This is somewhat of a morose topic but thought it would be of interest to some of you since it's somewhat firearm related.
I just got through watching Ip Man and Ip Man 2 on Netflix for the 20th time and started doing some online research on the character. Well as it turns out, Ip Man is associated with Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee is of course associated with his late son, Brandon Lee. I recall Brandon's death in my younger non-gun toting days and always wondered WTH went wrong so against my better judgment, I followed my interest, reading more about Brandon than I did of Ip Man. As it turns out, Brandon was killed during the filming of The Crow by a real 44 magnum. A 44 Mag squib load-turned-full-blown-into-a-regular-round was fired by Brandon's Hollywood movie assailant during the filming of a scene. Apparently, the film crew could have purchased blanks for use in the handgun but chose to go cheap instead by removing the powder from real rounds. The bullets were then re-seated and inserted into the handgun for use in close-up shots of the revolver so that the gun and protruding bullets looked realistic. Unfortunately, the technician who pulled the bullets didn't bother to pull the primers so when the gun was fired during the filming of one of the scenes, the explosion from the primer drove the bullet into the forcing cone, lodging the bullet in the barrel (i.e., a squib load). The bullets were then removed and replaced with blanks to simulate live fire in a subsequent scene. Well you can probably figure out what happened next. The blank had enough powder to create energy sufficient to fire the round stuck in the barrel. Brandon was shot in the gut and underwent 6 hours of surgery before doctors pronounced him dead.
