Firearms and Accessories / Re: Glock hindsight
« on: June 08, 2015, 03:48:13 PM »
First let me say I used to be a bit of a skeptic on Glocks. I didn't like the grip angle, I wanted a manual safety, and I just like more traditional firearms. I've shot a Beretta m9 for my entire adult life and that's just what I knew. Everything change when I shot my friends G 19.  Then I tried a 26 and loved it, a 17 and loved it, so now I am Glock through and through. I just don't see myself owning anything else. Maybe I'll get another 1911 one day but to be honest I'll probably be at the gun shop, have a 1911 in my hand, and see the Glock 30sf that I've been thinking about buying for ever and just get that.  So.... I'm a believer.

1- Which model/ generation do you have?
G17 gen4
G19 gen4
G43

2- Would you buy it again?
Hahaha yes I want more!

3- Was it acceptable when you got it?
It was great!

4- What did you NOT like about it?
I prefer 3 dot sights.  All mine end up with something different anyway

5- If you modified it, what type of mod did you do? AND was the mod worth the cost and effort?
Just sights.  And a light /laser for the 17

6- I like adjustable sights because I tinker with different ammo.
If you have adjustable sights, what did you get? Are you satisfied with your choice?
N/A

7- express any other pertinent comment
My Glocks have fired every time I pull the trigger no matter what ammo I had loaded. they're accurate out of the box, extremely lightweight , and flat out work. They've been around for a long long time and have proven themselves since the beginning. Like I said before there are other guns that I want but everytime I get close to buying something else I did end up buying another Glock.

Not sure if you know or not or if anyone else has posted, but the 34 was built to be a range gun. It has the lighter trigger the extended slide release and magazine catch, and adjustable sights.

Eh, it is what it is.  The story behind it and the that passes it down to me means more than anything. Here's a shot of the whole rifle.

Okay so here's the story behind the rifle. My grandfather was on a destroyer in the Pacific in WWII. They blew a Japanese battleship in half in, I want to say, the battle for Midway. The front half of the ship was sealed and still floating, so they towed it into port. My grandfather and a team went aboard to disarm the ship and crew. Of course the small arms were some of the things that they took and he was allowed to keep this rifle. So he brought it home after the war and had his brother-in-law sporterize it.  The barrel is cut down below the bayonet lug, added a good set of iron sights, folded down the bolt, changed it to a Monte Carlo left handed stock, and added the scope. The chrysanthemum has a screw hole tapped in the center of it lol. I don't think these two country boys from Mississippi we're thinking about the value. My Pawpaw just wanted a good deer rifle lol. One day I will find a good left handed bolt action rifle but until then I'll find as much 7.7 as I can and shoot this rifle with a smile on my face.(not too big of a smile at $2 a shot)  Its historical value goes way beyond priceless to me.

The rifle shoots wonderfully.  It'll hit golf balls at 100yds all day, if I do my part. There was nothing really wrong with 4 X 30 Tasco that was on the gun. It's just not ideal for hunting in heavy brush or low light.

I'll post some pics of the whole gun tomorrow.

Firearms and Accessories / New scope for an old, old rifle
« on: May 31, 2013, 11:02:04 PM »
Its time my grandfather's old arisaka got a new scope. The problem is, its all custom work done by my great uncle about 50 years ago.  It had a Redfield Swing-Over rings and mount attached to the receiver with 3 screws. So the question is, what kind of mount should I use?  Picatinny?

Any help is greatly appreciated !

It's all good.  Is it really only 15 yards?  I stand corrected.

Not sure if I mentioned it yet but, look in the picture, you can see the tan barrel doesn't quite match the magpul fde. I dig it though.  More contrast.

I got to get out and shoot the 870 today.
Its shoots great.  The magpul furniture really lends itself to the push/pull method, and its nice on your cheek.  I pattered it with federal tactical 00. It made double fisted patterns at 25 yds.  Lawman target loads... not so much.... huge patterns at 7 yards.  I highly recommend all the mods.  Everything works really well for the intended purpose.

Nice!  How does it feel compared to stock?

Much handier feeling. Very quick pointing.  I also have a bit more conference in its ruggedness where before I was always really careful with it.   It was too pretty.

Wow, that looks amazing. Howzit shoot?

Not sure yet. I hope to get it to the range this week though.

Ive read around and some online reviews say that doing mods require a gunsmith for most mods.  Is that true for the mods that you did?

No gunsmithing required.  Its just reassembly with different parts.

I finally got the parts in.  The barrel shroud won't work due to the magpul forend. I could trim either one down but its not really worth it... oh well.

What do you think?

For HD get a single point with a hook or qd.  Weapon retention is the idea.  2 and 3 point slings could get in the way of the slide on a pump.

Glad to hear you're diggin' it.  If you're not, speak up.  I can take it.

Shotguns are often forgotten for some reason.  Take out that old fence post and use it!

The Magpul stocks are awesome!  If you can't install these, you shouldn't own the gun they go on.  ...just sayin'.... it's that simple.  Oh and they come with all the needed tools sans screwdrivers.  If you've  been looking at these and have questions, please ask.

The grips are extremely ergonomic.  It actually tightened the action up a bit.  I did install one of the four included stock shims to get the length of pull just right.  Also, I had to move the light one slot back from the front because it was pointing too low.
