Cops fire 84 shots at robbery suspect, hit him once

The next time an anti-gun supporter tells you Cops are better trained to use guns in public areas, mention this!

Quote
A gun-toting Brooklyn bandit dodged more than 80 police bullets early Friday in a wild street shootout that
began with a botched armed robbery and ended with his arrest, officials said.

Oft-apprehended Jerrol Harris, 27, was busted around 1:10 a.m. when a single bullet — out of 84 fired at him
— pierced his calf to end a blocks-long police pursuit through Bushwick, cops said.

The running gun battle came to a head when Harris opened fire with a stolen .45-caliber pistol, discharging at
least six shots at two cops using their parked patrol car to cut off his escape route.

“He fired at them, and they fired back,” said NYPD Deputy Commissioner Stephen Davis. “That’s when he was hit.”

A witness said Harris collapsed in the street once he was finally wounded, with a black handgun and a small
pile of spent bullet shells alongside him.

The crippling gunshot came in the second of two firefights with cops while Harris was on the run after shooting
a Brooklyn man during a robbery try, police said.

NYPD is famous for their inability to hit the broad side of a barn, at 6 yards.

The real miracle is that, apparently, they didn't hit any innocent bystanders.

16 shots, 19 hits. (Counting ricochets and shrapnel)

Unfortunately 9 were innocent bystanders.

Hound, that appears to be a separate incident from years ago.

Yeah. It was the 2012 shooting in front of the Empire State building.

I was just rolling on the miracle no bystanders were hit.
Miracle in 84 shots they didn't hit a bystander.

We shouldn't forget the science side of things. Under extreme stress things don't work quite as well. Someone told me that cops are bad shots, they are aways missing, and that he could outshoot any cop at the range. My question to him was whether he could maintain such accuracy when someone was shooting back at him. Training is a must so as to reduce the amount of skill loss during a stressful situation but some loss is inevitable.

1 in 84 is pretty sad though.

The same thing with the Maui recent MPD shooting and HPD in Palolo Valley back in the mid 1990's.   IIRC, the deceased suspect was charging 3 cops with knives in both hands.  He was pretty close and if the officers hesitated maybe one would also have died.  3 officers shot over 40-45 rounds.
That's why sometimes I think that police officers of anyone, SHOULD provide the most justification for over 10 rds. in pistol magazines for personal safety.
I believe that adrenaline and the stress creates the missed shots.   But surprising with reports of a 80 y.o granny or grandpa stopping a charging invader with 1 or 2 rounds from a .38 revolver.

I'm glad that the red pants worn by the police helped them keep an eye on the suspect!
