If too many people do all the things they like and not much of the things they don't like, then we end up in a situation like America is in right now, where many people doing things they don't like end up supporting all the people doing the things they like, because they can't go on living with no support since the things they like don't make money and they want more, because they think they are entitled to the stuff the people doing the things they don't like earn, then the people doing things they don't like get tired of that shit, so they start doing things that they like and the stubborn ones continue doing the things they don't like, and have to support more people doing the things that they like............. argh!

BALANCE IS KEY.

I was going to state this a bit more simply; Then REALITY intrudes, and people realize they like to EAT, and SLEEP INDOORS. To PAY for all of these things they'll have to DO SOMETHING THEY DON'T LIKE.

Agree with Heavies and Edster. No disrespect meant for NG but the video was a bit too wishy-washy for me.

I wish more people would own up and do the things they know they have to do but don't want to. If more people did this, our world would be in much better shape than it is.

I think it's all about having a purpose and passion for something, anything.  Some people are very fortunate to be able to do something that they love but for the rest I think being part of something that's bigger than yourself (even if its outside of work) is enough to keep you going and feeling fulfilled.  It could be your kid, your dog, providing for your parents, God, anything really so long as you know that by waking up and going through the grind someone is going to be better off today because you got something done.  I think problems arise when you lose your purpose or focus too much on yourself.  When you put something else #1, you tend to get up out of bed a lot easier in my experience.

NG, I knew you would not take my comments the wrong way so thank you for that.  Replying here to further share some thoughts.

The point of the video that it is idiocy to just keep doing something that one doesn't like for money is valid.  However, the message to just do the things one likes can be taken to an extreme also. 

I like to tell my kids something I heard before... "There are 2 things you must do in this life... (#1) things you have to do, and (#2) things you love to do."  Just doing #1 to an excess is a sad life which was the point of the video.  However, just doing #2 to an excess is a life without responsibility.  Personally, I think of the 2 extremes, being a responsible (and persevering) adult is better than being an irresponsible (and self-centered) adult.  I tell my kids to get #1 done quickly so they have plenty of time to do #2. 

Additionally, Colossians 3:23-25 also has something to say about this subject:

Lastly, the question posed by the video "If money was no object?" is a trap.  If one is not content with what they have, the money will never be enough... there will always be more to buy or a richer Jones to keep up with.  And besides, I think money doesn't solve all things... there are many obscenely rich people who live miserable lives.

I'm with you.... If money were no object, I would take my parents, wife and kids traveling around the world so they can study their school reading material in real life and from those that live it for real.

Hey NG, I think you're right, you're intent was misconstrued.

It seemed to me that the guy was trying to advocate a more or less Bohemian lifestyle. Do what you like and hope the money will follow.

I would first and foremost, use my wealth to try to bring America back to what it once was, the greatest nation on earth. Since a detailed explanation could literally fill volumes, I'll simply leave you with that ideal.

I would like to own ranches in several different states, Montana, Wyoming and Texas leap to mind, though I wouldn't limit it to those.

I would like to spend time with my family traveling and make my wife and children as happy as possible.

I like to build things like 60's and 70's muscle cars, I would like to get a pilots license and fool around with aircraft, I have a thing for WWII Warbirds.

Last, but certainly not least, I would indulge myself by purchasing firearms I like and going hunting.
