Make it higher  :shaka: :geekdanc:

More gas costs the better alternatives look.

... and the more everything we all consume will cost including Hawaii electricity.

Alternatives are not available NOW for EVERYONE.  Wishing it to be so won't magically make them appear.

Coming out of a pandemic with high inflation and unemployment on top of uncontrolled gov't spending is not the time to voice support for higher gas prices.

That's just ridiculously stupid.

But, we all know you can't include all factors in your opinions.  You have a one track mind when it comes to the Extreme Left agenda.

Maybe if you are so concerned with the environment, YOU should sell your gas-consuming car?  Oh, wait!  Your opinions stop where your hypocrisy begins.

1-D Chess.

If we raise the price of gas enough, everybody will buy new, more expensive electric vehicles.  In Hawaii, you spend another $30K for solar, or you pay the high electricity prices to charge your new "green" car.

That doesn't even address the myriad of problems higher prices for gas brings.  I lived through the 70s.  Spending all day in a line to get gas hoping they didn't run out is not fun!

I worked in the office that pays people/businesses to install more energy efficient products.  The cardinal rule:  you have to make sure the money spent saving energy is LESS THAN the cost of the energy saved.  It makes zero financial sense to save $100/month in energy if doing so costs you $125/month.

In other words, if I pay $10,000 more for an EV than a comparable gas-only car, at $3/gal, I can afford 3,333.33 gallons of gas with the money I save not buying an EV.  If I get 25 MPG, I can drive 83,333.25 miles.  That gives me 6.9 years worth of driving at an average 12K mi/yr.  In summary, at $3/gal and 12K mi/yr driving, it would take me 6.9 years of driving an EV to break even compared to driving the gas car.

Now, add the cost of generating the electricity to charge the EV, any EV-unique repair costs like replacing batteries, etc.  That pushes the break-even point even further down the proverbial road.

Liberals have no problem forcing "the other people" to spend their money in pursuit of their dreams.  Just don't ask them to spend their own money and leave the rest of us free to make that choice ourselves.

At least Tesla sort of solved their battery problem. When they first came out, it was 1 huge battery at the bottom of the car. Now they're like 12 smaller batteries.  And if replacing does need to be done, you probably won't have to replace all 12, but maybe 3 or 4 after about 8 years.  Where as the 1 single battery life span was about 6 years.  Or if it were to be damaged, then it would cost about $30K to replace the entire unit. Compared to $1-$2K for each battery unit now.  Then enter the newer battery that he invented that is not yet being used on the cars that has an even longer life span.

Also to be eco friendly, the seats are not leather, but pleather (fake leather).

My condo has a EV charging station that cost about $2 for 25 miles.  So about half the cost of gas.

I'm looking into Dogecoin. BTC is out of my budget.  It would be a long term investment (3+ years).  The part that bothers me is the IRS ask if you have ever bought, traded, acquired, sold, etc... crypto as the first question on the 1040.  So if you say no and later report a taxable sale, they got you on perjury.

Right now, most crypto is not trackable by the IRS.  You can request a 1099 from the broker, but they don't report to the IRS.

Force everyone including myself to find alternatives.  Good in my book. Like you said, there are many variables.  Make gas more, so alternatives are cheaper.   Progress ain't free.  The environment has prices too.  Look at recent storms costing people BILLIONS.

Also to be eco friendly, the seats are not leather, but pleather (fake leather).

My condo has a EV charging station that cost about $2 for 25 miles.  So about half the cost of gas.

Exactly.  So, if you got FREE electricity to recharge your car, my example requires a 6.9 year break-even period.

Tack onto that another $2/25 mi cost (your example), and you get:

12K mi per yr / 25 mi per $2 = 480 charges per year

480 charges per year * $2 = $960/yr

So, now you have  to save another $960/yr to break even above the $10,000 premium you paid for the EV.  By the time you hit the break-even for the $10K at 6.9 years, you'll have paid another $6,762 to operate your EV.

Looking at it another way, if we subtract the $2 you pay for charging from the $3 in gas you save (both dollar amounts are for 25 miles, so that's convenient), you are really only saving $1 per 25mi.  Plugging that into my earlier calculations:

That's now 10,000 gallons of gas you can buy at $1/gal, and you can drive 25mi * 10K gal = 250,000 miles, or 3 times the original distance calculated.  Divide that by 12Kmi/year, and ...

at $1/gal (gas price less what I would pay for EV charging) and 12K mi/yr driving, it would take me 20.83 years of driving an EV to break even compared to driving the gas car.

Fun Fact - California Laws preventing standard forestry maintenance to 'protect wildlife' end up creating uncontrolled wildfires that pump massive amounts of carbon into the atmosphere, more than all of the cars in the state.

"fires emitted an estimated 79.6 million metric tons of carbon dioxide in California this year through September 14.  These Carbon emissions contribute to long-term heating of the planet, particulate-matter pollution can cause health problems both in the short and long term. Smoke from California’s wildfires is affecting air quality thousands of kilometers away, with Copernicus satellites showing the smog spreading across the U.S. and parts of Canada."

"California cars emit 76.4 million tons (not metric) of carbon dioxide annually"

FEDCOIN...

All the manipulation of a fiat currency, with the added benefit that the government knows every one of your transactions and can shut off your citizenry switch any time it wants.

On the no-fly list for encouraging critical thinking with your social media comments? No guns or ammo for you, Mr Deplorable.

Should have voted Democrat and done what you were told!

The current US dollar is already "digital".  Jokes on everyone.

"Digital" banking, investment and payment accounts are not the same as "crypto currency."

"Cryptocurrencies work using a technology called blockchain. Blockchain is a
decentralized technology spread across many computers that manages and
records transactions. Part of the appeal of this technology is its security."

Meant as in not backed by something tangible like silver.  US dollar is just paper.  So hence the "digital" in quotations, not to be combined with crypto digital.

Oh, okay.

The value of the US dollar is effectively based on what buyers of the currency are willing to pay.  Since US Dollars are required for things like OPEC oil purchases, etc., the dollar will remain in demand unless and until the standard currency shifts to another -- like crypto?

The point is when they take away the paper they also take away your privacy and right to exist.

Privacy is only used to justify abortions and people who hide their true identities on Internet forums.

Imagine how much fun surfing the 2ahawaii.com classifieds will be when the government tracks the purchase of every last shell, part, and accessory.

At the moment it takes a bit of detective work, and someone can always log in with a disposable email and a vpn. Having a searchable database of every transaction ever is a whole different ball o wax

I actually agree,  privacy is important.  No central database.  Though with crypto they have traceable and untraceable versions.

tractableadj.
     1. easily managed or controlled; docile; yielding:
a tractable child; a tractable disposition.
     2. easily worked, shaped, or otherwise handled; malleable.

A vocabulary is a wonderful thing.

But then, so is PROOFREADING!!
