Compact pistol combo lock case - recommendations?
« on: August 21, 2014, 10:13:58 PM »
I don't want any fingerprint recognition gizmo with electronics that can screw up, nor do I want keys that kids can steal.

No kids at my place but just saying. Kids can visit, etc.

Any halfway slim sized decent lock case / safe to recommend?

I've been eyeing V-line lock boxes.  I like the quick push button access and no electronics.  Are they good?  Don't know yet.  They also have some 'in the wall' options.

I got one of these a few weeks ago.  They had a sale.  I got free interior carpeted lining plus $20 off.

I got the FAS1-TL with the tactical light holster.

This thing is HEAVY!!!  Most solid handgun safe I've ever seen.

It doesn't come with mounting holes or hardware.  That will be up to how and where you want to mount it.

The simplex combo lock is the weak link.  I've read there are a relatively small number of combinations (1,082, which can be X 2 if you include half button presses).  Therefore, a determined person could methodically find the combo in a few hours.

I'll also be concealing mine to hopefully increase security.

Shipping was $52.21.  The website calculated $84.43, but I emailed the owner and asked him to check on the actual cost.  For mainland buyers, First Class USPS shipping is FREE!   :(

Even the pneumatic bar that opens the lid is tough.  Takes some effort to get the lid closed!

My total was $261.21 w/free interior carpeting.  Check their site around Labor Day for another sale.

Other options to consider:

Also not to nitpick, but there are really 1081 combinations, the extra +1 is just trying the knob :) If it features half-presses then 1081*2 + 1  not 1082*2

Just another option to look at for you. I got the Fort Knox under my bed for quick access in the sleeping hours (amazon link below). The safe is not out on display and you can bolt it to the floor of your house. I think I am going to get the FAS-1 posted by mauidog to have in the living room for another easy access SD option. I like the way it opens and the pistol is right there and ready to grab real easy.

I use a Zero Halliburton aluminum case.  It's been in the family for probably 40 years, maybe more.  Still running fine!

Another FAS1 safe owner here. It's pricey, but very well made.

Here was my post about them a few months ago-

After two cheaper battery safes failing , simplex locks only for me.

Hey Lifer, which version did you get? I am thinking I am going to put my G17 or VP9 in this safe and not sure of which to get. More space the better I guess but just want to hear what others may recommend.

OK I have one of those. I agree it can work in a pinch but is too large.

Looks pretty good. Can fit Beretta 92 size inside with spare mags?

I got the Magnum XL. I put my HK45 with light in the holster and another pistol resting on the bottom.

My strategy is if I go investigate a bump in  the night with the HK, my wife has the other with her

The FAS1 isn't small but fits nicely. Add a little camouflage and it's perfect.

Bumping in the night?

I think, therefore I am armed.

I got my G17, extra magazine, a package of 12 CR123A for back up power for my light. I probably could still fit another two G17 in there (stacked though but they could get in there easy). Pretty sure the Beretta 92 will fit.

Here's a couple of links to buying it other than amazon:

Thanks - looks like it would be fine to have my 92 in there with my G17 and G19 as well maybe. Perfect! Will see about the pricing and shipping.

Mahalo!

And Mahalo to all the other suggestions too.
