This is a somewhat Orwellian event much suited to leftist attempts to "otherise" firearms owners in the culture war. The rifles haven't changed, the original definition of an "assault rifle" hasn't changed (having full auto/burst capability), and the lies and deception by the  totalitarian civilian disarmament advocates haven't changed. They just got a dictionary to go along with their ongoing deception and lies.
It's a really sad commentary on our times that this I've had to use this quote at least three times in the past couple of months:
‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.’
Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Changes Definition Of ‘Assault Rifle’ To One That Matches Gun Control Pushershttp://thefederalist.com/2018/03/31/merriam-webster-online-dictionary-changes-definition-assault-rifle/Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary changed its definition of “assault rifle” to one that matches what gun control advocates are pushing for.
The entry for “assault rifle,” which says it was last updated on March 31, 2018, reads as follows:
noun: any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire;
also : a rifle that
resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

Who wants to start the list of things that "resemble" something else, that are now defined as that thing?
