Health, Fitness, and First Aid / Re: Tourniquets: yay or nay?
« on: March 06, 2011, 01:44:57 PM »
I just went through CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) training about a month ago (also did the training in 1992) which included the Red Cross First Aid course and was told that tourniquets are not recommended.  Direct pressure is still the best procedure.  Also, traumatic amputation does not call for a tourniquet because the blood vessels typically restrict the flow of blood and again direct pressure is suggested.  I still carry one just as a precaution but also carry QuikClot for added insurance.

Legal and Activism / Re: Cleared by Supreme Court, Record still Exists

Alex, that is somewhat good news, however, it appears that one must apply in person and also that the permit is only good for one year.  That would, unfortunately, preclude many on the mainland from even attempting to apply.  Personally, I would apply even given the one year renewal if that stipulation were amended to allow, like Florida and Utah, to allow one to apply from ones home state.

I wish I could apply for a CCW for Hawaii, unfortunately I'm not a resident.  I live in New Mexico.  Not having a permit is one of the main reasons I probably won't be visiting the island anymore and spending my tourist dollars.  Hopefully things will change.

Using a loaded gun to demonstrate your right to bear arms at a presidential event is a dumb idea. Maybe you’re a responsible gun owner, but what about the 50 people next to you? Who’s to say someone won’t get excited and start firing? And if that happens, the government will be even more interested in restricting gun rights. Demonstrators either need to keep their guns unloaded, or not bring them at all.

Time will tell whether or not showing up at a political event will help or hurt our 2A cause but suggesting people carry unloaded guns is, it think foolish.  If you are going to carry, unless restricted by local law, and in that case why carry at all, a gun should always be loaded.  After all we are taught that a gun should always be considered loaded for safety sake.  If someone in the crowd is going to attack another person just because that person is legally OC then what good will an unloaded gun be.

Hello from New Mexico.  Thank you for continuing the fight to support the 2nd Amendment and right to carry.
