First reading at council meeting at Honolulu Hale, 10:00 on Tuesday, 29 September.  Sounds like one minute per person for testimony.  If/when it gets to public reading, testimony time gets bumped to three minutes.

If this sensitive places bullsh*t passes, they should make it easier and tell us where we can CCW instead of telling us where we cannot.

It seems like nowhere.  So what's the point?  Rick the dick sure is slick.

And Tommy Watters can s**k it.

They are trying to grant licenses that will restrict you to where you can currently carry without a license.  Basically your home or place of business. The only difference is you will be able to legally carry a loaded gun between these places whereas now you cannot. They will say we are issuing CCW licenses in compliance with SCOTUS ruling, which they are not.  My whole take on the matter is I will go out of my way to avoid a confrontation.  Apologize even if the other person is wrong. But I will also do whatever it takes to save my life or that of a loved one or to prevent us from serious bodily harm. I will deal with the legal consequences after. Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

He is; his recommendation was to get max testimony, both written and in person, to show that firearm owners 1) care; and 2) are responsible, reasonable citizens.  Given the current composition of the council, he’s not very optimistic about getting bill 57 blocked or delayed, but his thought is the best chance we have is for the community to show up strong.

I agree with you.  I hope more people bring out the point that by essentially restricting CCW carry only to ones residence and place of business, they are violating the intent of the SCOTUS decision.

I hope more people question that if all of these places are proposed to be restricted, then where can a citizen legally CCW carry?  The answer is essentially nowhere.

I have questioned these points in my testimony and have pointed out other things.

I pointed out that in these restricted no gun zones, seconds matter when there is a mass shooter.  There is no way law enforcement will be able to respond in time to save lives.

I pointed out that it's high time they acknowledge that a responsible and vetted CCW holder can be an effective first line defense against these criminals.

I also stated that these measures only enable and embolden criminals.  I reiterated that these measures do not protect the public but actually puts them at the mercy of a criminal with a gun.

We need some people to come out on the 29th and do the 1 minute testimony.  Come out if you can, but don't take the day off work or school to do it.  I know not everyone can take the day off all the time.  You can do a zoom testimony if work allows.

We need everyone to show up for the committee hearing or 2nd reading in January.  That's more important.

There will also be a state capitol rally end of Jan or beginning Feb next year.

And we'll need people to show up to testify against the State sensitive places and other bills.

So manage your time appropriately.

I was dissapointed we only got 400 pro test for ccw. Compared to 1500 against rifle mag ban.

This pretty much sums up the testimonies who support the bill:

Lynne matusow "What I will do, as shown on many crime shows is if I see a gun, I will immediately SCREAM GUN, and continue to scream it"

Then there's the lady who still has to say her daughter committed suicide and is using the death to push more gun control.  She is now playing victim because she's afraid of CCW holders at protest because she is outnumbered when she goes to protest.

isn't that like watching a movie like Backdraft in a theatre and screaming FIRE FIRE every time a scene pops up?!

That lady is projecting her fears onto everyone else. Immature and dumb.

It would take one time of someone like her screaming at me for me to call 911, get her charged with terroristic threatening, and have a TRO filed against her.

I'd make sure to visit somewhere she frequents so she'd "accidentally" see me -- gives her a chance to win the trifecta with "Criminal Contempt of Court" for violating the TRO.

No. I was told to not say anything.  I do have the screen shot from her FB thanking Obama and 1 of her state testimonies for another bill that she mentions suicide.

Anyone else is welcome to do so though.

Breakdown so far:

1) Suicide ladies daughter was investigating a sex trafficking ring on a military base. So maybe it wasn't a "suicide".  She brought her daughters pic.
2) Mayor Rick was there testifying to support the bill.
3) Chief Logan was there as an observer.
4) Members called out since 2 just took their oath that mentions to not violate the constitution.
5) Had a lady who was raped and unarmed. She is against this bill. IMO, this is powerful testimony.
6) HIFICO director mentions the mayor won't be there in spandex and a cape to save people. Mayor was in the audience waiting to testify. Troll level 9999
7) Had 1 "empire" guy who is against guns and supports the bill. He mentions "go up and up".
8) Counsel hearing was diff than state hearings. They allowed clapping. They also allowed you to go slightly over the 1 min time.
9) Had lots of females testifying against this bill (they're pro 2a).

I listened to the meeting from the beginning up until they took a recess after about 5 or 6 Zoom statements.  The up and up guy's statement was probably one of the stupidest things I heard. In a SD situation you are not in some sporting match. On the street you need to take every unfair advantage you have to win.  Don't come at me holding only your dick. You are sure to lose.

Update:

6 ayes, 2 no's. Andria and Augie voted no. Val aye with reservations.  Bill passes to 2nd reading.  Lets see what changes they make.

Andria (Waianae) mentioned they only have 1 HPD officer per shift available.

Waters said he they should work with Andrew (HIFICO) and Cliffard Goo and some other pro 2a Atty (Holcomb?) to find common ground.

I'm glad they got called out.  A lot of politicians take the oath out of formality.  They have no intention to follow it literally.

Hell I don't even think they understand the importance of that oath.  They simply have their heads too far up their (and the democratic party's) a$$.

Mayor Rick Blangiardi submitted the measure for consideration, and said he understands the desire for protection.

“We also want to protect the public,” he said.

“And that’s why we are really strong on the sensitive places. I can’t rationalize ― with our society being what it is ― why you have to take a gun to the places that we’ve listed.”
Bill 57′s supporters say public safety comes first.

“You’re only going to cause problems by having more guns in the community. Simple as that. Look at Texas, look at Arizona, right? Hawaii is completely different from all these places,” said Alfred Keakahiona Medeiros.

Added Elna Nagasako, who also supported the bill:

“Please keep in mind that concealed gun laws don’t just involve people protecting themselves or others. They also apply to people who might be angry or intoxicated or for whom a gun could turn a bad situation worse,” she said.

Blangiardi knows that he will get re- elected. He doesn't care about the Constitution or about law-abiding citizens protecting themselves. His City administration can't protect us and he is OK with that. No range. Not enough police officers. I regret my vote for him.

I would suggest to them instead of Gun Free Zone signs maybe a Crime Free Zone sign would work better.

I regret voting for him too.  But I just couldn't vote for Amemiya.  Plus I thought Rick was a maverick with his own mind and won't be the same old same old politician that we have had for decades.

I'd bet that Amemiya would have done the same thing Rick is doing now.  Maybe worse if that's even possible.

Buy yeah, the topic brought up about people being intoxicated or angry of which a gun would make matters worse.  Typical crybaby excuse.  All we as a society has to do is draft laws that severely punish CCW holders who abuse their license.  And I do mean severe.  So severe that it will not make you think twice but 1000 times about the consequences.

Most CCW holders will never have to think about the consequences.  The laws are there for those borderline cases where they somehow slipped between the cracks.  Nothing is perfect, no matter how we try.

Rick is trying to be everything to everyone.  No can.  Can tell he has higher office on his mind.  Damn  citizens rights and the constitution.

Right now I feel the same thing about him.  With harsher words than "damn".

Rick was the lesser of 2 evils. We would still be in the same boat with Amemiya.  Because any GOP didn't have a chance, some people who want to vote GOP vote DNC instead cause they don't want the main DNC guy to win (amemiya).  I understand that rationale.

I mean what are the steps  a dictator does. 1) Restrict the people (Covid proclamations). 2) Remove  guns  (CCW restrictions).  I wonder what #3 will be next?

Getting a lot more sketchy all over. Having folks come up to me/someone in parking lots seems a lot more common.  The other night, I was picking up food and this lady was hiding inside the restaurant because a "weird guy" that came from Old Stadium Park.  I was at Times yesterday evening and a guy came up to me asking for a few dollars.  I told him I don't have any and he went to ask this older Korean lady.  Could see the fear in her eyes as he approached her.

A little memorable note from the hearing is when Tupola asked the Mayor's representative something to the effect of "The gun community is knowledgeable and willing to compromise on the list of sensitive places (per SCOTUS), would the Mayor be willing to work with the 2A community on Bill 57?"

His response was like "we'll take a look at their comments and consider them"

For those who don't know, he helps run Hawaii Tactical Division.  They offer the handgun safety class that's required for state law.

He was also at the Chiefs rules hearing in person.

Mayor Rick Blangiardi :
“And that’s why we are really strong on the sensitive places. I can’t rationalize ― with our society being what it is ― why you have to take a gun to the places that we’ve listed.”

Andria brought up the shootings in her district (Waianae) and that only 1 cop is on shift at all times.  Which is her reasoning for voting no.

The City Council is emboldens the criminals.  All these crybaby scairdy cat anti gun nuts should be afraid of the criminals, not law abiding citizens that respect law.

They are so afraid of guns they’re not thinking straight.

I mentioned this multiple times in various testimonies.  But the control the media and left has on the narrative is very strong. Sheep cannot think.

Had 1 girl on zoom that said she is neither for or against it. So WTF you doing wasting peoples time by speaking via Zoom?  At least the other guy made a choice, the bang em out guy.

  Too much time on their hands.  Dunno what to do with it.

Would have been better if she spent the time researching both sides of the fence on the gun issue so she can make an informed decision.

But that would mean thinking critically.  Heaven forbid she can't be doing that.....it's undemocratic.

Now go figure...
The testimony on bill 57 according to today's news rag was some 29% for and 71% against, yet it passed first reading 6-2. The fix was in
The council is has nine members. Understand that one of ours, Ms. Tsunioshi was MIA.
On something of this magnitude?? What's up with that???

the testimony that stuck out the most to me was (i believe) from peter roa
he said "if gun free zones work, we could end the war in ukraine by just posting "gun free zone" signs all over the country"...

Pretty much what I wrote in my testimony. I wrote these types of bills only go against law abiding citizens period. If criminals followed laws and bills like these wouldn't we be crime free?

they lump us all in with the criminals
but they are OK with a City organization that was led by a corrupt Chief and his wife to carry guns. Fair perspective huh?!
imagine the same approach they have with elections. WHo is in charge here. Clearly not us.

If the people upholding the law are that bad, imagine how much worse the rest of us are!    :shake:

Oh, wait.  Vast majority of the public have never been convicted in federal court.

Never mind!   :geekdanc:

bills are very very rarely defeated on the first reading
rest assured there are many working behind the scenes to try and fix as much as we can
be watching this forum for more details...

This is true, first reading is usually just procedural, the introduction of the bill.  Usually it's just a vote and referral to committee.  Normally no one will vote against it, even if they are opposed to it.  Getting 2 no votes and a reservation vote out of 8 council members is rare.  Getting the amount of oral and written testimony we did on first reading is also unusual.  The council asked a lot of questions which is unusual.

Things are looking pretty good so far, and the hearing was above my expectations.
