maybe you want to carry a 45acp for ccw or for HD
my HD pistol is a XDm in 45 acp with 4.5" barrel. it has been super reliable over the past 10 years.
recently got a couple boxes of these to feed the XDm or my Springfield Operator

Hey I got the same gun lol. Whatever you do, dont buy wolff guide rod. Its a p.o.s. and it'll break. Then they wont replace it. Lol. I got some 185g critical defense. I really wanna get some HST's but I think I'll just use this pistol for range use.

If I carried my little colt, I would use ball.
230 gr ball would seriously demoralize a perp

I think so.
45ACP has long been documented as a manstopper, even with ball ammo. While I do have 45ACP HPs, I wouldn't hesitate to use ball ammo, if that's all I had.
The smaller 9mm, I think, is more prone to tinkering with bullet weight, composition, and bullet configuration (JSP, HP, etc. etc.)
for an "ideal manstopper".

Dunno. I used to see them in the "corner stores" when I was in college.

right next to the Schlitz malt liquor, i bet
I remember Crazy Horse malt liquor. I recently looked it up and made by same guys that make Arizona Ice tea. I think they got sued by some Indian tribe so now they only make the ice tea
but i remember those malt liquor beers tasted pretty nasty
but the 40 oz would only cost like 1.75-1.99 per bottle, so if you on a budget not a bad choice. went well with a 7-11 hot dog with chili. a meal and a 40 oz for about $3 back in the day. late 80's early 90's

Ya. Right next to the Old E and Mickeys (8ball)
IIRC, Colt 45 was 0.99, when I was in college. haha

In my younger days it made me fall down every time!

I like to watch reviews of the XTP's bc I have a lot of them for reloading, so it's nice to see that they do fairly well for something is very readily available
the HST does really well at expansion, the XTP fairly good expansion but not nearly as good as HST or GD, but XTP does penetrate more
I would say the XTP is a good backup projectile after the GD and HST

I have some time while in covid isolation.
So let me elaborate.
My little colt is a nifty officer's model.
I have vetted it in competition and therefore trusted it enough to carry on a mainland trip.
The old 1911 geometry was never designed to feed hollow point ammo.
So when I shot it in competition, I only used 230 gr. RN.
It performed reliably and accurately as well. In fact, there was actually a stage where the IPSC target was set at about 40 or 50 yards.
The time limit was generous enough to allow me to drop to the roll-over prone position and engage.
The RO was impressed with the hits. LOL
IIRC I actually won a pretty nice prize for that match.
The point I'm trying to make is that the old 1911 platform is a fine defensive pistol, but I would never trust it with hollow point ammo.
I would trust the newer generation of polymer 45 auto pistols with HP ammo. They seem to have better feed geometry.
I encourage everyone to vet their defensive pistol with actual hollow pt ammo or at least a reasonable facsimile thereof.

I just bought some JHP ammo and some JHP bullets to reload.
we'll see how it does in my 1911's but I really got it for my polymer 45's. but I want to see how it feeds in my 1911's too

you got a chrono, yeah?
recoil impulse absolutely affects feed reliability

yes, I have a chrono. but haven't used it yet. too lazy to set it up. :D
but I should use it
I got 45acp gold dot 230grain and HST 230 grain, and some projectiles on the way 230 grain JHP and 185 grain JHP
also got some XTP 200 grain that I have not tried yet
also got a butt-load of Montana gold 230 grain JHP that I haven't tried yet. I had it for years
plenty of 45acp brass. I'm tripping over all the supplies in my bedroom. too much buying and not enough reloading :shaka:

===================
you could do a little science project like what I did for the 9mm gold dots.
Dissect, test and duplicate
I did that for 45 mil ball many years ago too.
I settled on about 5.8 gr 231/hp38 to simulate mil ball ammo.

I have 231 and hp38 and titegroup and accurate #5
I'll do the project bc I love me some 45acp. 'Murica! 🇺🇸
