Lots of suspicious causes of the fire, including the pre and aftermath. Not surprising we bungle a lot things, as humans. The NY Times and other sources generated a "list" of causes. This is a non firewalled version of the article:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/development-tourism-and-climate-change-how-humans-made-mauis-catastrophic-wildfires-worse-215135003.html (https://www.yahoo.com/news/development-tourism-and-climate-change-how-humans-made-mauis-catastrophic-wildfires-worse-215135003.html)
It is a shame they blamed homeless people for cooking outdoors. The "blame" game has no boundaries.
I will give you the inner city solution to the problem. Build concrete or brick housing projects in areas which are susceptible to fires. I lived in one of these buildings for six years, and no amount of drug dealing, smoking, indoor BBQ'ing could destroy the buildings. Just bring in stone masons from da mainland, and we could have a Cabrini Green complex built on the shores of Maui in one year flat. Cabrini Green (Chicago) and the housing projects in NYC were built 100x better than any condo in Hawaii. For a million bucks, all you get is a shack in HI.
They should now convene a panel of experts to assess what went wrong. Classic case in point was the Challenger space shuttle disaster. Richard Feynman was on that panel. Take this with a grain of salt. Like the Kennedy assassination, the real causes of any catastrophe are never fully fleshed out.

WATCH: Was The Maui Wildfire Part Of An Engineered Collapse?
https://wltreport.com/2023/08/15/watch-was-maui-wildfire-part-engineered-collapse/
snippets...
....Green recently told the media that “I’m already thinking of ways for the state to acquire that land so that we can put it into workforce housing, to put it back into families, or make it open spaces in perpetuity as a memorial to the people who were lost.”
“We want this to be something we remember after the pain passes as a magic place. Lahaina will rebuild. The tragedy right now is the loss of life.
The buildings can be rebuilt over time, even the banyan tree may survive, but we don’t want this to become a clear space where then people from overseas just come and decide they’re gonna take it. The state will take it and preserve it first.”
... Others presented more evidence and irregularities they felt were indicative of intentional arson or controlled demolition.

There's nothing controlled in 60-80 MPH winds.
Also, it's more likely there was incompetence on the part of the fire department. Green admitted the fire department responded to a brush fire before the destruction began. The firemen "thought" they had extinguished it and left. Apparently they didn't consider the high winds which obviously reignited the brush fire because there were hot spots which flared up again.
Fire professionals should have enough training on the physics of fire to know that abnormally high winds will interact with heat in ways that might warrant a little extra effort and monitoring to ensure it's 100% put out.
After the fire reignited, the winds caused "a mile a minute" travel, spreading it beyond containment very quickly.
Of course, there still needs to be an investigation into the origin of the fire before it was fought the first time, but it would seem there was at least one moment in time where the government (fire department) had the opportunity to stop the disaster from at least one originating point.
There were also questions as to why there were no cellular alerts to evacuate, that there was fire danger, and why the elaborate siren warning system never sounded. Green said they are looking into those things -- not to assign blame, but to find out how they can fix these systems going forward. "Going forward" is Democrat speak for "I know we failed, but rather than suffer the consequences, we want the public to trust us to fix the problems we caused or neglected -- the same people whose failures caused people to die."

This is a good question, why no cell alert? I mean they have yet to say "we sent one, but the towers burned down".

Remember Dr Green's maskless fundraiser while the rest of us were locked down? He knew he was destroying people's lives for nothing but went ahead and followed the WEF plan.
We would need to see more evidence to secure a conviction, but this definitely fits in with his history of psychopath toady behavior.
-
There's nothing controlled in 60-80 MPH winds.
Not to nitpick, but hypothetically, arsonists can check weather reports too. If someone was going to take advantage of weather patterns to maximize the effect of a specific action, one can wait until weather conditions are ideal before doing something.
I am not saying that it is arson or not, but it's not implausible either.

This morning on CBS News they were discussing what that Civil Defense guy was saying about why the sirens weren't activated. He said activating the sirens would drive people toward the mountains, where the fire was coming down. He said the sirens were created to warn against tsunamis. ::)
Gayle King mentioned that his remarks didn't seem to help him much, LOL!

I think Hawaii's government think we are all stupid. Sound the sirens. We still have our common sense. We haven't been brainwashed by you pukes yet.
Maybe that Civil Defense guy would have run into the fire. But if you look at his face he know's his excuse is as weak as his chances of holding on to his job.
-
Remember: These are the officials the public thinks will keep them safe, whether it's civil defense situations, traffic enforcement, violent people, or firearms.
This event and the lack of competence we see are why i will never leave my welfare and safety up to anyone else -- especially government clowns who have no motivation to make rational decisions.
Didn't sound the sirens because he was afraid people would think it was for a tsunami? A half way rational person would see the smoke and flames and be able to figure out it's not a damn tsunami warning!
Then there's the ICBM warning system using cell phones. Did Kermit leave the office and forget to pass along the Twitter password to Ima Doctor Green? A simple coordinated warning using cellphones, Twitter and sirens would explain to the "stupid people of Maui who think it's a tsunami" that the sirens are for the fires.
Civil Defense appears to be just another make-work government program that does literally nothing for the tax payers that fund them. When they actually do make the news for doing something, it's been bad news.

Mayor makes no sense.

In referring to the homeless in the "restricted" areas
Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen said no one should be in the hardest-hit areas.
“Why people are still in there is maybe because that’s where they live or that’s where they choose to go. They shouldn’t be in there, though,” he said.
“Obviously we don’t want them in there for their own health and safety. We’re not encouraging them to go in there. We’re not letting them go in there.”
-
Is he saying we're not letting you go in there but if you end up in there we are not going to do anything.
Typical Hawaii government official.
Talk the talk, no walk the walk.
HLM. Homeless lives matter.
Tax paying, law abiding citizens: Not so much. You're just the cash cow.

What I think may happen or is happening (behind closed doors) that there will be a power struggle between the people, businesses that were there and the developers / special interests that have a "new vision". The developers will align themselves under the veil of a special interest group with of course financial / power incentives.
I find it concerning that the government steps in with a "vision" of what Lahaina should be going forward - overstepping the property rights of land owners: residential and commercial. Obviously Lahaina is still recovering from all of this and that is probably the 300m target at this time but yet in his address, Gov Green said that he has a "vision" of having workforce housing, a "living" memorial (what ever that means) etc. Did he have input from the Lahaina community?
Again this is my opinion based on my interpretations of government leaders' public interaction with the media.
I hope that Lahaina just rebuilds. If you had a home OR business on 1234 Front St. you go ahead and build it back - government will help pave the way to get your house OR business rebuilt. I feel naive given all the past corruption cases that we experienced in Hawaii.
-
Greedy Green said he is already looking at rebuilding Lahaina (his way, of course). When you think about it, it will be easy for the state to buy up a lot of properties that previously would not be for sale. Just delay the building permit for a year or longer because the state has to make sure it is “safe”. You know, toxic waste and stuff from the fire. People who had jobs in Lahaina are also out of work if the place of business got burned down. So the insurance company pays you for your home. Then you have a lot that cannot be built on for a while. If it is worth $1M, the state offers you $800k. A lot of people will probably take it for the above reasons and move somewhere else. Properties are still relatively cheap on the BI, but good jobs are scarce. Oahu and Kauai properties are too expensive. More people leave Hawaii for the mainland and rich people from the mainland move to Hawaii driving up the cost of living even higher for the locals that remain. After enough Lahaina properties are obtained by the state or ultra rich, the building ban is lifted and Lahaina gets rebuilt the way the powers that be envisioned.

Let’s not let 500 children burnt to ashes in their homes get us down when there’s Sustainable Development to discuss!
That’s what I love about this guy. He can’t contain his glee. A better actor might have been able to pull it off but now he’s going down and taking the whole establishment with him

In my opinion conspiracy theories like these are counter productive and insulting. And people wonder why the democrats are in power.
-
did a CTRL F for Democrat in this thread.....

I can appreciate that position, but who really knows what are “conspiracy theories” and what are “conspiracy facts”?
What was “conspiracy theories” 2 years ago are just being swept under the rug now by the people who should be held accountable.
-
In my opinion conspiracy theories like these are counter productive and insulting. And people wonder why the democrats are in power.
Why is this a partisan issue? And why is it only people other than Democrats you think agree with conspiracy theories?
So many conspiracy theories have been proven to be true lately, one should be skeptical whenever someone labels an opinion as such. Is it really a crazy theory, or is it that the theory merely lacks publicly available evidence to prove it true?
I'm old enough to remember when Hillary called the attacks on her husband "a vast right wing conspiracy." As far as I can see, every one of those conspiracies were correct. Look at all the scandals from Clinton's 8 years. Most were proven, and the rest were never disproven.
Why is it everything the Democrats accuse Republicans of warrants an investigation or impeachment, yet everything the Democrats are accused of are "conspiracy theories?"
I blame people who still trust the media. If that's all you get from the "news", then that's what you will believe.
-
did a CTRL F for Democrat in this thread.....
Which side do you think is posting these ridiculous conspiracies?
Do you really think the government used lasers to destroy maui?
-
Which side do you think is posting these ridiculous conspiracies?
is it beyond the realm of possibilities that the radical left are posting these theories as if they are on the right so they can use them to smear the right?
Or is that just some crazy conspiracy theory?
"Ridiculous" is your opinion. Most theories are based at least in part on fact.
Who spread the lie that Hunter Biden's laptop had all the earmarks of a Russian misinformation campaign? I believe that was the FBI and the Democrats who support Joe Biden.
-
The passage of time will unveil many truths.
-
I can appreciate that position, but who really knows what are “conspiracy theories” and what are “conspiracy facts”?

Most conspiracies are proven false, but the few more realistic ones that are true give too much credibility to them all. We should be skeptical of many things but government officials drinking baby blood and using lasers to start fires are just ridiculous. Just giving more fuel to the democrats to sway the independents.
-

You think the people posting these crazy stories believe them? Or do they just find them entertaining?
I think you take too many things on the Internet more seriously than intended. And the media blows these things out of proportion.
When the people in government stop conspiring, maybe the theories will decrease. Right now, they are doing everything in their power to stop Trump, including trying to schedule his court appearance in GA the week of Super Tuesday. Isn't that election interference? Or am I a nut for even considering it to be the case?

Best to find out is from the folks at Lahaina themselves. Some of them have perished but there are a lot that are currently living like refugees.
Before labeling their current trouble as just “conspiracy theories”, reach out to the affected to see what kind of plight they are in right now. Maui is just a short flight over and you may know some people who have been affected by this.
> Permits to rebuild being stalled (told for a few years).
> Insurance companies being difficult in processing claims.
> Prevented by federal and state government from going back to their homes.
> No comms (internet or phones not working in the area)
> Neighbors or relatives having 20+ people stay with them
> State govt wanting to take control of the rebuilding of Lahaina
Lahaina folks have just been hit by a life changing event. If the gov’t cant help, then at least get out of the way and let the Lahaina community start to rebuild.
With them getting in the way and stating their plans for rebuilding Lahaina, it just makes them appear even more suspicious and malicious.
Perhaps a lot of the speculation is wrong. Only time will tell.
The question is… who benefits? Will the folks of Lahaina actually benefit or be harmed by government actions and inaction?
-
Conspiracy theories will continue to flourish as long as there is corruption in government.
Conspiracy theories start when people distrust their government.
Conspiracy theories are here to stay because government officials continue to game the system to their benefit, not the people they swore to protect and serve.
People used to say mainstream media being influenced by politics was a conspiracy theory. Some people say it still is a conspiracy theory, but it looks pretty evident it's not.
Time always reveals the truth.
-
There used to be a gap of about a decade before the conspiracy theorists proved the fact checkers wrong. Now it's down to a few days.
-

They have to get through initial recovery and debris cleanup first, which is likely to take the better part of a year… at least. If someone were to apply for a permit to rebuild right now, I would expect the county to not approve immediately.
> Insurance companies being difficult in processing claims.
Of course they are. They ALWAYS are; they’ve got to protect themselves against fraud, or else EVERYBODY’S rates go up.
> Prevented by federal and state government from going back to their homes.
Maybe because the area is still very hazardous, and there are likely many many more sets of remains left to be recovered?
> No comms (internet or phones not working in the area)
Well, the entire infrastructure burned, so that might take a minute to come back.
> Neighbors or relatives having 20+ people stay with them
Would you rather have them in a “FEMA camp”?
> State govt wanting to take control of the rebuilding of Lahaina
Who said they wanted “to take control of the rebuilding,” and when? The government is going to have a role in rebuilding, without a doubt. “Taking control” seems like a bit of a stretch.

Conspiracy theories start, and thrive, for a number of reasons. Some (a few?) are started by charismatic “true believers” that grossly overestimate their ability to weigh evidence and think critically, while ironically also believing that they’re the ONLY ones who can weigh evidence and think critically. Some (a lot?) start when somebody realizes they can gain influence, money, or both, by trotting out a theory backed by ambiguous evidence and speculation. (“Want to know the real truth? Buy my book/gadget/cure and/or subscribe to my social media feed!”). Some are started and/or spread by people who “just want to watch the world burn.” Some are true (think global communist conspiracy during the Cold War), most don’t ever pan out. In many cases, people sign on to them because they don’t want to believe that really bad things can just randomly happen; somebody MUST be behind it… and if they can only take the power back from those elites, they can stop the bad things from happening.
But they can’t, because bad things DO happen due to random chance, and if they’re exacerbated, it’s more often because of incompetence rather than malice.
You may think differently, and that’s ok… :shaka:

You left out the #1 reason conspiracy theories start. QUIETShooter was hitting on it, but he didn't get to the root problem.
If government were open, honest and as transparent as they claim, there would be no "information void." Conspiracy theories and other assumptions develop in that void.
If we can't get the straight story early on, then people are going to deduce and assume whatever makes the most sense to them. Sometimes it might seem what makes sense to the "nuts" is just crazy talk, but without the actual story, anything is possible. Maybe not the most likely, but definitely possible.
Anyone who worked in a large organization should understand this. Rumors start because the real information is not being shared below the top echelon. Rumors can destroy a company faster than bad news that's real.

Damn. Government officials talking about moral compass. Only in Hawaii.
My opinion of course.

Stuff we are supposed to accept unquestioningly:
1. People in the government never have and never will conspire to commit a crime for power or personal gain
2. The mainstream news media and tech giants that regularly go out of their way to tell us how much the hate us are the only sources of information that can be trusted.

So a term that was in use in the early 1900s was invented by an organization that didn’t exist until 1947…?
if you dig a little deeper, the term conspiracy theory was included in American newspapers as early as 1874.
It's only been since the 1950s that the term became popular. That's when the label took on the derogatory implication that the people believing them were under-educated and willing to accept complicated conspiracies to explain events where most times a simple, less conspiratorial explanation would suffice.
Some people claim the CIA invented it during the Kennedy assassination investigation. That's because anyone who chose not to believe the official findings of the Warren Commission was quieted with accusations of being a conspiracy theorist.
Some say that story about the creation of the term is also a conspiracy theory.

Space lasers makes a convenient distraction. Focus on the crazy and confuse the facts.
What we know for sure is that the Hawaii State government murdered hundreds of Maui residents and is actively planning to take over their land.
The only question that remains is if it was manslaughter or first degree

Sometimes I forget how well The Ministry of Truth works on blue staters.
I shouldn’t make accusations that I don’t have any proof for.
It’s just frustrating that the playbook is to have everyone forget about this latest crime ASAP
They want to blame it on climate change/act of god and then bury the story like Ohio

Families and children have been burned to ash and bones in their homes. According to a local, 1400 people are unaccounted for. 450 people suspected dead, 4x higher than the official death count.
Cadaver dogs brought in by FEMA to identify ash. No room in the morgue and body bags had to be flown in.
Anything organized is being done by the local community and volunteers even from Honolulu, but there is no organized help from anyone else.
Light search and rescue efforts continue but people are tired.

They think we are stupid and/or obedient enough to just accept obvious lies and move on, but the death toll is way too high to sweep under the rug in the usual manner.
I actually feel for Maj. Gen. Ken Hara. What he saw in Lahaina triggered his PTSD from Iraq and just like the good old days he's getting orders to lie in order to protect the government.
That would be SNAFU enough, but on top of that he's also getting death threats from his own community. There's no amount of training that can prepare someone for that kind of pressure.
Five Capitol police officers committed suicide after Jan 6, and that was a garden party compared to this. The fire most likely has not finished taking lives yet.

If I was the head of emergency management and the obviously incompetent political hacks on Maui were telling me that a fire destroyed the entire town of Lahaina in a matter of hours but they safely evacuated everyone my answer would be “No seriously, how many are dead?”
Then again I’m not convinced that plausible deniability is some sort of magical shield against karmic consequences.

I wonder all the time if making tourism the #1 industry in Hawaii was a wise one.
I see Hawaii's culture and beauty being violated by the greed and insensitivity of tourist industries bent on profit at all costs.
There is a real war going on between local interests and outside interests. And we know where Hawaii's government stands on this issue, regardless of what comes out of their lying mouths.

The sugar cane industry was the root cause according to this ethics professor. https://www.khon2.com/aloha-authentic/lahaina-was-once-lush-but-then-water-was-taken/ (https://www.khon2.com/aloha-authentic/lahaina-was-once-lush-but-then-water-was-taken/)
“When the first botanist came in 1792 on Vancouver’s voyage, he writes about how the land is so lush, that there is all these fishponds and stream waters and springs and that everything is cultivated to its ultimate,” says McGregor.
“There are these gardens of sweet potato, there are these great trees of ‘ulu (breadfruit), and you get this beautiful picture of lushness that was Lāhainā. Where the chief lived at the time, which was Kahekili, High Chief Kahekili, he lived on Moku’ula which was in the center of the Mokuhinia fishpond. It was a very sacred area guarded by Kihawahine, or the mo’o (water spirit) that protects the land and the waters there of Lāhainā. So, it was a very central place for the major chiefs of Hawai’i.”
And speaking of that same Moku’ula island, fast forward to King Kamehameha III, he also called that island his residence.
But from that time, how did then the transition from being such a lush ‘āina (land) to being such a droughted ‘āina?
When we even look at the name Lāhainā, one translation is “the cruel sun” leading to its drought.
So, where was that transition?
“That came when the sugar cane began to be cultivated on a large-scale basis in the 1860s and there is a report in 1867 by Davida Malo and others on some on the mission,” says McGregor.
“They went house to house because there was a famine in Lāhainā in 1867 and they wanted to know what was the cause of it. And what they found was that the cultivation of sugar, the foundation of what later became Pioneer Mill, was diverting the water away from the taro pond fields into the sugar cane fields and people were also starting to grow sugar instead of kalo (taro). And so, this led to the loss of subsistence food and the report was we should stop cultivating sugar and we should go back and cultivate the ‘ulu and the sweet potato and the taro. But as we know, sugar cane began to develop more there in Lāhainā and divert more waters to expand the cultivation of sugar under Pioneer Mill into the 20th century.”
Again, this is just a little more for you to understand our history of Lāhainā and maybe how we can use that to better move forward into the future.

are you speaking from the perspective of Asian privilege? perhaps Japanese?

The answer has already been implemented. Get rid of the sugar cane industry here, and everything will magically be transformed into the agricultural utopia that was pre-1867 Hawaii.
Funny how that worked out. You can't go back in time once a new door has been opened.
I was told by a neighbor island farmer that she was not allowed to sell her strawberries in Hawaii or any other US state when NAFTA was in effect. No fair competing against our global economy partners, like Mexico. Another thing Trump rarely gets recognition for even though Pelosi herself said Trump's new policy was much better than NAFTA -- not just for us, but all of N. America.
And we ask why so much of our subsistence is dependent on produce shipped in from all over.
What will end, though, is an extraordinary history of skills-training programs that
have produced, over the years, thousands of certified welders, electricians, internal-
combustion mechanics, and other journeyman-level skilled workers. One former
millwright, who learned welding while on the payroll of Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar,
claimed that, “Other than Pearl Harbor, the state has no other training facility for these
skills.” Over the decades, many graduates of HC&S apprentice programs took their
skills elsewhere in the county and state. Now we’ve lost a de facto training academy,
and that loss is probably immeasurable.
On Maui, many vendors of agricultural products, machine components, and irrigation
supplies just lost their best customer. Greg Heyd, the Maui branch manager for Brewer
Environmental Industries, says that the loss of HC&S was “a crushing blow. We had a
partnership that went back over 100 years.” He declines to state specifics, but concedes
that “the numbers are big.”
Asked whether Maui’s small-scale farmers, who have piggybacked on HC&S’s bulk
purchases, will also feel the loss, Heyd says, “That’s accurate. We’ve been bringing in
whole containers. Now we may have to go to smaller quantities from our Honolulu operation.”
For Brewer and for Maui, this financial blow is just now striking.
Also, HC&S has been a prominent contributor to community causes and nonprofits such
as Maui United Way and Maui Arts & Cultural Center. But Benjamin of A&B pledged last
January that his company “remains committed to Maui and will continue to be a significant
corporate supporter of Maui charities and organizations.” The company’s message has been
consistent: this is not an end but the beginning of an uncertain transition.

Usually easier to talk about the forest and forget all the trees that were toppled around the fringes. It's not just the industry that passes, but the things a huge and successful business helped to bring to others around them.

Interesting a IG page I follow is also asking the questions about melting and posted pics of the car dealership burned in Kenosha. No puddles of aluminum. I just thought, how can an engine block melt, but the body of the car not melt. Like the roof is still intact, the front fenders, the part that holds the roof up. Only the hood is gone.

The hood is manufactured differently than the rest of the vehicle. it has to contain the engine's heat, reduce noise, maintain its paint finish (prevent fading) and be formed with air intakes/scoops, etc.
They can be made of a combination of metal, rubber, carbon fiber and other materials to increase longevity and reduce weight.

So far, afaik, the worst laser strike result has been -- pilots filling out required laser strike questionnaires.
In 2021, there were almost 10K reports of laser strikes by US pilots, a 42% increase over 2020. Still, no injuries or actual safety issues resulted.
Not saying it's a nothing burger. Just that there are bigger threats than laser lights.
Maybe we can issue another diplomatic protest to the Chinese?

I mean a competent person would have someones hand on the "cut button" waiting for the call. So if no call or downed lines are reported, then no need cut power.

By the time the line is downed, it’s too late. It can spark a fire as soon as it’s downed.

True, but the alternative is to cut power for thousands everytime the wind blows.
The issue i have isnt how the fire began, but how things were managed during and after. Even till now, its a cluster fu*k. Leadership is very poor.
But 1 question i do have is did the fire start due to dry/dead stuff that wasnt cleared. Like the CA fires in the past few years. Trump wanted the feds to remove dead trees, but CA said no cause theyre part of the environment or some tree hugger BS.

I think that’s the question.
All the jump the gun lawsuits.
HECO is gonna be like “ Alright we should’ve shut the power off during Red flag warning ? We’ll show you what happens every time the wind blows and we kill power.”
-
One of the things HECO is constantly criticized for is how slow they have been to modernize the technology that manages the electrical grids across Hawaii.
This was one factor in HECO saying they could only support a 20% conversion of homes to solar -- the grid could not handle more than that for net metering in which excess solar power was then used by the utility to offset generator power.
Maybe they can invest in some newer tech to detect when a line is down, to send crews out to inspect/repair it?
GE’s GridNode High-Speed Falling Conductor Protection provides a reliable
solution to detect and isolate broken overhead line conductors using secure wide-
area measurements.

I think the issue is with where the money is going first then supposedly gets distributed to the people. The umbrella organization is with the entertainment industry and they aren't doing so good. How many layers does the money go through before it reached the front lines?

It’s all too common for “charitable organizations” to siphon off the majority of aid into administrative costs. That’s why it’s often used for money laundering

Have been seeing a lot of talk, opinions, etc on underground versus overhead lines. The cost for OH is a lot more than UG. Experiencing that in one of my projects on Oahu. That said, maintenance is also a key consideration, including factors for more "townie" or rural areas. I worked on the Lahaina Bypass project (15+ years ago now), and utilities in that area of Lahaina is super expensive to go UG because of the bluerock in the area (very hard native rock formations).

The thing about space lasers is that they are completely unnecessary. All they would have to do is defer maintenance, cripple the emergency response, and let nature take it's course.

It’s something other people are talking about, but as you pointed out simply doing a half assed install and neglecting maintenance is a way more efficient weapon of mass destruction

Oh, yeah. I've heard stuff about the lasers. . .
Shutting things down, impacting a wide swath of people isn't that difficult. Look at that jackwagon who hit the pedestrian overpass a while back and shut down pretty much all of Oahu for close to 12+ hours!

Governor Greed.
I'm so frustrated about the political environment in Hawaii. In my opinion, 99% of our elected leaders are in office because they were elected there by the powerful unions of our state. And I say this as someone who was a member of one of those powerful unions. I remember the years of them telling us who to vote for and the forcing of us to hold signs for candidates whether we personally endorsed them or not.
Anyway, I felt that there always has been a core of people in Hawaii who are trying valiantly to change the political environment of corruption and quid pro quo running rampant in politics. But we need help from members of those powerful unions to stop blindly voting for who the union endorses and take the time to do research about all the candidates out there.
I'd be willing to bet that the majority of those Lahaina residents did not vote for Governor Greed.
Anyway, just wanted to rant. This Lahaina incident is breaking my heart.

Union meetings are frustrating in this state. Nobody wants to stand up becasue we're all living so close to the edge that getting retaliated against could mean we're out on the street or moving to the mainland.
But it's not going to stop until we do stand up. There's a lot of discontent beneath the surface, and the only way to find those other people is to speak out.
Throw out some reality signals instead of virtue signals and see who responds.

Meanwhile MPD is harassing anyone trying to take pictures that could easily disprove such a theory.

The technology to put lasers in space exists.
The technology to put lasers in space with sufficient power to punch through the atmosphere all the way to sea level and ignite a brushfire is a whole different story, and while I can’t say with 100% certainty, I believe that technology does not yet exist.
