Hi everyone.  Still getting used to this state and gun laws.  I just got a phone call, and HPD says that they have no record whatsoever of me ever registering my firearm.  Last month, I brought my rifle downtown, in a locked pelican long gun case, waited in line at HPD, watched the officers in the back play with my gun for 20 minutes, (not that I cared, it was kinda funny), and then got my registration and left.  Now they tell me that they don't have any record whatsoever of me coming in that day?  Seems sketchy to me....   They gave me the following number:

808-529-3340.  Is this a legit phone number? I talked to a "Suzy" when I called. The first number that they left a number on my phone with was blocked. 

I don't know about you, but I just feel upset, and scared, both because I gave them very personal information, and they lost it, and because it's always the guys who follow the gun laws in the end that get F'ed over. 

I don't want to give ANY of my information out unless it's to a reliable source.

Did u get a half white sheet of paper from them as proof?  Ive seen guys walk off without signing off on it and not get a copy of the reg
that white half sheet is the ref document.  All guns registered with hpd will have it.  Sometime more than one gun will be on that paperwork.  I have a reg with 2 guns listed on kine sheet

Yezzir!  I made sure I didn't leave that place without it.  As instructed by HPD, the permit stays with the firearm at all times.  The whole thing seems sketchy to me....

call or go down, and hopefully it will get straightened out
you have the paperwork, make a copy to keep at home when you go down
and then take the original and talk to the people behind the glass

Suzie is legit be nice to her she's the one that deals with discrepancies. Dont fret it will be fine just bring that copy you have back to her they will sort it out. I've been there and done that already.

Thanks Dirty!  (And everyone else).  I just got off the phone.  They just wanted the registration number.  Just wanted to make sure I wasn't falling into a trap! (and don't worry! I'm really patient and calm and was nice to suzie ).

Thanks for the heads up!  It's gonna take a while to get used to everything here, so I just want to make sure I'm doing everything right and not breaking any laws or setting myself up for failure.

There is no law that requires the permit to stay with the firearm. And, there is no law that requires you to show said permit to anyone, such as range masters, for any reason. I keep all my permits in my safe for the very reason you experienced. SO that I can verify I registered my firearms. Keeping the permit with the gun just increases the odds that you will lose the only document that verifies you registered your gun should HPD "lose" their copies.....

I wouldn't even keep copies of firearms registrations with the guns...it has personal info on it that no one needs to know....

While I can believe that HPD occasionally loses paperwork, what strikes me as od in this case is that, having lost the paperwork, they would:
1. realize that they had lost the paperwork,
2. know whose paperwork they had lost,
3. know what the paperwork they had lost was for, and
4. call to inform you.

You're right, it sounds sketchy as hell.

FFL notified HPD when he picked up long gun
if he doesn't go in, or in this case, they didn't cross match properly, it shows up sooner or later as non-registered

I sold a rifle to someone.

I had owned the rifle for a few years.

When the guy went to HPD to register the rifle, HPD called me and started asking me questions about the rifle.

They said they had no record of me owning the rifle.

I told them is be right there.

Luckily I still had the white registration paper.

I dug it out of the safe and went down to show them.

For some reason they couldn't find any record of me ever registering the rifle.

They were real nice about the whole situation though.

It all worked out, but like you, I was real worried.
