General Discussion / Re: Don't Do This
« on: July 13, 2013, 03:43:34 AM »
With the whole love, peace, and harmony mindset or the free love and mind altering experimentation? Hippies don't riot. They just sit in protest.

The MSM keeps pushing Zimmerman as a white guy.

When he is a Peruvian.  Hispanic.
Don't think that matters in some parts of the country. Not white = black/hispanic/asian and vise versa. But when it comes to the "new" Black Panthers and their plan? It makes me laugh. They're are a hell of a lot more good ol' boys, militia groups, and other scarier extremists in those parts that LA style riots are doubtful.

Legal and Activism / Re: Deedy Trial - Injustice?

Hawaii State law allows them to forcefully take a blood test from you if a death occurs in the accident. It's not your choice. This is not DUI. It's negligent homicide.
Thats because everyone gives implied consent when obtaining a drivers license. They just do it anytime there is an injury/fatality so they have evidence for what they'll charge you with. But legally they can forcibly take a sample anytime someone is in custody whether someone gets hurt or not.

General Discussion / Re: Shopping for .308 Single Bolt
« on: July 12, 2013, 10:46:51 PM »
Like everyone was telling me ill probably get bored just shooting a AR, they were right lol.. I guess my next toy im looking to get is a single bolt .308. Off the bat my 1st choice is a Remington 700 series, like some of us were on a budget & ill be slowly upgrading it. I was looking at a Varmint or a SPS model, for sure I wont be doing any hunting just strictly target. All this is new to me, barrel length, heavy or lighter barrel, what do you guys suggest for a newb like me..

The overall quality of Remington's has declined since Cerberus bought them.  And it's especially noticeable in budget models like the SPS. I know you're only going to be shooting paper but I believe you'd be better off in the long run saving up for a better model in the series or following gsmgc's suggestion to get a Savage.

General Discussion / Re: Which non-resident CCW permit?
« on: July 12, 2013, 09:27:30 PM »
The UT CCW is good, but you'll run into the same fingerprinting issues as for FL.

So a Nevada CCW would probably be the easiest overall. Just buy a cheap 3-4 day casino package and arrange to take a class when you're there. Do the class and submit your application the next day. The pictures, fingerprints and fees are done/collected at the LVPD CCW office and they mail you the permit.

You can then spend the extra days making back the money spent to get a CCW.

General Discussion / Re: Fatal shooting at handgun course on Maui

So, what, exactly is accomplished by obtaining the permit pre-training?  (the obviously baited question assumes you see some benefit derived from the process of applying for a permit)
I thought that part was pretty clear: because the majority of folks are taking the class to meet state requirements to purchase a handgun. Never said it should be a prerequisite for the class, just a sensible recommendation. Because if someones goal is to own a handgun, knowing that they can pass the background check and get a permit to acquire would certainly benefit them in the end. I don't think it matters if someone is going to get a long gun. It's about getting the printing/photographing/background check part out of the way and possibly finding out if there is something they need to resolve.

Its sad but fact is there is not much anyone can do if a person is determined to take their own life.

Just an idea here: Since the majority of people are taking the pistol safety course to buy a handgun and with Hawaii laws being what they are, why don't instructors request that students get their long gun permit first? Instructors would know that some sort of background check has been done. And students will know if they can own a firearm, what they need to get sorted out and then decide whether they still want to spend $100+ for the class. Does that make sense or is it just me?

Health, Fitness, and First Aid / Re: Super glue?

Ordinary cyanoacrylate adhesives will work but it doesnt store well or long and degrades rapidly after opening. If you keep some in your first aid kit you should check it regularly and have alternatives on hand. A suture kit would be great but regular butterfly bandages or a small sewing kit would usually work just as well.
