Tavor...vs scar16/17, BATTLE OF THE TITANS
« on: March 13, 2015, 05:23:31 PM »
As the subject states...scar 16/17 vs tavor. Which would be best in a doomsday situation, and why? Which is more reliable/easier to fix in the field? General discussion/soon to be debate about which platform is better :shaka: :shaka:
I sure as hell don't need a permit to choose my religion, so why the hell do I need a permit to acquire a firearm?

i would automatically eliminate the 17 in a SHTF situation
.308 is FAR less common than 5.56/.223

so it comes down to scar 16/tavor
i think the scar system has been tested more over time than tavor

my vote goes to scar 16

I agree with macsak I would choose the scar 16.accurate,reliable,but the tavor is also a good carbine and for me is easier to disassemble in the field.Scar 2-Tavor 0-

Never shot the Scar 16/17 but my trusty  "The Reaper" Tavor with Geissele trigger pack installed and lightning bow trigger on its way.  I off load 30 rds superfast and no hiccup, the target got blasted. However, Desert Tech MDR 556/308 is coming around the corner and might give them rubs.

Ack!! It's a trick! Don't answer it! It's the ole' Kobayashi Maru of all gun questions! Clearly the Scar wins because it's battle tested. No, wait; it's the Tavor because that's battle tested too.....Ahh to hell with the question. Carry the the Scar as your primary and the Tavor as your backup. On second thought, better to carry the Tavor as your primary and the Scar as your backup.

why not throw the ar15 platfiorm in the mix, battle tested, quick to disassemble, everybody has one.compared to the scar16 and tavor which is on the pricey side..

Having shot neither, id probably take the tavor for its shorter length.  Theyd both be more functional and accurate than i am so debating those qualities is silly in ny situation.

That's crazy talk. Why would you want a firearm that has had 50 years to work out the kinks and is the most popular rifle in the US so parts are always plentiful. Exotics are the way to go.  :shaka:

I actually own and have shot all 3.

All of them are excellent rifles.

To me, the "ideal" SHTF rifle would be the SCAR 17 because it's harder hitting, better range than the 5.56 rifles.

But you'd also have to consider in your "doomsday" scenario that you'd want to carry as much ammo as possible and also want to scavenge mags and ammo.

If you take those things into consideration, you'd want the SCAR 16 or Tavor because you could scavenge every AR mag.

Between the SCAR 16 & Tavor, the competition is stiff.

The 16 is just awesome, accurate, reliable and sexy.

The Tavor is all the above in a SBR size package.

Today, I'd take the Tavor, ask me tomorrow and it might be another answer.

Your number one Option for Personal Security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

I love my Hebrew Hammer and would take both the Tavor and Scar 16 over the 17 because of ammo.  I would then take the tavor over the Scar 16 for the same reason I bought it, a compact package (11 inches shorter than the scar 16) that is just as accurate.  They both run clean  and reliably and are both battle tested but IMO the Tavor is easier to disassemble and service.  Add the 9mm conversion kit to your SHTF scenario it's even more versatile.
"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."
