my lot in the forest, start my hydroponic garden, endless things to do.  Plus I like staying home.

I wonder how many apartment dwellers are going to get fat with nothing to do but watch TV and snack.

I did some cutting of vegetation around my house yesterday.  I have two large, over-stuffed tarps to haul.

I called Hawaiian Earth Products where we drop off our green waste for recycling to make sure their hours haven't changed for the situation.

The woman who answered said they were told 2 days ago they are not accepting drop-offs from residential customers.   :wtf:

Only municipal/curb side pickup trucks can drop off now.

This is crazy.  There is nowhere to put this waste, and it'll get more decayed and become a huge mess to haul in a month or more.

The employees don't even have to come into contact with us.  There's a window they open, and you talk to them from your truck.  It's at least 6 feet of separation.  In fact, if they don't have to say anything, they can leave the window shut and just wave you through.

Totally unacceptable.  You know people will be doing yard work during the lockdown.

I've got enough cuttings as it stands now for at least 8 curbside bins.  If I used my regular can, too, it'll take 4 pick-ups to get rid of what I have, not counting all I need to cut still.

Pickup is every other week, so that's 8 weeks to get rid of this stuff -- the green can pickup was yesterday, so the clock is reset for 2 weeks from now.

My place hasn't been this clean and organized in a LONG time!

I need to go through my shooting parts and accessories and find what I could use, what I could give away, and what I should flat out dump. Sometimes I find that I need a part or something and I think I have it.  Go searching for it and when I don't find it, end up buying another.  Then months later, while looking for something else, I'll find the item that I needed months before.

That is one thing I loved about moving to the BI.  I had 7500 sf lot in Kailua, now I have a 130,680 sf lot.  I cleared an area of about 8000 sf solely to dump green waste.  With a backhoe to push and stack the debris, it should last for years.  A mound I made about 3 years ago is covered with grass, taro and banana trees growing on it.

My plot is 60x100.  The house and 32x18 inground pool use up most of that.

Still, I seem to have a never-ending battle keeping the plant life in check.

Not driving from Mililani to Kailua just to make a green waste run.

The Schofield convenience center station stopped accepting green material when the Hawaiian Earth Products recycler started.

I'll try calling the Waialua convenience center on the North Shore tomorrow.  They ought to still take green waste.  Still a drive, but I've done it before when the Schofield center was full.

I didn’t figure you would.
That’s why I also mentioned Kawailoa.

Although a long cruise doesn’t sound terrible just to get in the cruise and out of the house in a safe environment. ( the car)
And you get the bonus of accomplishing something at the same time.

Just dug the dirty rusty old combloc pistol parts out of the forgotten box and soaking them in cola. There may be a rattlecan refinish in the near future.

Also for aspiring musicians Fender Play is offering free music lessons for 3 months if you want to learn Guitar, Bass, or Ukulele

There is a transfer station in waipahu near the police academy.
It's fairly close to mililani.
Depot road.

I sent an email to the contact address on the OPALA.ORG website.  Got a call from the assistant director there this morning.

After confirming some details, he called the same number I did yesterday, and he was told they are accepting residential dumping.   :wtf:

He said he even used his non-work cell so they didn't know he was calling from the office.  I guess he anticipated they might have a slightly different answer for the city & county that pays them lots of money to be open than they might have for the public.

Can't say enough good things about this guy, Kelly.  I never expected to have my complaint answered so quickly or for the problem to be resolved in less than a day.

I know the person I talked to was clear about having turned people away trying to drop off green waste Saturday and Sunday.  Nothing in the conversation could have possibly been misunderstood, so it's odd they told me what they did.

I even gave Kelly the phone number I called directly from my RECENTS list on my cell phone.  So, there's little to no chance he and I called different facilities.

Weird.

Watched 68W. Was somewhat entertaining. I thought from the previews it was gonna be more serious.

We really enjoy Lego Masters. It's not just who builds the coolest stuff, there are stories and rules to follow for each episode.

I thought about 68W also was gonna be more serious, but guess not.  Their technical advisor sucks. 1 big thing that bothers me is that they act more like PJ's.

1 part they did get correct are the sex scenes.  My buddy and the chick he was banging would  do it in the blackhawk.

reloaded some 44magnum over the weekend
running out of ammo boxes to store all the reloads.  I never really have time to reload, I guess sort of a positive that I can reload more due to sheltering in place.  but if I had the choice i'd rather do something else like shoot. I have 2 more boxes to store reloaded ammo. after that i'll just put in a plastic container.
that's about the last of my AA#9 powder too.  good thing I got a few more containers of powder that I haven't opened yet.  and plenty projectiles.   O0

My sisters activity has been trying to keep a Journal since being locked down.

My Covid 19 journal

Day 1 - I can do this !! Got enough food and wine to last a month !

Day 2 - Today I tried to make hand sanitizer. It came out as jello shots !!

Day 3 - Opening my 8th bottle of wine. I fear wine supplies might not last !

Day 4- - Went to a new restaurant called "The Kitchen".
You have to gather all the ingredients and make your own meal.
I have no clue how this place is still in business.

Day 5 - Strawberries - Some have 210 seeds, some have 235 seeds. Who knew !

Day 6 - I get to take the garbage out. I'm so excited, I can't decide what to wear.

Day 7 - If you keep a glass of wine in each hand, you can't accidentally touch your face.

Day 8 - Ran out of wine, hitting the hard's. Laughing way too much at my own jokes.

Day 9 - Struck up a conversation with a spider today. Seems nice. He's a web designer.

Day 10 -  I put liquor bottles in every room.
Tonight I'm getting all dressed up and going bar hopping.

Day  11 - Isolation is hard. I swear my fridge just said "What the hell do you want now?".

Day 12 - I realized why dogs get so excited about something moving outside, going for walks or car rides.
I think I just barked at a squirrel.

Day 13 -8 pm. Removed my day pajamas and put on my night pajamas.

Day 14 - Watched birds fight over a worm, Cardinals lead the Blue Jays 3-1

Day 15 - Anybody else feel like they've cooked dinner 395 times this month ?

got around to reloading these Hornady 225 grain FTX 44magnum loads with H110
I read that the BC isn't as good as the regular XTP, but I got them on sale a while back and now I have the time to reload these, but can't test them yet bc our leaders don't give a crap about opening the shooting range
good thing is I reloaded a bunch of ammo in the past several weeks, but can't shoot um.
its like modifying a car to race, but no race track to test it on.  well, that one's been waiting to reopen for the past 14 years.  I hope kokohead isn't heading down the same path

Problem is I have to unpack everything else in the house before I can get around to my reloading equipment. Gotta keep the wife happy.

I'm the "Ahhhh, tomorrow...…" type of guy.  I lazy.  I was an electrician before I retired and worked very hard at my craft but when it comes to home projects...…."Ahhhh tomorrow...…"  Which stretched for days, weeks, months...…

My wife used to joke that she needed to hire an electrician everytime she needed to do something done with the house.  The last thing I wanted to do in my house is electrical work.  Or anything for that matter.  Just so tired from work neva like do nothing on days off.

But now I nomo excuse.  The fluorescent light was not working good in the kitchen.  I went to put on my tool pouch.

I couldn't put my belt on.  I came too fat.

"Ahhhh tomorrow...…." ;)

i'm sure it wont be long until you're reloading again. since you're in a free state now and may need a holster, I think Simply Rugged is around your parts, although idk exactly your parts is.   ;D  they make some good looking leather holsters

I was looking at Milt Sparks. But they are behind at least 3 months. I just went to Sportsman’s Warehouse yesterday. I’ll look for that brand next time I go. I only spent $80 but I was drooling the whole time!

I mounted my two presses today. But I think I am going to change their locations on my bench. I still have a lot of stuff to unpack before I can get started. Still have my bookcase and books to move into the room. I need a chair as well. I’ll try the folding chairs I have but I know I won’t be comfortable after a while.

I always used Fanny pack or small of the back carry.
Used shoulder carry for years,
but it always was a pain.
I always carry a multi tool
so side holster is not an option.
I can shoot left or right handed.
But as I age lefty shooting is a little slower.
Cataracts.

I would love to have one or more of their holsters. With a nice revolver or 1911, would make a great bbq rig. But since I'm in the 808 theres no practical reason to order one. But if were in a free state, I would splurge on one of their holsters

But I did just buy one of their ready to ship 1911 belt slide bull hyde holsters. With 20% off it was only $40, so why not  :shaka:
