I have an appt for tomorrow 11/20 at 0940 for Permit to Acquire, 3 guns or less.  Unfortunately the seller I was dealing with backed out of the sale so I no longer need the appointment.
Please PM me if you want it.

Just FYI.
Unregistered firearms are prohibited at the Kokohead shooting range.
At least that’s what it says on their website.

I
Saturday at the skeet range is usually the lease crowded of the skeet and trap days good idea to get there earlier as sometimes as said if it gets slow they might close the range. Plus Skeets more fun and the people are nicer than those snobby trap guys  >:D

and I used to think you were one of the cool skeet guys.........

Tim808
The trap range is open on Sundays and the first Saturday of every month.  We'll also open on other Saturdays or holidays from time to time and it's usually not too busy on those days.
Are you a club member? If you are, you should be getting emails about special open days.  Just come out and shoot, most of the guys are very friendly and helpful.
You should try both skeet and trap and decide for yourself which you like better.
The saying goes "Skeet is harder to learn but easy to master, trap is easy to learn but harder to master".
See you at the range!

If you come out to the trap range, you’ll notice most use O/U.
It’s preferred because O\U actions can take a lot of rounds with little maintenance, are easy to clean, easy to load and unload,
and are super reliable. Most O/U made for trap shooting are heavy,
so they tend to be really soft shooters which is a good thing.
I’ve shot semis but to me the cons are:
The guy shooting next to you might get pissed off if your shells keep bouncing off them or their gun.
If you do go semi, make sure you put a shell catcher on it.
Cleaning is a lot harder because of the gas system, and to me they’re more susceptible to malfunctions.
On the plus side, semis tend to be soft shooters because the action absorbs some of the recoil energy.
I’ll be at the trap range today, all day. Come by and say “HI” if your in the area.

General Discussion / Re: KHSC Range to be Closed at Night
« on: March 16, 2018, 03:21:03 PM »
Makes no sense. Example: range closes at 4. How are people supposed to pack up and get out the entrance by 4:15? So people will have to stop shooting early just to make it out the gate.....
Trap range: no new shooters after 3:30, range closes at 4. We have to secure the trap house, secure the office, do the paperwork for the day in 15 minutes? Impossible! Probably the same for the skeet range.
This is going to be interesting...

My car locked in? That chain will get cut real quick.....
Trap Range rules will change.  Last squad at 3:00pm.

I received the notice today.  Per rangemaster Mike:
"Effective 3/21/18,  the gate will be open at 730am & closed at 415pm Wednesday-Sunday."
Don't know why they're doing it but I hope it doesn't cause any traffic issues.  I can imagine all the shooters lined up waiting to get in,
and cars backing up on the road.

Would you say a sie by side 16" 12 ga coach shotgun is appropriate for fun/cowboy/non-competitive trap shooting?
It's been a year since I started this thread and have since been shooting trap regularly. I'm usually at the trap range on Sundays, and have seen all kinds of shotguns being used.
Although your coach gun was not designed for shooting trap, you can definitely bring it out and use it.
Keep in mind, you'll need to use target loads.  Typically 1-1/8 oz of #8 or #7-1/2 lead shot, going about 1100-1200 fps. Shot larger than 7-1/2 is not allowed.
If you want to lessen the recoil, try using lighter 1 oz loads.
Trap range is open on Sundays 0900-1600.  Cost to shoot is $7.00 for a round of trap (25 birds)  for non-members.
Sundays can get pretty busy so it's better to come early if you don't want to sit around and wait to shoot.
Trap range also opens on the first Saturday of every month.  Let me know when you're coming out and I'll help you get started.
You'll have a lot of fun so bring more ammo than you think you'll need!

anyone know if these are TSA approved?

You can fly with these but one thing to keep in mind, if you fly Hawaiian Air like I do, and you get a ticketing agent that's having a bad day, they can nail you with a oversize bag fee.
$35 interisland, $100 if you going mainland in addition to their regular bag fees. .  If the Length + width + height adds up to 62" or more, it's considered oversized.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions.   I spoke to Josh at Stueb's Guns and Ammo and he was very helpful.  They didn't have what I wanted in stock but he's ordering it for me so should be here in a few weeks.

Anyone know where I can get 12 ga target ammo for shooting clays on the Big Island?  Preferably Hilo but will go out to Kona if have to.
I know Tokunaga Store is one place, anywhere else?

I use 200gn powder coated SWC from Missouri Bullets, Starline brass and 4.8gr of HP38 or W231. Super accurate load in all of my guns.

Check your email client settings (application, i.e. Outlook, Mac Mail, etc).  What server do you have configured for outgoing email?  Usually it's identified as the SMTP server.

If you have it configured for, say, Oceanic RoadRunner, and you are connected to another network (like WiFi at a public site or your work), RoadRunner will not accept an email sent from a non-RoadRunner network.

You need to either connect to a RoadRunner network, or change to another SMTP server that accepts your outgoing email.

RoadRunner has free WiFi hotspots all over the island.  If you can see one listed in available WiFi access points, you just need your login name and password to connect.

Many people who travel often just use the free Gmail SMTP server for outgoing mail.  It accepts email from any network you're on as long as you authenticate with your Gmail ID and password.

If that's not it, then the problem exists in the HDF server setup, perhaps because they are forwarding email to another server for reading.

Hope that helps.
Roadrunner does allow emails through their servers even when you're not connected to their network. The outgoing server you have to use is  mobile-smtp.roadrunner.com
You'll need your username and password for server authentication.
Hope that's useful.
