Andrea Ilima DeCosta who says she has a daughter killed by gun violence, has a different point of view. "Unless they can present us with a legal and reasonable rational as to why they want to have these things, then I think the current rules are reasonable," said DeCosta.
"What do you need more than 10 bullets for? what is going to be the benefit," asked DeCosta.
DeCosta disagrees. "In the time it takes to reload a firearm, they could take shelter," said DeCosta.
I think there's more to her story about "gun violence". It's a tragedy but she shouldn't be stating half-truths about her story.
-
Why do you need more than 10 rounds?
============
because bullets come in 50 (or 20) round boxes....duh

If this is true, then her next crusade will be to ban ANY gun that holds ANY rounds.
-
it's a mental health issue not a "gun violence" issue.
-
If she thinks mag capacity limits would have saved her daughter from a suicide, she's obviously unhinged.
I know of one schoolmate who used a shotgun to kill herself. Another used a revolver. Ammunition limits are irrelevant. You only need one round.
Cops that carry Glock 17s have 17 round mags. I see nothing to indicate why all gun owners need fewer than 17 -- unless she is insinuating we are all much better shots than the Cops.

I know of a classmate that hung herself. It's a slippery argumentative slope. If you try to clarify with her that it was not the gun's fault then emotions will take over and you will lose.

I want to know who DeCosta is, and why her opinion of what our gun rights should include matters.
Having a child commit suicide doesn't make one qualified to pass judgement on every law abiding gun owner and the things we own.
Googling, I find that name associated with a massage therapist and ordained marriage minister.

Is that all? She's not running for office or anything?
I wonder if the daughter was living at home with the mother at the time of her death. I also wonder who owned the gun, that common sense wasn't enough to keep it out of the daughter's hands.
Her daughter died in Georgia? And DeCosta's chyron title says "Gun Safety Advocate."
The way the news report was edited, it makes it sound like Georgia's concealed carry laws somehow contributed to the daughter's suicide. :wtf:
I personally give her no credibility for using the phrase "gun violence" in connection with a suicide. "Violence" invokes the image of one person injuring another. Self-inflicted gunshots are not "violence", no matter how desperately you try to make it so. Suicide is an act of self-destruction. Period. Would taking pills, using a rope or choking on car exhaust also be labeled "violence"? If not, then neither should suicide by gun. This behavior diminishes the seriousness of victims of actual violence -- with or without a gun involved.

Pill and rope violence. Gas exhaust violence? What no? Your words are violence! You are committing grammar violence!

Y'all ever seen the video of the mainland East coast cop that emptied his entire Glock mag within 3 meters of his target and missed every time?
I'll find it somewhere.
With these illegal unconstitutional CCW license requirements, the cops should be worried, we'll be better shots than they are.

This might be the reason hi-cap mags were introduced, lol! Law of averages. The more you shoot the higher chance of hitting what you're aiming at.
Hope you find that video and post it. It will make me feel better. Up to now I thought I was the worse shooter in the nation. At least now I know that's not true.

"Most of these have nothing to do with making people more safe," said Victor. Not everyone feels this way, Andrea Ilima DeCosta who says she has a daughter killed by gun violence, has a different point of view. "Unless they can present us with a legal and reasonable rational as to why they want to have these things, then I think the current rules are reasonable," said DeCosta.
What about you present a reasonable and rational reason or justification why I should not have those things?
Another example of irrational linking. What happened to her daughter is awful and perhaps tragic, but what does that have to do with magazine capacity?

She definitely blames the gun

Aloha and mahalo for allowing me the opportunity to submit this testimony regarding HB-31, which would require owners of firearms to safely store their firearms when anyone in the home is age 18 or younger.
On November 5, 2015, my adult daughter, Elizabeth, was found dead in her bathroom - she had been shot in the back of the head with her military spouse’s loaded and unlocked gun.
Raising the age of safe storage from 16 to 18 years of age would not have saved Elizabeth’s life.
Instead of laws targeting persons of a certain age, as a survivor of gun violence, I propose that a mandatory safe storage law for gun owners - regardless of age - as well as mandatory gun owner education and a gun owner liability law would do more to prevent access to lethal means and accidental deaths.
An owner of a firearm who knows that they can be held criminally and civilly liable for their failure to properly store their firearms would be more likely to take steps to secure their firearm(s) and mitigate their own liability.
It’s time to respect responsible gun owners and hold those who are negligent or irresponsible with their firearm(s) liable for their actions. Mahalo.
P.S. Zippz/HIFICO and the Public Defenders Office had some good testimony on this bill

Sounds like she's gonna run for office. Uses her situation to push an agenda, even though it's reaching.

Reaching? Not to make light of one's pain, but survivor of gun violence is more than a reach.

You see more of this on the news lately: Crowds of people will simultaneously assault a business and do the smash and grab on a large scale.
High capacity magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds will definitely make the crowd behave like good civilized people and even send some on their merry way towards nirvana, wherever that sh*t may be.

FIFY 8)
If a gun mfr intended 15, 17, 21, etc rounds, that's the standard and what we all should have access to.

Sounds like she blames the daughter's military spouse for not locking the gun away so the daughter couldn't access it.
Also, how common is it for someone who commits suicide with a gun to aim at the back of the head? Usually it's in the mouth or to the temple on the side in which they would hold the gun. Even if you turn your head, guaranteeing you have a sure and lethal aim point will be harder. If not having an open casket is a consideration, a round to the chest/heart is also popular.
What wasn't divulged is whether her daughter had a history of depression, mental illness, or suicide attempts. If so, and the spouse knew, then a case can be made for keeping the gun "safely stored and locked away." However, to assume an unlocked and loaded gun was the CAUSE of the suicide, not her daughter's state of mind, is just pure rationalization.
It's been ruled in court that laws requiring guns to be locked away are unconstitutional. Some states bypassed that by placing the welfare of minors (living or routinely visiting there) above 2A rights. With the new viewpoint via Bruen, that "safety first" justification will likely be challenged again.
If these people were really about safety, they would push for firearms training in public schools. Kids who are educated are usually safer and less likely to "play" with guns once they are exposed to them on a range. They are also more able to protect themselves at home should an emergency situation arise,

Why do govt and local LE can have more than 10 round magazines?

Had a German friend ask me why I own guns
I said “cause this is America”
He didn’t understand and moved back to Germany
Now his tiny town is overrun by young fighting age North African males and everyone is too afraid to come out at night because of all the rapes and violence
-
Politicians no need worry about getting raped, killed, mugged, or assaulted. They have their security detail to protect them and their loved ones. And their security detail has more than 10 rd mags, lol!!
That's why they can talk sh*t about gun control and all the BS that comes with it.

Germany and other European countries probably embraced the open borders ideology.

I had Australians ask similar. They were so proud how guns were banned years ago. I asked them about violent crime stats. They looked it up and showed steadily on the rise since the ban. . . :-X

anyways this "gun violence" moniker is so illogical. We need to push back on this stupid sensationalist term.
violence, an act of physical force that causes or is intended to cause harm. The damage inflicted by violence may be physical, psychological, or both. Violence may be distinguished from aggression, a more general type of hostile behaviour that may be physical, verbal, or passive in nature.

Suicide as tragic as it may be is a crime.
Mom raised a criminal.
I do not take advice from those who associate with criminals.
