Dictionary New Definition Of ‘Assault Rifle’ Matches Gun Control Pushers (Read 4780 times)

This is a somewhat Orwellian event much suited to leftist attempts to "otherise" firearms owners in the culture war. The rifles haven't changed, the original definition of an "assault rifle" hasn't changed (having full auto/burst capability), and the lies and deception by the  totalitarian civilian disarmament advocates haven't changed. They just got a dictionary to go along with their ongoing deception and lies.

It's a really sad commentary on our times that this I've had to use this quote at least three times in the past couple of months:

‘When I use a word,’ Humpty Dumpty said, in a rather scornful tone, ‘it means just what I choose it to mean, neither more nor less.’

Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary Changes Definition Of ‘Assault Rifle’ To One That Matches Gun Control Pushers

Merriam-Webster’s online dictionary changed its definition of “assault rifle” to one that matches what gun control advocates are pushing for.

The entry for “assault rifle,” which says it was last updated on March 31, 2018, reads as follows:

noun: any of various intermediate-range, magazine-fed military rifles (such as the AK-47) that can be set for automatic or semiautomatic fire; also : a rifle that resembles a military assault rifle but is designed to allow only semiautomatic fire

Who wants to start the list of things that "resemble" something else, that are now defined as that thing?

Are you surprised that the definition changes.  Coming also from people who say there are more than 2 genders?

So what do we do now? If the dictionary is changing its definition to fit the narrative, how much longer before legislative and judicial systems start conforming to the definition?

I admit to being constrained and handicapped by the old school known as "logic" where "A"  ≠ "not A". I'm finding it's a real handicap in today's world. Doubt I'll ever be able to grow out of it... even if I wanted to, which i don't.

I'm afraid we're already part way down that slippery slope prior to any dictionary having confirmed it...

there will always be differences between the dictionary definition and the legal definition.  since the legal definition is often used to control/restrict ownership, it will require that any law or rule be very specific in describing the items falling within and without the legal definition.

People get too hung up on what the definition of an assault rifle is. The argument that an A.R. 15 is not an assault rifle is mute. The reason it’s an assault rifle is because it’s legally Bing defined as one in the legal definitions within the Law it’s being used for

The dictionary definition it’s been put out is made from that legal definition so the two become the same thing

The political jargon has already moved on to military-style weapon.

It was always the "style" that got them wound up.
Pistol grip
Flash hider
Barrel shroud (or whatever the hell they call it)
Collapsible stock ( got forbid my wife, kid and I comfortably shoot the same gun)

Shoulda bought a mini 14 when I had the chance.

It's ridiculous.

makes sense for liberals, leftists
They changed gender to the point where we are confused and they are confused amongst other things.

I saw someone (Mark Dice) commenting the other day that Facebook had increased the "gender" selection option for users from 2 to 58, but after numerous complaints that 58 was too limiting, they now just allow people to fill that in with anything they want. Apparently someone has claimed the gender "peanut butter", and Facebook let it stand.

Meanwhile they closed our joint FB account "Faith in God" because it wasn't one singular person's name and God was offensive to someone.

We just left it closed.

When we reported someone else for their crazy name we got this back.

Sorry,

Mine resembles the defensive rifles they use on guard duty.

AR-15 w/full-auto  & 30-rd magazine = PDW (Personal Defense Weapon)

It's the official term used by the government, so it must be accurate.  If an AR-15 with full-auto is not an assault weapon/assault rifle, then a semi-auto has to be exempt from that classification as well.
