Lost permit replacement
« on: February 09, 2013, 06:01:42 PM »
Does anyone know how to get a lost handgun permit replaced? I'm talking about the piece of paper they give you when you register the handgun.  I'm also not sure if I even need to have it, but I'm guessing I would need it if I ever wanted to sell the gun.

You don't really need that.

I've lost dozens of them over the years.

Someday someone may kill you with your own gun, but they should have to beat you to death with it because it is empty.

Technically.....all it is an original copy of a specific firearm that has been registered with HPD.  It's not a permit per say.  The permit is the one that you submitted to HPD if you bought a pistol or the one that you are currently carrying for the purchase of a rifle/shotgun.  As for selling a firearm, it looks like you would have to fill out the back portion of the permit with the required info and then sign it.  I could be wrong though.  Back in the days, when purchasing a firearm, you weren't required to register your firearm with HPD thus......there's a bunch of firearms that HPD cannot account for.  I could be wrong, but thats what I heard.

Sorry resurrecting an old thread but need more advice. So, I lost my handgun registration ( the one HPD gives before finally bringing your new toy home ).Please advice on these questions, 1.Do you know if HPD will give me copy of the registration  and 2.Do you see any foreseen issue if I decide to sell the gun. Thanks in advance. :shaka:

When I went to apply for my CCW, they said I needed a copy of the registration for the handgun I wanted to carry...  I didn't have one, so they charged me a quarter to make a copy.  I gave them 50¢ and took a copy home with me, then made a bunch more copies...

You don't even need that registration paper.

The law requires you to register the pistol, not keep that paper.

You'll have no problem selling it.
