I know this is an old thread but thought I’d jump in anyway since no one mentioned an important point..  If you can’t beat them, RUN.

You’re severely out numbered and from the sound of it outgunned.  Unless you’re Chuck Norris or an uber-sniper than can put a .22 in five different rushing eye sockets at a few yards and closing, it’s a losing battle.  I’d choose the .22 to buy as much time needed to get the hell out of dodge.

If there’s no means for escape and you have to fight outgunned, there are many possible courses of action to take depending on the immediate threat and the way the scenario plays out.

In the Army if you’ve found yourself in a setup ambush, you’re objective is to get out of there as soon and safely as possible because you’re at a tactical/environmental disadvantage.  If you can’t immediately get out, hunker down to hold off attack and call/hope the cavalry comes.  Fighting out of a “decently” planned ambush is usually costly.  It goes without saying that it’s always best to spot and avoid an ambush by maintaining situational awareness of your surroundings.  Sorry I didn't have a fun answer

One more thing!  If you have ammo in the same case through the airline, be sure that at some point you discreetly separate the two once at your destination as it is our state law that the two are not together while transporting in a vehicle.  Also when traveling to other states, check the state and local laws in the destination you are traveling to as laws vary from state to state!

I'm a little confused by this.  I read the law as saying the firearm must be unloaded (no ammo chambered, or if magazine inserted no ammo in magazine.  Am I misunderstanding it that it doesn't prohibit from having the ammo and firearm in the same rigid "enclosed container"?  I figure better safe than sorry (or LEO misunderstanding leading to arrest) and separate them anyway, but I'd be interested in how the letter of the law is interpreted.


On a slightly off-topic, what is your guys experience/opinion on a rigid enclosed container for ammo?  Is ammo in it's original box, within a closed duffle bag ok?  It's not exactly completely "rigid".  What if the ammo was instead in a plastic ammo case, within a closed duffle?


I'm finding it tricky to figure out what's "ok" where law interpretation is required..  Info from those of you who have to deal with this issue consistently is invaluable to a newbie like me.

I'm not new to firearms (served Army) but new to personal ownership/use in Hawaii.  I'm surprised at how complicated and difficult it can be to legally own/use a personal firearm here.  I think more education and organization will get us closer to common sense.  Now I'm getting off-topic so I'll save it for another thread!
