Anybody else?
Just being nosey.

Power back after exactly 1 hour.
Probably a planned outage.

I have the HECO Android App on my phone. The power here in Mililani was out a couple weeks ago from about 9:00pm until midnight, give or take.
I got ZERO notices from HECO. I did, however, get notices from the Spectrum app telling me their network was down at the beginning of the power outage, and that they were up again when the power came on.
The HECO app is useful if you use it to REPORT or view existing outages, but the notifications suck. You can also view your bill on it.
Just something to look into if interested.

i saw on IG that the orthodontist office near you had a power outage too...

I'll just blame Joe Biden for this one.

Hawaii gets last shipment of coal: Expect to pay more

As KHON2’s Always Investigating reports, replacement power projects are
behind schedule due to unexpected global events with supply chain issues,
so Oahu residents should prepare to pay even more for electricity this fall.
In the meantime, consumers can either cut back on power, try solar and
batteries, or pay more for oil-generated power — which costs as much as
five times more than coal.
LOL! "Unexpected!?" If it's a Hawaii-run project, any delay and cost overrun is 100% EXPECTED!
Trust the government to solve all your problems. They almost never fail! [/barf]

Why not keep the coal plant operational until alternative energy is up and running?
Our politicians say: No can, too bad, too sad. They will not reverse their green agenda.
They helped to create this awful situation. Home owners will just have to suffer, renters will
pay more. Businesses will have to pass on the costs to consumers. Replacing one fossil fuel
(coal) with another more expensive one (OIL) is pupule.
Many nations all over the planet are switching to coal since it is the cheapest source of energy.
China has recently completed the world's largest clean coal power plant or so they claim.
The US is still shipping large amounts of coal to China. Germany, Austria, and other nations
have found the green agenda does not work and they will use more coal.
Mean while Putin is reducing energy sales to Europe.
Comparing the shut down of the coal fired plant in Kapolei to the worlds coal users is like
comparing a bucket of sand to Waikiki beach. Inflation is punishing everyone and higher energy costs
will cause even more suffering. Our local politicians lack the will and compassion to help the people
thru hard times like these.

Hawaii's infrastructure is crumbling. Green Energy not going work. The politicians talk sh*t but they dunno what they doing.
When the infrastructure collapses everybody going look at each other and point finger.

IIRC the Coal plant is switching to Diesel.
I don't give a shit about Honolulu
I hope y'all starve and can't even burn wood to keep warm.
What does piss me off is you think you rule all the islands.

When was the last time you spent any time somewhere other than your island?
I've been on Oahu since 1992, and I can't remember a single time I needed to burn cola, oil or wood to "keep warm."
Even though HECO corporation provides 95% of power in the state, each county has its own power production operations center. On Hawaii Island (that's "The Big Island" for anyone not keeping up), the operations are managed by HELCO. Those are the people responsible for your power plants. HECO is responsible for Oahu. I don't think either operations division tells the others what to do or what to charge. Your bill reflects the cost to produce and distribute electricity in Hawaii County. Oahu's problems have nothing to do with it.
BTW, HELCO is using wind and hydroelectric to "go green," whereas HECO/Oahu os creating a large number of solar farms to "go green" here.

What happens when climate change dictates that the wind dies and the sun won't shine.
Do we go back to coal and oil again? ;)

According to the extremists, we just die off, because we deserve it for causing the disaster.

A store that size should have backup power.

FYI watch the video about Hawaii Island elec. rates to rise 20%.
I feel your pain. Maybe you should have a cocktail.

My son lives about a half mile from that store.
When the power went out, he told me about the walmart store but his house (girlfriend's house) just blinked and his power was ok.
BUT...
He did not realize that the in-laws installed a tesla battery system and the house immediately switched over to battery power.
The house could run all day like that because the PV panels keep charging the batteries.
Pretty cool feature, but I don't think it's worth the expense unless outages become a frequent nuisance.

Already had the increase in June. My electric bill was $510 for August. I have 5 refrigerators and one freezer. I also run the washer and dryer 10 times a week because I have indoor dogs that pee and poop on washable pads. Still less than what my friend on Oahu is paying for his electric and water bill and he only has 2 fridges and does laundry only twice a week. I have no water or sewer bill.

As previously mentioned, my electric doubled and went from just over $100 to just under $200 (+92%) and I have Gas dryer, water heater and stove. :wtf:
TV, one fridge and one freezer on electric and I make it a point to turn off lights and computer stuff.

my electricity went up as well. I thought it was my usage and what I was pumping back into the grid but after checking the line items on my bill it was the Energy Recovery Cost (ERC). It went up 50% from last month which I believe is not under the purview of the PUC. THe ERC is what HECO pays to the energy vendors and it may fluctuate from month to month. If someone who has better knowledge than I please chime in.

Yes, that's right. There's a fixed amount per kWh the PUC (Public Utilities Commission) permits HECO to charge based on the various tariff codes. In order to charge for the fluctuations in fuel prices, they bill the ERC as a separate line item. You can theoretically use the exact same number of kWh per day over several 30-day billing cycles, yet the amount it costs can be different each month as fuel costs fluctuate.
In 2022, Oahu residential customers pay 32.47 cents per kWh.
Here are the non-fuel charges for residential customers (Schedule "R"):
CUSTOMER CHARGE:
Single-Phase Service - per month $11.50/month
Three-Phase Service - per month $20.50/month
NON-FUEL ENERGY CHARGE (To be added to Customer Charge)
First 350 kWhr per month-per kWhr 10.6812 ¢/kWhr
Next 850 kWhr per month-per kWhr 11.8347 ¢/kWhr
All kWhr over 1,200 kWhr per month - per kWhr 13.7121 ¢/kWhr
https://www.hawaiianelectric.com/documents/billing_and_payment/rates/hawaiian_electric_rates/heco_rates_sch_r.pdf
There are waivers and special needs programs, but for the majority, those are the base rates without the fuel charges.

That is a good article on the mess due to the green energy fiasco. Even after the KES is completed, we will be charging it with expensive oil.
Deep cycling will shorten the life span of the battery modules. It could cost a lot to keep the KES in operation, probably more than
just keeping the coal plant in operation.
