Business Is Picking Up In Pahoa.

Been working in Pahoa all week trying to get the largest elementary school in that district relocated before the lava gets there. These were my observations:

The other night, I could smell the smoke from the tires and junk cars burning. I live in Hilo about 15 miles away. Lex Brodie's is close to the lava path, and has a pile of discarded tires just waiting to burn.

Lines of cars early in the morning when we roll in to town. People get up early to see if they can get in to see the flow.

At times we would block a side road to load the semis. People were yelling at us trying to get through. If they only knew, Civil Defense and HPD has blocked the road a few hundred yards further up.

I sure hope that these people don't clog up the roads when it's time for us to really get out of there.

KHON and KHNL were at Keonepoko School in Hawaiian Beaches looking for a story. I stopped by a cameraman only to ask where the flow was, because we can't see anything from down there.

I wished that the media didn't announce that the school was going to be abandoned. The freaks will be coming, and are going to strip the campus clean of whatever we leave behind.

Will be going back down there next week to finish getting the school out of there before the lava takes the second road.

The place will be blocked up as best as can before the last guy out locks/welds up the gates.

The flow is projected to go through the school area. The low point seems to be the northern end of the grounds. Problem is how wide it will be if it gets there. 200 hundred yards wide, then it covers the whole campus. The NG are there, mostly to man the road blocks so far. There are still a lot of roads open, so they aren't patrolling yet. I would guess that once a lot of areas become isolated they will be in there.

The NG were manning the road blocks to the flow, but people are still sneaking in. There are Facebook videos and photos of people showing what they saw when they got through. The really stupid ones are taking selfies standing next to the flow.
