The real reason is about money not about "gun safety". Hawaii has a big government to feed as the tax base is shrinking.

Lawsuit against the company that manufacturers their own service pistol....smart

This is what the Kamala Harris-lead anti-gun group Office of Gun Violence Prevention is doing. They are getting the states to try and enact the proposals that have died in the US Congress.
Chicago filed this same lawsuit last month. If the anti-gunners can get even 10-15 cities and states to file the same lawsuit, they hope the litigation alone will drive the company out of existence.
What this issue actually does is shine a spotlight on their tactics. They can't stop criminals from making, selling, installing and using banned gun parts, so instead they go after the gun makers.
Even if Glock spent the time, money and resources redesigning and retooling to prevent today's switches from being used, it is foreseeable the new design will be circumvented eventually.
In Vegas, the only way the slot machine industry was able to stop cheaters was to hope the police could arrest them -- i.e. stop the criminal. Redesigning the machines just created another challenge for the cheaters, who seemed perfectly happy to do whatever it took to counteract new designs and technologies.

Hmmm... I wonder what attorneys they are referring to retaining ...

This is very dangerous for everyone. C&C wants to sue GLock because their guns can fit a Glock switch. Even though, Glock doesn't make them, and said switches are classified as a "Machine Gun", which makes it illegal for almost everyone who owns one.
That's like suing Toyota because NOS can be installed and it kills someone due to the car going too fast.
HI passed this as state law last year, and now we're seeing why. Even though this violates the federal protections that gun manufacturer's have. The corporate counsel that C&C has is a moron, so I expect a much better lawyer to work "pro bono" (paid for by MDA/ET, etc...).
Glock has no choice but to fight this all the way becuase if they settle, then it's open season when CA, NY, and like counties/states do the same. THen IHope they counter sue and get at least six figures. Then they break all contracts selling Glocks to any LEO agency in HI.
This is why I like Larue Tactical, basically "if it's not legal for your voters to own, then we won't sell it to your LEO agency", is their policy.

I really wish Hawaii could at least be more original than to simply copy everything California tries...
-
There is no originality in a coalition of banana republiks. ;)

That is what upsets me the most.

==========
I submitted testimony but the screen just locked up and I dunno if it took it. ??? :( :shake:
-
It's nice how the C&C counts the testimonies and puts it online. So we don't have to do it.
-
Of course this is from the same city that sued oil companies because they caused climate change, completely missing the point that the petrodollars that they want to get paid in would become worthless because of their actions.
-
I wrote a great testimony at 1am and it apparently got lost when I hit the submit button.
:(

Rest assured, your tax dollars aren't being used.
You can thank Everytown and Giffords for that.

Qualified immunity.
They aren't qualified, so they need immunity.

I'm sure the org's receive some kind of federal funds. Which is our tax dollars.
Plus at some point, the AG"s office will take time to review things. Time = money, so our state tax dollars are being indirectly used.
The judge and any court staff involved are paid with our tax dollars. This should never even go to trial, so this use of their time is wasted.

Fast forward to the last 5 mins or so. HIFICO was there for hours and had to leave because they pushed this bill to the very end.

HONOLULU – Mayor Rick Blangiardi issued the following statement on Friday directing Corporation Counsel to not proceed with a lawsuit against gunmaker Glock:
“The City Council recently authorized the Department of the Corporation Counsel to initiate litigation against a firearms industry member under the Firearm Industry Responsibility Act. I have instructed the Department of the Corporation Counsel to not move forward with this litigation unless and until a court rules the statute to be constitutional. We are aware that there is currently a federal lawsuit pending about this very issue. The City is not moving ahead unless a court rules the statute to be constitutional.”
