Firearms and Accessories / Re: Shipping Ammo to the Mainland?
« on: September 11, 2019, 02:51:04 PM »
Are you gonna be on island until the next gun show?  Sep 28-29

Another possibility is to ship via freight forwarder.  But probably much easier to sell off here.  I've bought a bunch from a group from when I was a member of SRGC.  They had lots of members sell off their stash before PCSing out of Hawaii.

In any case, best wishes to you!   :shaka:
Thanks. I'll be leaving right before the gun show, though.

2 words.  Fire sale.

Be happy you're going to a free state.  Get rid of those 10rd mags also if you got any.  Apply for tax stamp cause they take a while.
Yeah, I'll probably just sell the ammo locally. It will take me a few hours to inventory everything, though. So, I probably won't put up a post until sometime tomorrow.

From reviewing their websites, it looks like ammo is completely out for UPS Ground and FedEx Ground. That just leaves their 2-day products.

The weight and hazmat fees will make it expensive.
Have you tried it? From just browsing the websites, the HazMat fee doesn't seem that bad (assuming that they will accept the package in Hawaii).

Firearms and Accessories / Shipping Ammo to the Mainland?

I just got a short-notice offer for a postdoctoral fellowship in Texas, so now I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with my ammo.

The movers won't take it, and trying to sell it all locally in a week will be a PITA.

Anyone ever tried to ship ammo with FedEx or UPS?

I thought that this was an interesting discussion. The Second Amendment originally wasn't incorporated into state constitutions because the gentle-class was worried that commoners being equal to their trained fighting men would spell the end of their hereditary aristocracy. But Hawaii's constitution actually does include firearm rights.

I might be able to make it out to this one for the first time in a while.

Right after I left, all the rain shifted north and I didn't even get a refreshing drizzle to keep me cool on the bike for the trip home. I should have stuck around!

nice did some one pass along the coordinates to you?
No, but if it's the same place as usual, I've got 'em.

They must not get out much..were they rookies?
Maybe they just get tired of seeing hundreds of ARs and Glocks all day, every day. :P

I guess I tend to bring in interesting guns to register (like my Springfield M6 Scout/Pilot Survival Rifle/Shotgun), since about half the time, an officer takes my guns back into the office to show off to the guys who aren't working at the window.

When I was registering my Century VZ-58 with the "beaver barf" (Bakelite with wood chips to reduce weight) furniture, the local Japanese-looking officer behind the window asked me what type of wood it was since he couldn't figure it out!

Another time, I saw a newly transplanted military guy come in with about 10-12 rifles in a bundle wrapped in a blanket. I was talking to him about Hawaii's transport laws, and he told me that he called HPD and they gave him the ok to bring the guns in that way.

I would go with the reduced loads for regular shooting. No way would I be using the max shots.
If someone isn't going to be shooting full-house .500 all the time, a .460 S&W revolver and its ability to shoot .454 Casull and .45 Colt seems like it would make a lot more sense.

For me (at 5'9", 150lbs), the biggest thing I can pocket-carry is my Ruger LC9. If I were doing it every day, I would get something smaller and lighter, probably a LCP.

J Hara in Kaimuki got a new one in stock.  Do others a favor and don't buy their whole inventory.  Just saying.....
Stopped by during my lunch break and picked up a pound of CFE Pistol. Thanks for the heads-up. They have a couple pounds still left.
