Title: We finally shot down one of the ChiCom spy balloons
Post by: robtmc on February 04, 2023, 12:12:05 PM

When will the ChiCom fluffer come along to condemn the US empire for defending our country from commie spying?

Of course, Bidet* allowed it to travel across the entire mainland first.

Trump would have never allowed that thing in US airspace.  It would have been downed upon detection.

The only reason Biden took this long is he had to clear it with China first.

Now that it's traversed the CONUS and transmitted the INTEL China wanted, they gave Biden the "Okay."

Whatever its purpose, any damage is already done.  Taking action now is fruitless and runs the risk of being illegal if the downing was in international airspace.

Such an embarrassment.

Not reliably.  The wind dispersal from such a high elevation would dissipate even an impossibly high concentration level of whatever biological agent it carried.  Add to that the limited payload capacity of such a balloon.

Balloons for surveillance and spying are just now coming back into vogue because miniaturization of electronics means balloons can carry the needed payloads to accomplish the tasks we relied on larger aircraft and satellites to do.  Balloons are harder to spot from the ground, can avoid most electronic detection systems, are a lot cheaper and quicker to launch than satellites & spy planes, and they can be guided for the most part with remote controls.

So, if you see a weather balloon the size of the Good Year blimp ..... RUN!!   :shake:

I was thinking the same thing.  He only reacted after regular US Citizens saw it and was up in arms about it.  Then he huffed and gawed and claimed credit for "protecting" our country.

This guy is just a plain ol POS.

Met an old guy today who said his son in law is a f22 instructor at Nellis. He was the instructor of the pilot who shot the balloon down.

The old guy was wearing a f22 shirt, which is what started the convo. He asked if i too was a pilot.

Old guy was with 3 others. So i doubt he would lie in front of them.

The news this morning were talking about how our government felt that citizens would be potentially put in danger if they were to blow that balloon when it was trekking over the continent.

There are so many vast places over our country where blowing up that balloon would pose no harm to anybody, not even a prairie dog.

WTF.  So much bullshiite.

Lock and Load, people.  Even range ammo is better than nothing.  China took pictures of where we live.

They already figured out how to deliver biological weapons. Even tested the theory in 2019

I continually refer to it as the Chinese virus, much to the rage of liberals.
Quite enjoyable tweaking them.

Wondering what resolution the equipment on boards is capable of.  I used to work facilities for ISR drones and the resolution on some of the newer stuff they had was amazing, and I wasn't privy to the "guud stuff".

I talked to someone who couldn't discuss their work, but in the new century he told me about the CIA having cameras on satellites that could read license plates, and find golf balls on the course, in the 80's.

While movies like Enemy of the State is "Hollywood", the technology that is in the "public knowledge" realm is quite staggering.  Different topic, but many of us in Oahu are familiar with the "golf ball".  That thing, while practically ancient, is pretty darn amazing in what it can pick up.

Here's a good explanation of how satellites are placed in orbit and the variables that determine their ability to provide expected contact with or views of the ground.  It also touches on the challenges of avoiding space debris and other active satellites.  Satellites need to be monitored and collision avoidance maneuvers executed when paths intersect.

Satelites are so yesterday.  Everyone has a smartphone with them or in close proximity. People actually believe they can turn off functions like GPS or other like tracking.  Assume they are always listening/watching.

I used to, also.  From my experience, cloud cover seems to be the biggest issue for quality imagery of the ground.

The easiest way to get a good quality image of any location is to tap into the millions of surveillance and security cameras around the world.  The vertical angle from above might catch the top of someone's head in a grainy enlargement, but the face needs to be viewed at a more horizontal perspective unless the person happens to look up toward the satellite.  Same with license plates, etc.

Unknown secret is that the Chinese Spy Balloon wanted to fly to Glendale, AZ to muck with the Superbowl. This is the biggest betting event in 2023, and any intel that could be used to alter the outcome is worth millions.
Look, no matter what side you're on, this whole overfly incident is going to cost us billions. You heard of the Space Race? Guess what? The Near Space Race is just beginning. Both political parties will sign on, for patriotism. Expect another Gulf of Tonkin style vote.
Already, you can buy scale models of the CCP Spy Balloon on ebay. Search and ye will find one going for four figures.

Both sides making "Big Body" at each other, shooting down un-manned supposedly spy aircraft.

Try shooting down manned aircraft.  Now that takes balls.
