Chrono at rifle range?

Stupid question time. Where do you guys set up your chronograph at the rifle range?
is the ground on the left side flat enough to set up there? I've done all my shooting on the right side
of the range, so i'm having trouble picturing an area flat enough to set up.

I don't have one but am planning to get one. I've seen guys set them up on the left side of the rifle range.  Uneven surface is not an issue If you use a camera tripod with telescopic legs. Elevation is an issue if all you have is a typical camera tripod.

Thanks, that's the info i was looking for. I don't have one either but wanted to make sure i could use it before i buy one.

I did the tripod thing for a while, but on a windy day the results are sparatic.  Next I did the prone on the left side thing, placing the chrono on a 2x4 and sand bag to hold steady, results were better....  Now I have the Magneto speed chrono.  With this one you can do what ever you want...  You can stand and shoot if you want. ;)

Also to add, lighting conditions, wind, and muzzle blast from other shooters will not mess with your readings on the magnetospeed.  Things can get irritating fast when the guy next to you has a tank break and you are trying to get readings from a regular optical chrono.  Not a problem with the Magnetospeed.

One problem with the magnetospeed is that you cannot use it for pistol rounds.

I set up my chrono on the far left side and shoot prone just like heavies stated. haven't had a problem yet and usually there are not that many if any people on that side.

The prone side is flat enough that you dont need a tripod as most dont go low enough. You may need a small brick under a chrono to align with target. In my experience, using a solid white background (white choroplast) gives the most consistent, accurate readings. Also keepng the chrono far enough from muzzle blast - I go about 10 feet.

We setup a chronograph occasionally on the far right side. The RO's tell us it is okay. We just shoot down since we don't have a tripod tall enough. Never had a problem.

That Magneto looks awesome! A bit too
Pricey for me though. I'm thinking i wouldn't
Use it enough to justify the cost with the boss.
She's been ok so far, and i'm tryin to keep it that way!

My last sentence requires clarification. I meant to say that most typical full sized camera tripods should work on the left side of the rifle range. Elevation would become an issue the farther you go to the right due to the increasing slope.

just drag the nearest bench to the left side of the range where the ground is flat........................set up your tripod
