General Discussion / Re: A Question About Traveling With FIrearms

Yup your better off leaving it at home my friend. I'm flying in Xmas weekend to see the inlaws. I wanted to take a ride out to the range with the father inlaw just so we can have a good ole fashion dxck measuring contest but none of my toys are Cali compliant. Don't want no range officer killing our joy so I just picked up an old Marlin 36a In 30-30.

Yeah, that's very similar to the situation I'm in. It would be awesome to get some range time in with the family, but it's just not worth the risk of running afoul of California's idiotic gun laws.

Took my trap gun to Sacramento last June. No problems. Bring a copy of your Hawaii registration with you just in case. Now if your rifle is an AR that is not Kali compliant, you'll have problems. If a bolt, single shot, or lever, no probs. I would check with CHP if an AR is ok but would be willing to bet if it is not Kali compliant I would leave it here. Mini 14/30, BAR and Remington semis are ok but no mags over 10 rounds. Good news is there is no limit for hunting, as long as it's 10 or less. Call CHP,they gqve me excellent advice and emailed me all the info....

It's a AR. My safest option is to just leave everything in Hawaii when I travel. It's not worth the risk.

The law of the land you are in is what you have to abide by. The only exception to this is if you're traveling through a place with your final destination being in some other state. (information about the last bit here

Ok, thank you. That's what I needed to know. It just shouldn't be this difficult to exercise my Constitutionally given rights.

Thanks for the info.

I have a question about traveling with my firearms. If I wanted to take my rifle with me when traveling to California, does my rifle (or hand guns) have to be California compliant, or, as a resident of The State of Hawaii, will  the State of California recognize Hawaii firearms laws?

Does anyone here have any experience with the North Shore Marksmen Shooting Club? I've only now learned about them, and I'm trying to get some information and feedback.

Hello 2aHawaii,

I'm Tony from Honolulu. I'm staunch believer in The Second Amendment; It's my opinion that there would be no Constitution if it were not for the Second Amendment; the Second Amendment makes the remainder of The Constitution possible.  I'm always seeking  to learn as much as I can about guns, shooting, and shooting sports. I have a strong interest in competition shooting; everything from 3 gun, IPSC and IDPA, to Cowboy Action shooting. I also have a strong interest in learning as much as I can about self and home defense. I'll also be honest and admit that I also want to own guns because I'm an American and The Constitution says I have a right to.

I look forward to meeting the people here and learning all that you have to share.
