The media portrays them as young and innocent as you can see from the pics of them, but according to the article they broke into someone's home looking for drugs. I do believe in self-defense but I feel that the homeowner went beyond that. He has that right but a "finishing shot"?
-
So agree with you...self defense is one thing but finishing head shots for each of them and waiting a day to report it. Gotto believe he'll be seeing jail bars in his future.
-
If I was on his jury he would walk.
-
Maybe but pretty compelling argument for the prosecution againt the defendant when you have two dead bodies in your basement with point blank head shots that you don't report for a day.
-
Old man is a sicko and those kids must have been high as $#it

thumbs up for shooting.
thumbs down on finishing shots. :wtf:

if what the article says is true and he shot them execution style, dragged one into the basement to lure the next one, then what he did AFTER the initial shooting was illegal. This is the type of over reaction that does our side no good. It will hurt us more than we can imagine. If mental ass obama picks this up in the middle of the UN gun ban? We are toast. Its stupid crap like this that gives the vast majority of LEGAL gun owners a black eye. Kudos for the initial shooting... fail for the execution style finishing shots.

I agree.

Happened here in my state. Rumor has it now they were outside and he drug them inside after shooting. Doesn't really matter as they were unarmed and after first wounding shot he didn't need to execute them.

If he actually shot them outside, then yes he did need to execute them.
At least this way he has a chance to get off of any charges.

You don't need to be armed to pose a threat nor cause great bodily harm to someone. If you fear for your life, then respond accordingly.
-
Of course. The issue is that after that first contact and you draw and fire, you gotta fire until the attack stops. You don't get to walk up above the attacker and then shoot until they are dead. This dude is a sick puppy and pretty much certain there is a lot more to it than a simple B and E and more than likely will get life.

Maybe the guy should have got more range time

or just carry a Glock 18

The threat ended well before the finishing shots...he deserves jail time.

I think we should just agree with that statement and leave it at that. Anything more we add just fuels ideas that ALL gun owners are trigger happy psychopaths.
Did you notice the article said the shooter's Mini 14 jammed?
It's VERY common with any non-Ruger mags.
-
ya... I would go with am AR even a cheap one over a Mini14. He shoot the kid in the leg first. So with the 5.56 at like 15 Ft I am sure it came off.

the media can say this guy is a sicko and mentally deranged killer but the fact of the matter is the two kids broke into his house. You just dont go breaking into someone elses house. they chose to make that decision and it did not quite end well for them. If the guy made any mistake its not having a big enough gun.
-
The mistake he made was executing them and making all those statements. Those statements portrayed him as a murderer rather than a victim who's house was broken into by people he was afraid of.

The statements are his biggest mistake, other than the possibility of being a sick bastard and not telling the truth. If it went down like he said and he indeed did tell the entire truth and it is found to be as such, then I think he did society a favor regardless of his method of execution (pun intended.)

We are Americans defending our homes; having someone break into your house doesn't make you a GI in a Vietnamese free-fire zone. By all means, defend your property and yourself, but finishing off a wounded intruder who no longer possesses the capability or will to continue fighting is ludicrously far over the line. Come to think of it, it would be over the line in a rice paddy in Southeast Asia, too.

He waited 24 hrs to call the cops after asking his neighbors if they know any good lawyers....

Definitely makes it sound fishy, but calling a good lawyer would be pretty damn high on my priority list after a defensive shooting.

Totally goes to show you that if you do the wrong thing you are fried. This went from 2 bad kids looking for drugs and shooting them in a self defense situation to facing 2 life sentences.

If I knew I messed up like the old guy probably does, I'd have panicked and looked for a good lawyer first as well.

Not taking sides, but this is the reason you STFU when involved in a shooting.
His own words are the worst evidence against him.
You shouldn't be talking to neighbors or the media.
Call the police and STFU.
"I'm shaken up right now officer, I'll give you a statement when I can."
Then call an attorney.
-
If lethal force is justified, and in this case it was, the homeowner could have avoided this whole mess by having a high end 12 GA shotgun, loaded with some Federal HD .00 Buck, and killing the intruders with one shot each. No fuss, call the police and go about your business. Of course the key is know your weapon and how to use it. Only downside is you have a hell of a mess to clean up, and maybe some wall repair work.

Keoni is on point as usual. If you ever press the trigger in self-defense, it'll be because you felt you were manifestly justified in doing so. The thing to remember is that regardless of how righteous it may have been, someone has a bullet in them, and they're either on the way to the hospital or a slab because of actions you took. Self defense is an affirmative defense, which means you're saying, "Yessir, I committed the crime of killing that fellow. Here's why I shouldn't be punished for it." Even in a state with strong self defense laws, they still frown on citizens shooting each other, so keeping a tight grip on what comes out of your yap is critical.

it was justified up until the point where he dragged two people who were clearly disabled down into his basement.
the executions are NOT self defense.

Oh, that's not what I was saying. I love my Mini's just as much as my AR's...just after market/non-Ruger mags suck balls.

I think you're reading into things and missing the point here...
It's simple:
The shoot an intruder = Hero and a stand-up American.
The coup de grace after = Muderer

Problem is he thought he was right and had diarrhea of the mouth. Four words: "I want a lawyer".

That's the problem. If he had the right weapon and proper training he wouldn't have to deal with this. Just shoot the punks with the right weapon center mass (i.e. shotgun with HD .00) as the threat appeared, and that would clearly be justifiable self defense (two shots, two kills). He screwed up in all areas and his big mouth was his worst enemy after the fact, but as it stands now he has some explaining to do.

This guy sounds like a modern day vigilantly. If I had my house broken into multiple times, and my stuff that I worked so hard to buy was stolen, I would be pissed off too. I consider a thief just as bad as a child molester and rapist. Drug addicted thief's makes the situation much worse as in some cases drug addict lose their sense of humanity. It is hard to put myself in his shoes, as I would of just shot them in the leg and called the police, but If I had my things stolen that I payed for or inherited from my own house. I do not really know what I would have done.
I guess it is ok if the criminals look like these guys and the victim is Charles Bronson

Boys, I really enjoy the conversation we are having on self defence. I really love firearms and the people that use'em. Heck I really love people....all kinds of people. Lets keep the positives of gun ownership and use and spread the good news that 99.99% of us really are just hard working schmucks just looking for a peaceful life, a beautiful wife and 2.3 kids to raise. If we never have to harm any human being in our lifetime its all G with us. Our best witness IS us and how we treat others. Thanks guys and gals for the encouragement and ideas you share with me on this forum. You all mean alot to me. May The Lord Jesus Bless you all this season. When all else fails and America should fall....you have one brother here in waimea on the Big Island. From here on in, I will give no more ground to the God haters or the gun haters. keep your firearm clean and your powder dry.

he also wouldnt have to deal with this if he hadnt straight up executed them after they were very much non threats.
i just really dont see any way he doesnt get put away for a long tme, big mouth notwithstanding. they probably would have investigated him anyways, as it would likely be clear that he dragged them to the basement and killed them, just from the evidence in his house.

could of been a mercy killing, and not an execution. But then again saying "I wanted them dead" makes me believe it might of been an execution.

mercy killings are still murder in the eyes of the law. that's a terrible excuse.
