PIG Alpha Touch Gloves
« on: February 23, 2014, 11:32:31 AM »
I picked up the new PIG Alpha Touch gloves last week for the HDF range day and they feel great compared with my Mechanix Originals.  The one thing I noticed after the day, was that the silver stitching in the finger tips started to unravel and fray.  See photo. Has anyone else experienced this?  I'm a little disappointed that this is happening only after 2 hours of very mild shooting, especially considering the cost.  Aside from the fraying, the alpha touch feature worked just fine with my iPhone.  The feel is more snug than my Mechanix, but in a good way.

at last month's range day, we were discussing this
those threads are for the alpha touch, and the guys that had the feature all said theirs were doing that

Well, it is what it is then.  To me, it looks like a design issue, not a manufacturing one.  Other than that, I love the glove.  Maybe the frays can be burnt with a lighter.

Same with mine. The threads are already unraveling on the index finger of the right glove
I think, therefore I am armed.

i thought about melting them but theyre actual silver strands and it might not work as well as conventional thread.
i was going to wait til mine really started unraveling before i mess with it. please update us if you attempt a fix.

the glove itself seems to be somewhat delicate according to the internets. i guess you sacrifice durability for thin soft materials to increase dexterity and comfort. gloves are wear n tear but i wouldnt buy these particular ones again. id look for something with more suede leather and less material that frays. the backside of the glove is going to be all fuzzy after a few more uses and half the silver will be gone.

Yeah, I'll think about this more before attempting the lighter and if I do, I'll post a photo.  If I had to do it again, I'd buy it without the touch feature.

I have the regular version gloves and they are great. They also work fine on touchscreen electronics.

Come on, one day at the range and they come apart( the silver string portion)  Hell, it was more like 2 hours of shooting....

I'm picking all the unicorn pubis out, sprinkling it on a mound of dragon crap and sending it to SKD! :grrr:

My Pigs are holding up OK.
The Mechanics will hold up alot longer but are alot stiffer.  If you're OK with losing some finger dexterity,  get the Mechanics.  I view these as a great field glove and decent shooting glove.

If you want the dexterity and "feel" get the Pigs..... DONT get the Touch,  waste of money there. Pigs are more of a shooting glove and more delicate. Make sure you try on several sizes, they run a little big.

Gloves are  a consumable either way. I say try the Pigs.
